We thought the Toy Story franchise was officially ended with Toy Story 3 back in 2010, but it looks like Disney Pixar isn’t done with Woody and the gang’s story just yet. After almost a decade of waiting, we finally have our first teaser for Toy Story 4:
Here’s the official synopsis:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
This will be the first feature film for director Josh Cooley who had directed the Inside Out short Riley’s First Date?. We don’t really know what to expect from him at this point, but counting his long track record with Pixar, he may just be ready to join the ranks of directors like Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich.
As for Toy Story 4, this film had actually gone through a bit of a development snag with original writer Rashida Jones leaving after citing creative differences. Hopefully Pixar has a story that is fitting of the Toy Story prestige. After the seemingly high note that the franchise ended with, they better have a good reason to bring Toy Story back after so long.
If it’s any consolation, Tom Hanks said he got emotional recording his lines for Woody for this movie.
It’s something.
Toy Story 4 hits theaters June 21, 2019.
