Everyone was already shocked when it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. would be in Avengers: Doomsday as a completely new character, and more news just came out that Chris Evans (Captain America) is also set to make a comeback in the next Avengers film. Now another OG Avenger is set to be returning—could this be a reunion movie after all?
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie), Scarlett Johansson is set to reprise her part as Black Widow in Avengers: Doomsday. So far, nothing official has been confirmed, but Johansson joining along with RDJ and Evans further fuels the theory that Doom will be working with a variant team of Avengers who are actually ‘evil’ this time around.
So far, Avengers characters who aren’t dead or dying like Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) were expected to make an appearance, but some think it’s possible they could also be part of this Doctor Doom super team that the New Avengers will have to deal with.
Honestly, I was up for a clash with Kang with the next Avengers film, and I think that the bringing back of the Russo Brothers and RDJ feels like another Rise of Skywalker situation happening over at Marvel. If they’re pushing forward with it though, all fans can do is hope that the Russos have a dynamite idea, and this would set everything up properly for Secret Wars to be the next big thing.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in theatres on May 1, 2026.
