A lot of people are excited for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League next year on HBO Max, but though we were all expecting it to be a film, there’s a chance that there could be a change in format.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max is still going heads or tails of what the final form of Zack Snyder’s Justice League should be and it’s a choice between a 4-hour movie or a 6-part miniseries.
For the sake of continuity, I would actually prefer a film. There’s no way that there’s going to be a bunch of DCEU miniseries in the future, and a movie would be more in uniform with the rest of Snyder’s DCEU entries. Then again, a miniseries could be easier to digest for audiences, and it could also give way for Snyder’s tendency to take time when he tells his stories.
If anything, there’s still a lot of work to be done on the film, and it’s possible they’ll come to that decision when everything is done. For now, it’s speculated that it would cost upwards of $20 million to finish the movie, and Snyder is teasing that it’s going to be ‘a whole new thing.’
As someone who can’t bring himself to watch Justice League a second time, I’m really excited to see what Snyder originally planned for this team-up. Though the films aren’t perfect, I love Snyder’s more mature take on superhero films. It’s just a shame that everyone wants things to feel like a Marvel movie these days.
Catch Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max sometime next year.
