Junji Ito fans have waited five years for the release of Uzumaki, and when the series finally premiered, there was a lot of praise going for the show online, what with the amazing animation bringing Junji Ito’s pages to life.
However, fans were met with a sudden sharp turn when a week later, Episode 2 comes out, and there was a very noticeable drop in animation quality:
WHAT THE…
What happened to Uzumaki? I've waited 5 years for this and the animation quality already dropped in the 2nd episode.
I am having Ninja Kamui (Adult Swim) flashbacks ohmygod..
The only saving grace this episode is Colin Stetson's amazing music as usual. pic.twitter.com/qKck9lh3sJ

Fans are wondering what this means for the rest of the series, and executive producer Jason Demarco has come out explaining what he could as to what happened with the show. Here’s his post:

The post didn’t make it clear whose fault it was exactly, but some suggest that the chaos may have happened all the way over at the Japanese side of the production. The quote from DeMarco reads, “I can’t tell them who to blame it on… but someone is definitely at fault here, and we all just had to do our best when things imploded.”
With only four episodes planned for the entire season of the show, everyone is wondering how bad the rest of the series is going to be. If anything, not all the animation is terrible in quality, and there are still some great shots that managed to make it to the episode.
Plus, the music is always a great standout, and matches very well with the visuals that Ito put in his manga. Maybe you can just play the soundtrack over yourself reading the manga for a real immersive experience?
Catch Uzumaki on Max and Adult Swim.
