Marvel’s What If…? series just ended, but another animated original is set to swing into Disney+ this January.
Your Friendly Neighboorhood Spider-Man is set to premiere next month, and Marvel has dropped a new look at Peter Parker’s early start as Spider-Man. Check this out:
Admittedly, there are some questions about what timeline Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man takes place in, and it’s been revealed that YFNS happens in an alternate timeline where Peter is mentored instead by Norman Osborn rather than Tony Stark. This is the series embracing the multiverse concept of What If, and will allow Peter to meet all new kinds of characters, even if the world roughly resembles the MCU.
I’ll admit, I was hoping for a more 2D look for the series, but I am a fan of how it does seem like they’re taking the aesthetics of the classic comics and bringing them into the modern world of the MCU. I know that there are people kind of pissed that Spider-Man is going to be a streamer in the series, but it definitely does track for what kids are up to these days and the kind of celebrities they tend to follow online.
Besides Peter, I am excited to see how this world is going to be different. Leaving Iron Man out does allow for a whole new origin story, and maybe it can resemble how the MCU plans to tackle these other characters eventually since the SUMC is officially dead.
Catch Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man when it comes to Disney+ on Jan.29, 2025.
