With Oppenheimer proving that 3-hour-long dramas can still make bank at the box office, more and more cinephiles are getting confident that Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon is going to tear it up in theaters.
The film is set to come out this October, and we have a new trailer that gives us better context of the entire plot. Watch this:
While earlier trailers have been pretty general about the premise of the story for Killers of the Flower Moon, the latest preview does give us a better idea of where the characters are and their relationships with each other. At some point, even I was speculating that De Niro was playing an older version of DiCaprio’s character; now it’s cleared up that De Niro is actually one of the people who were seeking to exploit the natives, with DiCaprio’s Ernest Burkhart finding himself in the middle of the conflict.
Here’s the official description:
At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder.
For any Scorsese fan, it does look like the movie brings together all of the things he loves; from DiCaprio and gangsters to period dramas with excessive human suffering. We don’t know if it will make Oppenheimer numbers, but you can bet it will be one of the most critically anticipated films of the year.
Killers of the Flower Moon is set to come to theaters on Oct. 20.
