New Teaser for Junji Ito’s Uzumaki Anime Shows Off Stellar Animation

When Toonami first revealed they were making an anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki, it was said that the series was going to come out in 2020, but the show had been delayed several times to 2021, and then 2022. The year is now 2023, and while we have no release date, Toonami has revealed a new look at the show, and the animation looks fantastic.

Watch the teaser for Uzumaki down here:

We don’t know the specific reason as to why the 4-episode series has been delayed, but it was said to have something to do with the quality of the work. According to Anime News Network, the show had announced that the delay was due to the staff needing more time to replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work” of the original manga.

Even before release, rumors were swirling around that the animation was just going to be the original manga panels slightly animated (like with Way of the Househusband), but with a property like Uzumaki which is considered to be one of Ito’s greatest works, fans really wanted the animation to match the quality of the comic.

It’s been a long wait, but based on what we see in the first look, the series is going to look amazing.

With Netflix’s Junji Ito series not really wowing audiences as expected, the bar has kind of been lowered for Uzumaki to succeed, but hopefully we get something unforgettable when it comes out.

No release date has been announced for Adult Swim’s Uzumaki, but fingers crossed the series finally comes out this year.
