Zack Snyder’s Justice League hasn’t even come out yet, but a lot of fans are already coming out online, asking for David Ayer’s original version of Suicide Squad. With a lot of hype being built around Jared Leto’s ‘real’ performance as Joker, Zack Snyder has gone out to show his support.

This is what he said on Vero when asked by a fan about his thoughts on Leto’s Mr. J:

Then again, he isn’t specific about what he liked about the character, so it’s possible he could just be talking about casting. Before Suicide Squad came out, a lot of people thought that Leto was actually an interesting choice for the Clown Prince of Crime, but after the film, everyone thought he was the worst part of the film. It also didn’t help that there were reports about him taking the role too far and harassing people on the set.

While a lot of people like to hate on Juggalo Joker, I thought the character had a lot of potential, and the performance was kind of torn apart when WB demanded that the film be lighter in tone. With Snyder being able to realize his vision with HBO Max, I really hope that Ayer is given a chance, seeing as he’s one of the first directors to be hit by WB’s studio meddling. Besides, if the Ayer Cut got released, fans won’t have anything to campaign for anymore when it comes to the DCEU—besides bringing Ben Affleck for Batman, or having him direct his own solo Batman movie.

No Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad has been announced, but Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to release on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
