Bruce Timm is one of the chief architects when it comes to Batman: The Animated Series (and the rest of the DCEU), and now he’s teamed up with Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams to deliver the latest take on Batman.
Check out the trailer for the first season of Batman: Caped Crusader:
The official description reads:
Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.
The series essentially takes Batman and his rogues back to the 50s, and we can see the depiction of Batman closer to his debut look in the first comic from Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
What’s interesting is, some villains that haven’t been created around that time—like Harley Quinn—have been given the period treatment, and the show promises to give us these new versions of the characters that were supposed to exist around that time period.
It’s a pretty interesting pitch when it comes to Batman, and a chance to see how they would revamp the characters for a period setting.
Hamish Linklater will voice the part of Batman, and other cast members include Christina Ricci (Catwoman), Jamie Chung (Harley Quinn), and Diedrich Bader (Harvery Dent/Two-Face). Other cast members include McKenna Grace, Haley Joel Osment, John DiMaggio, and Paul Scheer.
