Medical Sitcoms Meet Sci-Fi in Trailer for The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

We’ve had a string on hit animated sci-fi shows recently with the likes of Rick and Morty and Star Trek: Lower Decks, but Amazon Prime Video is adding a hospital workplace comedy twist to that genre with The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy.

Check out the trailer:

The series stars Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Keke Palmer (Nope) with Kieran Cukin (Succession) and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face) playing supporting roles. Here’s the official description for the series:

In Season One of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, doctors Sleech and Klak take on a highly dangerous and potentially groundbreaking case and, in doing so, put existence itself in jeopardy. Although considering their dismal personal lives, oblivion might be an improvement.

The series comes for Cirocco Dunlap who has also worked on series like Russian Doll and Miracle Workers. The show also has a guest list of actors ncluding Tracee Ellis Ross (American Fiction), Bowen Yang (SNL), Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), and Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick).

While audiences are used to watching Rick Sanchez do science with a healthy dose of nihilism, it’s going to be interesting to watch the same kind of crazy happen in a sci-fi hospital setting. We don’t know if the show has anything deeper to say about the profession, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when it premieres.

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy streams on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 23.
