Wonder Woman is hands down the only ‘success’ that the DCEU has had in the box office, and now fans are eager to see what’s in store for Diana in Wonder Woman 2. Director Patty Jenkins has just confirmed the identity of a new cast member, and it’s no one but former SNL member Kristen Wiig!
Check out Jenkins’ official announcement:
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot pic.twitter.com/Gn0jICiIAH

With Wiig trying her hand in more serious roles in films like mother! and The Martian, I don’t know what direction she’s going to take Cheetah in the sequel. Sure I would love for the character to be funny, but I think we need to find a balance between a serious threat and silly comic relief. After all, we don’t want this to turn out like a Marvel movie.
With the working title being Magic Hour, a lot of people are guessing that the main villain is going to be the witch Circe. Seeing that Circe has a penchant for turning people into animals, having Cheetah as one of her lackeys certainly fits the bill. Of course, Cheetah could also be the main villain, but I always imagined her as more of an immediate threat as compared a more calculated villain.
Wiig is certainly a great addition to the cast, but we’ll just have to see how Patty Jenkins follows up to the ridiculous success of Wonder Woman. Fingers crossed Zatanna gets introduced in the film.
Wonder Woman 2 comes out Nov. 1, 2019.
