Wonka: Timothee Chalamet is a Magical Chocolate Maker in Fantastical First Trailer

Fans may be excited to watch Timothee Chalamet lead the Fremen later this year in Dune: Part Two, but come Christmas he’ll be leading a group of Oompa Loompas in Wonka. The film is set to release in December, and WB has given us the first trailer for the upcoming prequel.

Watch the very first trailer for Wonka here:

The official description reads:

Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

Though Tim Burton did remake Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp, this film is considered to be a prequel to the 70s movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory which starred Gene Wilder. Not only does Chalamet’s Wonka have a similar costume with the top hat and purple coat, but we also get to see the return of the green-haired Oompa Loompas—played by Hugh Grant in the trailer.

A lot of fans were actually skeptical about the movie when it was first announced, but seeing as Paul King has managed to gain so much hype behind his Paddington movies, it seems that Wonka could be an interesting return of the character to the big screen. Let’s just hope that Chalamet manages to pull this performance off.

Catch Wonka when it comes to cinemas this holiday season on Dec. 15.
