Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action Gets a New Trailer from Netflix

The live-action One Piece managed to exceed expectations for Netflix when it came out earlier this year, and this month they’re gearing up for another adaptation of a popular shonen anime.

Check out the new trailer for Yu Yu Hakusho:

The Yu Yu Hakusho series was a manga from author Yoshihiro Togashi which originally ran from 1990 to 1994. An anime was then produced that ran from ’92 to ’94 with OVAs and films being released as well—the latest ones coming out back in 2018.

The story follows Yusuke, a delinquent teenager who is killed by a car accident while saving a young boy. He is then brought back to life to become a ‘ghost detective’, taking out all kinds of demons with his new special powers.  In the show, he’s accompanied by his friends who are also capable fighters, Kazuma Kuwabara, Hiei, and Youko Kurama. Not to mention all the different characters who populate the spirit world.

With the series being such a prominent property in the 90s, it’s unclear what kind of timeline the new show is going to be in. There have been some adaptations that have brought characters forward in time with the introduction of smartphones and whatnot, but it does feel like Yu Yu Hakusho is something that defined its era and should stay in that timeline.

Let’s just hope the live-action show is a great entry into the franchise, just like the live-action One Piece was for several viewers.

Yu Yu Hakusho premieres on Netflix on Dec. 14.
