One of Ubisoft’s most successful franchises was Prince of Persia, and Sands of Time was one of the best games to come out in 2003. While Assassin’s Creed has basically become the spiritual successor of PoP, Ubisoft has officially announced a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Check it out:
Here’s the official description:
Amidst the scorched sands of ancient Persia, there is a legend spun in an ancient tongue. It speaks of a time borne of blood and ruled by deceit. Drawn to the dark powers of a magic dagger, a young Prince is led to unleash a deadly evil upon a beautiful kingdom.
Besides the updated graphics, there’s also a chance for players to unlock the original Prince of Persia game from 1989, and you can access it on the main menu whenever you please.
Admittedly, not too many people are impressed with this trailer, and some think that the graphics are only good for a game that came out in 2010. I guess with the full remakes of games like Final Fantasy VII, there’s now a gold standard when it comes to these remasters.
If anything, I’m sure some fans are just happy to play the exact same game modified for current gen consoles so it won’t be too jarring to look at. Hopefully if this re-release succeeds, we could be seeing a full-on reboot down the line.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is set to come out on Jan. 21, 2021.
