The movie is set to release in the summer of next year, and Universal Pictures just dropped their first teaser for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon. Check this out:

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

If you’ve watched the original film, you’ll know that the live-action film takes a lot of visual cues from the animation. The dragon pit pretty much looks the same, as well as Hiccup’s moment with Toothless where the dragon lets him touch its nose.

With the original movie already being a spectacle by itself though, I’m curious if the live-action film has anything new to bring to the table. Sure a lot of the dragons look more detailed, but is there anything new to bring to the table storywise?

Maybe they can set-up characters like Hiccup’s mother and other franchise villains earlier, but I’m really hoping they go a different direction with the third film because that honestly could have been brushed up more storywise.

Dragons will soar in theatres when How to Train Your Dragon comes to cinemas on June 13.

The Children Yearn for the Mines in Official Trailer for A Minecraft Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/mines-in-official-trailer-for-a-minecraft-movie/ Wed, 20 Nov 2024 03:21:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85294 Hollywood continues to chase that video game adaptation golden goose, and next year WB Pictures will be giving fans A Minecraft Movie. Just in a new trailer has been dropped, and it features all the spectacle expected from a big budget video game flick.

Check this out:

Though it does sound pretty ridiculous that Steve would be a child who was willing to go into mines, this was actually a reference to a 2022 meme satirizing the abolition of child labour as Minecraft proved that ‘The children yearn for the mines.’

Besides that, the movie does have a lot of Easter Eggs which only actual Minecraft players would be able to spot out like the different characters that you can meet in the Overworld and even the Crafting Table where Steve creates weapons.

I do have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the hyper-realistic look for a lot of the Overworld. I would have loved it if they just stuck to the low-poly textures that were signature to a game like Minecraft.

Here’s the official description for the film:

Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

Catch A Minecraft Movie when it comes to cinemas on April 4, 2025.

WATCH: Sneak Peek for the Final Act of Arcane https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-sneak-peek-for-the-final-act-of-arcane/ Tue, 19 Nov 2024 23:55:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85306 Arcane is set to end after two seasons, but two acts into Season 2, and animators Fortiche have been knocking it out of the park every episode.

The story is set to close with Act 3 this weekend, and we have a sneak peek for the big closer of the series. Check this out:

The Act 2 finale ended with a huge cliffhanger, but it does look like a lot of things are going to be picked up immediately. For one, even thought Jayce seemingly killed Viktor, it looks like he’s still figuring out how the ‘Machine Herald’ fit into all this arcane chaos. It also looks like Vi is once again trying to convince Jinx to come to her side; and fans expect Jinx to be at a new low especially since she lost her only family left, Isha.

The second act was completely devoid of Heimerdinger and Ekko, so fans are expecting them to reappear immediately with the start of Act 3. Some fans are even convinced that after Ekko’s experience with the arcane, it’s possible that he comes back with time-travelling powers, and he could use them to stop the murder of Viktor and hopefully the death of Isha.

Though it’s sad to think an amazing show is ending, Riot is looking to tell more stories in Runeterra outside of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun. They can move forward and back with the timeline, but for now it looks like they’re closing the book with this era of characters.

Act 3 of Arcane Season 2 comes out on Netflix Nov. 23.

Ben Stiller has to Wrangle some Wild Kids in Trailer for Nutcrackers https://www.geekfeed.com/ben-stiller-in-trailer-for-nutcrackers/ Sun, 17 Nov 2024 07:25:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85227 Ben Stiller has mostly been behind the camera lately with series like Severance, but he’s actually going back for some family-friendly comedy with Hulu’s upcoming Nutcrackers.

The movie is set to come out by the end of the month, and we have the first trailer. Check this out:

Here’s the summary for the film:

In the most unlikely of places, four siblings find a loving shelter in an unexpected turn of circumstances. This endearing comedy-drama draws inspiration from actual events and deftly crafts a gripping story that unites everyone.

It’s been a while since Stiller has starred in a screwball comedy, but that was basically his genre with films like Meet the Parents and Zoolander. Though Nutcrackers does look like his old brand of film, it does feel like the movie is going to have that very emotional center—what with Stiller’s character obviously not wanting anything to do with kids, but is somehow forced into parenting four strange children.

With Stiller being so focused on directing lately, I’ll admit I was kind of missing him in front of the camera. While I do love his artsy films with Noah Baumbach, classic comedy Stiller is still fun to watch, and he plays the neurotic weirdo who does slapstick so well even after all these years.

Hopefully Nutcrackers becomes must-see holiday movie this year, because things have honestly started looking pretty bleak as January draws nearer.

Catch Nutcrackers when it premieres on Hulu on Nov. 29.

The Final Season of Beastars Gets Its First Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/beastars-final-season-gets-its-first-trailer/ Fri, 08 Nov 2024 11:03:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85122 Disney is said to be working on a new Zootopia property, but until that happens, Netflix’s Beastars will just have to do. The anime is set to come out with its final season, and we just got a new trailer.

Here’s the official description:

It is a world where carnivores and herbivores coexist.

Following the battle with the culprit who devoured his classmate at school, Legoshi decides to drop out and begins living alone at Beast Apartments. Louis has entered a prestigious university and resolves to face his father, Ogma. Haru also deals with many struggles as she tries to enjoy campus life.

Meanwhile, the city sees an increase of devouring incidents. The fangs of the heinous criminal who is pulling all the strings begin to close in on Legoshi and the others …

Beastars is admittedly a very odd property, and probably the simplest way to describe it is that it’s a mesh of the world of Zootopia with all the drama of Twilight. Sure there are still divisions between predator and prey species, but now there’s a forbidden romance with Legoshi the Wolf and Haru the Rabbit—and it’s this dangerous paring that is one of the driving forces behind the show.

Admittedly, there wasn’t as much Legoshi/Haru moments last season, but based on the trailer, it looks like Legoshi is going to keep at his pacifist training, and there could be more scandalous relationships down the line.

The final season of Beastars premieres on Dec. 5 on Netflix.

The End: Neon Drops Trailer for Apocalyptic Musical Starring Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, and Moses Ingram https://www.geekfeed.com/the-end-trailer-for-apocalyptic-musical/ Wed, 06 Nov 2024 18:36:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85092 Movies like Wonka and Wicked seem to be very sparing when it comes to promoting the musical elements of their films, but this new movie from Neon called The End promises a very artsy one and isn’t shy to reveal that, yes, the actors will sing in this one.

Check out the first trailer starring Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Michael Shannon, and Moses Ingram:

The official description reads:

From Academy Award®-nominated director Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing, The Look of Silence) comes a poignant and deeply human musical about a family that survived the end of the world.

Though there have been multiple films about families/survivors at the End of the World, The End does have a very interesting twist in that it’s a musical—like if Snowpiercer had more singing and dancing in it. Funnily enough, that movie also has Tilda Swinton in the cast.

Though a lot of the shots do look artsy, it does seem that this will be a more literal story as compared to more abstract fare like Joker: Folie a Deux.

As someone who actually enjoys musicals, I think this is a pretty neat concept, and it’s just the kind of experimental film that we need to see more of in theaters. I’m sure this would have just been swept under the rug if they planned to release this straight to streaming.

Watch out for The End when it comes to cinemas on Dec. 6.

Trailer for Waltzing with Brando with Billy Zane Feels Like the First Fyre Festival https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-waltzing-with-brando-with-billy-zane-feels-like-the-first-fyre-festival/ Tue, 05 Nov 2024 19:49:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85081 It was kind of surreal when the first photos of Billy Zane as Marlon Brando came out online, and now we have our first trailer for Waltzing with Brando which looks to tell the story of Brando when he tried to purchase an island and run a hotel his way.

Check this out:

Here’s the description of the film:

Movie star Marlon Brando (Billy Zane) recruits a Los Angeles architect (Jon Heder) to build the world’s first ecologically perfect retreat on a small, uninhabited island in Tahiti.

Though Brando is considered to be one of the greatest actors of his generation, admittedly there have been a lot of stories about him behind-the-scenes where he has the most peculiar behavior. Almost every movie he’s been in has some story of Brando doing something to freak out the crew—but despite all of that mess, he’s still considered a master of his craft and a definitive movie star.

Some may think this is a biopic, but it does look like it’s going to focus on a very specific part in Brando’s life which admittedly sounds pretty bonkers. We don’t know how much of the story is true, but Brando expecting to power a beautiful island with electric eels feels like something he definitely would have done, what with his ridiculous wealth and fame.

I have to say, it’s nice to see Jon Heder back onscreen. He’s kind of been on the low ever since Blades of Glory, but this could be a great comeback for him.

Waltzing with Brando is set to come out in theaters on Nov. 30.

The Games are Back in Trailer for Squid Game Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/games-are-back-in-trailer-for-squid-game-season-2/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 21:22:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85030 Fans thought that the first season of Squid Game was already a well-contained story, but with the series becoming a massive success for Netflix, a second season was inevitable. Squid Game 2 is set to release this December, and we just got a new teaser for Halloween.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the second season:

Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the states and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.

We never really knew how Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) planned to take down the games after he won, but it does look like he’s just going to join as a regular participant and try to convince everyone to stop playing the games by confirming that he’s a previous winner.

Admittedly, it doesn’t seem like the smartest plan on Gi-hun’s part, but maybe there’s some kind of mind game that he’s playing with the game masters; and him looking desperate was just part of his plan.

I’ll have to say I was one of the more sceptical people when a second season was announced, but it does seem that director Hwang Dong-hyuk had something planned for a follow-up. Let’s just hope that the series manages to captivate audiences just as much as the first one did.

Watch out for Squid Game 2 when it comes to Netflix on Dec. 26.

Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga Star in Sweethearts Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/sweethearts-trailer-shipka-and-hiraga/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 21:12:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85019 Who says the rom-com genre is dead? Just in, HBO has dropped a new trailer for Sweethearts, an incoming romantic comedy about two college friends who make a pact to break-up with their high school sweethearts.

Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga star in Sweethearts:

Here’s the synopsis for the movie:

Two college freshmen pull a “Turkey Dump” and break up with their high school sweethearts over “Drunksgiving” – the one chaotic night before Thanksgiving in their hometown that puts their codependent friendship to the test.

Shipka is no doubt the bigger star in this film, having been the lead in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but I do have to say Hiraga was pretty memorable in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart where he played one of the ‘cool kids’.

Like any rom-com, the movie also has appearances from some great comic talent. Stavros Halkias may not be the biggest comedian now, but he’s steadily showing up in more places. The movie also features Tramell Tillman who pretty much stole the scene as Milchick in Apple TV+’s Severance.

It’s also worth noting that the movie is being directed by Jordan Weiss, the creator of the series Dollface which starred Kat Dennings and Brenda Song.

It’s a pretty interesting premise, and based on the trailer, this does look to be a more artsy rom-com as compared to what Netflix usually pumps out. At best it’s a funnier Euphoria, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Catch Sweethearts when it releases on Max on Nov. 28.

Marvel Gives Look at Incoming Shows Like Daredevil, Ironheart, Wonder Man, and More https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-gives-look-at-incoming-shows/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 20:54:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85015 The Marvel Studios well has admittedly been pretty dry this year, but it looks like they’re going to be gearing up for a lot of releases next year—specifically on Disney+.

Just in, we have a look ahead at all the incoming Marvel series of 2025 including Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Wonder Man, and more. Check this out:

The timeline of releases is as follows:

Deadpool and Wolverine (Nov. 12)

What If…? Season 3 (Dec. 22)

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Jan. 29, 2025)

Daredevil: Born Again (March 4, 2025)

Ironheart (June 24, 2025)

Eyes of Wakanda (Aug. 6, 2025)

Marvel Zombies (October 2025)

Wonder Man (December 2025).

On the movie side of things, Marvel fans are expecting three movies to release next year—Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14, 2025), Thunderbolts* (May 2, 2025), and Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025).

Admittedly, the slate looks pretty full, which is different from what fans were expecting, with the studio said to be slowing down moving forward. Then again, with Marvel hanging back on releases this year, this could be a result of them coming back up—then again, all of these projects have been on hold for quite a while since they were initially announced. It’s great that they’re finally releasing.

Personally, I’m in the camp that thinks that Marvel is in a bit of a slump, and I don’t think that leaning in on nostalgia is going to make the studio any better—despite the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. At least there are some newer projects covering more obscure characters to look forward to.

I still am holding out for second seasons of She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel though.

New Look at Moana 2 Teases the New Songs https://www.geekfeed.com/new-look-at-moana-2-teases-the-new-songs/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 17:12:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84954 We know a live-action version is coming, but Disney is pushing forward with the theatrical release of Moana 2. With the first movie having some great tracks, the second one also promises to deliver some new songs; and while they haven’t been officially released a new preview gives us a tease for what to expect.

Check this out:

The movie promises 8 new original songs for the Moana sequel, but the preview only gives us a tease at one power ballad titled Beyond. This time around, the music will be provided by songwriter duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (Barlow and Bear) who had won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for their work on The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical.

To compare, the first movie’s music was provided by Lin-Manuel Miranda, along with Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’I, who are also attached to this movie.

Though we know that Moana gets her own song, it’s possible that we’re also going to get some new tracks for Maui, and the rest of the people from Moana’s village. Of course, there’s also the obligatory villain song (for new character Matangi). This time around, Moana also has her own crew to help her on the boat, so maybe they get a song as well—a classic sea shanty, if you will.

There’s honestly a lot of pessimism with the Disney movie since it was originally planned as a series then retooled into a film; and the lack of marketing is kind of telling—but hopefully the film will be completed fully by the time we get to the end of November.

Catch Moana 2 when it comes out in theatres on Nov. 27.

Ke Huy Quan is His Own John Wick in Trailer for Love Hurts https://www.geekfeed.com/ke-huy-quan-in-trailer-for-love-hurts/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 06:05:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84916 Ever since the release of Everything Everywhere All at Once, it seems that Hollywood veteran Ke Huy Quan is finally getting the recognition he deserves. After some small supporting roles with Disney, he’s now ready to be the lead.

Check him out in this first trailer for Universal’s Love Hurts:

Here’s the description for the movie:

Ke Huy Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb Raider, Warcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.

With Quan playing a former hitman who is just trying to live his life in peace before his past comes back to haunt him—it really does seem like Love Hurts is just another John Wick-type property, and it probably is. After all, it’s also being produced by David Leitch who produced the John Wick movies. The movie is also being directed by longtime stunt coordinator JoJo Eusebio, who has also worked on movies like Black Panther, The Avengers, Deadpool 2, and—surprise, surprise—John Wick.

Quan himself has also had a history with action filmmaking, so it’s great that he’s able to show off his skills in this film. Though he may be best known for his child acting days in films like Indiana Jones 2 and The Goonies, it’s great to see him actually take on action roles—while at the same time embracing his cutesy wimp onscreen persona.

Catch Love Hurts when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 7.

Adam Scott is Trapped Once More In Teaser for Severance Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/adam-scott-in-teaser-for-severance-season-2/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 14:52:04 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84912 Innies and Outies were just nipple types before the release of Severance on Apple TV+, and now they represent two different kinds of people in this captivating sci-fi world.

The first season had released back in 2022, and now Adam Scott’s Mark is back for the second season—and things still look as trapped as ever. Check out the first teaser:

Here’s the official description for the series:

In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.

In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.

Besides Scott, the second season promises to bring back everyone from the first including Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, and Patricia Arquette. Even John Turturro and Christopher Walken are expected to come back.

We don’t know exactly where we are in the story when the season starts, but it does look like it will take place after Mark and his co-workers have managed to switch consciousnesses with their ‘Outies’. We don’t know how long they were able to pull that off or what they were able to accomplish by pulling it off, but it’s possible that Lumon will want Mark to be separated from his co-conspirators and assigned a new team.

I’ll admit, the concept of the series is pretty great, but the show kind of ends with multiple loose threads that don’t feel like a satisfying end. Hopefully Stiller and the rest of the writing crew fix that problem with the second season because fans are already wise to the use of cliffhangers for cheap thrills. I’m just hoping for more MDEs.

Severance Season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ on Jan. 17, 2025.

Adrien Brody Stars in First Trailer for A24’s The Brutalist https://www.geekfeed.com/adrien-brody-in-first-trailer-for-the-brutalist/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 09:38:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84894 Adrien Brody may have been giving more time to TV series lately with Winning Time and Poker Face, but he’s set to star in a feature film this year with The Brutalist.

The movie directed by Brady Corbet has premiered at the Venice International Film Festival this year and is set to have a wide release in December, and we have our first trailer. Check this out:

Here’s the movie synopsis for The Brutalist:

When visionary architect László Toth and his wife Erzsébet flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client.

It’s interesting that Brody should be cast in the lead role of a holocaust survivor since one of his more famous roles was also that of a holocaust survivor in The Pianist. What’s more, his pianist character was also a master of his craft, and now it looks like he’s trading out music for architecture for this movie.

Just based on the visuals in the trailer, it does look like The Brutalist is going to be aiming to show off some stunning architecture. After all, Brutalism is a type of architecture that was popularized in the 50s and made use of exposed concrete and steel. There was also an emphasis on simple shapes, which lead to some very retro-futuristic designs; albeit the movement was criticized for being too monochrome and lifeless as time went on.

Hopefully we get a better look at the A24 film in the next few weeks.

The Brutalist is set to hit theaters on Dec. 20.

First Official Trailer for James Gunn’s Creature Commandos https://www.geekfeed.com/first-official-trailer-for-creature-commandos/ Tue, 22 Oct 2024 09:49:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84862 James Gunn may not be returning for a Suicide Squad movie anytime soon, but he does have something adjacent to that property with Creature Commandos.

The animated series is set to premiere this December, and we have our first trailer featuring Rick Flagg Sr., the Bride, Dr. Phosphorus, Weasel, Nina Mazursky, and G.I. Robot. Check it:

Admittedly, it does feel like the lineup is pretty much like the misfits of Task Force X, but the difference with Creature Commandos is that every member isn’t considered a human.

It’s unclear what exactly the format of the series is yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more episodic this time around, with only small reveals for each character’s backstory with every episode. Though I would like one tight, connected narrative, I think that would just make the series feel more like Suicide Squad before it.

Having the team in different adventures every episode could offer a different feel for the property; plus it opens up the show for more creative storytelling. At least, that’s my opinion. I’m also willing to just wait and see what Gunn has in store for the show.

With Gunn taking over a wholesome property like Superman, it does seem like Creature Commandos is more of his violent, comedy wheelhouse. Then again, this looks to be the first major animated project with Gunn, so we’ll have to see just how it’s different from what he’s delivered before.

Catch Creature Commandos when it premieres on Max this coming Dec. 5.

The Electric State Trailer: The Russo Brothers Team-Up with Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt for Sci-Fi Film https://www.geekfeed.com/the-electric-state-trailer-brown-and-pratt/ Sun, 20 Oct 2024 04:29:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84841 The Russo Brothers are currently gearing up for the start of production for Avengers: Doomsday, but the two have a project incoming for Netflix called The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.

The movie is set to come out in March, and Netflix has just dropped a first teaser. Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

Set in the aftermath of a robot uprising in an alternate version of the ’90s, The Electric State follows an orphaned teenager who ventures across the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler, and his sidekick in search of her younger brother.

Besides Brown and Pratt, the film has managed to amass a number of stars with the likes of Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Jenny Slate, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Though the Russos were at the helm for one of the most successful movies of all time, a lot of people have been saying that they haven’t managed to find a hit after Avengers: Endgame. With their non-MCU projects not really making any waves, some think that Doomsday was kind of a Hail Mary for the directing duo—as well as Robert Downey Jr.

If anything, Electric State does have the premise of what could be a successful action-adventure movie, but time will tell if it’s going to be a hit. Sure, the imagery of robots that look like old-timey cartoons is unique, but the movie still looks as drab and grey as any other MCU flick.

Is it too late to color-correct the film?

Watch out for The Electric State when it comes to Netflix on March 14, 2025.

A24 Crosses E.T. and Gremlins in New Trailer for The Legend of Ochi https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-the-legend-of-ochi-released/ Thu, 17 Oct 2024 10:33:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84811 Audiences were pretty clear on what kind of movies A24 would deliver, but the studio has since been expanding to accommodate different genres—like this year’s Civil War from Alex Garland. Now they want to move into magic-realism/kid-friendly territory, and they’ve dropped the first trailer for The Legend of Ochi starring Isaiah Saxon, Finn Wolfhard, Willem Dafoe, and Emily Watson.

Check the new trailer for The Legend of Ochi right here:

This looks to be the feature-length movie debut of director Isaiah Saxon, who does seem to have a penchant for colourful fantasy creatures.

Storywise, it does look like the usual fantasy trope of ‘a child saving a weird creature that the adults have told her all her life was dangerous’ which we’ve seen in a few films already like E.T., Pete’s Dragon, and Iron Giant. TV Tropes actually calls this trope “Humans are the Real Monsters”.

Though the trope has been seen time and again, the A24 branding does come with the promise of sweeping visuals and overall artsy vibe—which is pretty much showcased in the trailer.

Plus, it looks like The Legend of Ochi is supposed to be in a modern setting, but Willem Dafoe is running around in fantasy armor, so that should make for a very interesting story.

I also think it’s fascinating that Finn Wolfhard should be cast in the film, since his big break, Stranger Things was also considered to be a pseudo-remake of E.T.—only Wolfhard’s E.T. was a stranger girl named Eleven played by Millie Bobby Brown.

The Legend of Ochi is expected to hit theatres on March 27, 2025.

‘Come Play’ In Latest Trailer for Arcane Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/come-play-in-latest-trailer-for-arcane-season-2/ Thu, 17 Oct 2024 10:26:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84803 Arcane completely swept everyone off their feet when it came out back in 2021, and now Riot Games is set to close the arc of Jinx and Vi with the second season of the series.

The show is set to premiere this November and be split into three parts, and we have a new trailer featuring clips from the upcoming series as well as the first season. Check this out:

With the first season ramping up to a war between the citizens of Piltover and Zaun, it looks like everything is going to go to shit with the second season; with Vi joining Caitlyn fighting for Piltover, and Jinx becoming the unwitting leader of the undercity (kind of like Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker).

Of course, there is also the case of Ekko and his band of rebels, but it’s not clear who his fight is going to be with. We know that he doesn’t really care for Jinx or the gangs of Zaun, but there’s also the case of Ambessa who looks to be out for blood for the death of Mel, and she’s going to be bringing along her armies from Noxus (i.e., this world’s version of Sparta).

Though it is sad to think that Season 2 will be the end of Arcane, Riot has said that more shows are being developed based on the world of League of Legends. So this series will just close the arc for these specific characters. We should expect the lore to be expanded when the first Arcane spinoff comes around. Fingers crossed it will have the same story and animation quality.

Catch the second season of Arcane when Part I hits Netflix on Nov. 9.

Moana 2 Gathers a Crew in Special Look Video https://www.geekfeed.com/moana-2-gathers-a-crew-in-special-look-at-sequel/ Mon, 14 Oct 2024 09:33:04 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84689 Moana and Maui may have been their own crew of seafarers in the first movie, but now Moana is set to get a crew with the sequel, Moana 2.

The movie is set to hit theatres this November, and we have a new look at the film, and a better understanding of the story. Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis for the plot:

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

The trailer for Moana 2 also gives a look at new character Matangi (Awhimal Fraser) who doesn’t look to be a goddess like in the first film, but seems to be more than human. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was another demigod like Maui, but it would be cool if she was just like Moana and has a special connection with nature.

And though she never really got the focus in the first film, Moana’s sister Simea makes her formal introduction in this movie. We know she has a bond with Moana, but knowing Disney, it’s very likely Simea could be the lead of the next spinoff waiting to happen.

Admittedly, I don’t know how to feel about Moana 2, especially since there was news that this was originally planned as a series; but Disney has botched marketing in the past, and maybe Moana 2 could be worth checking out.

Catch it when it swims into theatres on Nov. 27.

Timothee Chalamet Trades Fremen for Hippies in Latest Look at Bob Dylan Biopic, A Complete Unknown https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-bob-dylan-biopic-a-complete-unknown/ Fri, 11 Oct 2024 11:23:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84678 The musical biopic trend continues to keep trudging along. After hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, and Elvis, Bob Dylan is the next figure to get his story told with A Complete Unknown.

The film is set to come to theatres this Christmas, and we have a new trailer with Timothee Chalamet playing the part of one of music’s most influential songwriters. Check this out:

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician BOB DYLAN’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Admittedly, this isn’t the first attempt at a Bob Dylan biopic. Way back in 2007, Todd Haynes directed I’m Not There, a more experimental biopic on the life of Bob Dylan where the role was played by several actors including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Ben Whishaw, and Heath Ledger.

With A Complete Unknown though, it looks like the approach is going to be the traditional biopic with Chalamet playing the role of Dylan. It’s funny that Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook) should appear in the movie, because director James Mangold also directed a Johnny Cash biopic way back in 2005, and he was played by none other than Joaquin Phoenix.

Hopefully A Complete Unknown becomes an interesting look into Bob Dylan’s work as a musician, and like previous biopics, introduce a new generation of fans to his music.

A Complete Unknown comes to theatres on Dec. 25.
