The Mandalorian has managed to nab some great talent over the years from Taika Waititi to Lizzo, and with the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, one cast member has been announced from a prestige television show—but what’s weirder is the character that he’s apparently playing. It seems like he’s going to be Jabba the Hutt’s son.
As reported by The InSneider before the other trade sources confirmed it, Jeremy Allen White of The Bear fame is going to be voicing none other than Rotta the Hutt a.k.a. Jabba the Hutt’s son. The character had appeared as a baby in The Clone Wars movie, and was even nicknamed ‘Stinky’ by young padawan Ahsoka Tano.
For the movie though, Rotta is expected to be quite grown, and rumor even has it that he’s not going to be a traditional Hutt in the movie. This time, he’s going to be a fit Hutt, and it’s very likely that he speaks plain English (like other Hutts in The Clone Wars). We don’t know how he’s going to factor into the plot as Jabba the Hutt’s son, but it’s very likely that he will want his father’s territory back after it got usurped by Bib Fortuna, then was taken by force by Boba Fett in The Book of Boba Fett.
While Hutts are known to be sluggish and sly, there have been Hutts in the Legends that are also known to be fit, and they kind of resemble giant snakes with arms. Should Rotta be a villain, it’s possible he could be formidable fighter, but seeing he has history with Ahsoka, maybe he’s kept in touch with her after all these years.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to come to theatres on May 22, 2026.
