Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Casts Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal

After more than a decade of Transformers movies, Paramount is now ready to adapt Beast Wars with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. While we already have cast members in the form of Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, we now have news on who will play the leader of the Maximals, Optimus Primal.

According to Collider, Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) will be providing the voice of the Optimus Primal, with Peter Cullen reprising his part of Optimus Prime. While some are disappointed that the film isn’t bringing back Garry Chalk from the original cartoon, Perlman did play the part of Primal in the animated Transformers: Power of the Primes.

With Bumblebee essentially rebooting the Transformers timeline, it’s going to be interesting to see where the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons fit into this movie universe. While they are essentially descendants of Autobots and Decepticons, their origins are very ‘prehistoric’ in nature, with this generation of Transformers taking on animal forms after crash landing on a mysterious planet via a time/space phenomenon.

Maybe the upcoming War for Cybertron: Kingdom will give us a hint as to the upcoming story, but even then we don’t expect Rise of the Beasts follow that formula.

Like the original Transformers, Beast Wars also has its share of fan-favorite characters, and it’s going to be interesting to see who else is going to appear in the upcoming film. Besides Primal, it’s possible we’ll get a lot of the main cast including Cheetor, Rattrap, Rhinox, and the dinosaur version of Megatron.

Catch Transformers: Rise of the Beasts when it hits theaters on June 24, 2022.
