Dracula Returns to Horror in Trailer for The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Universal may be doing a take on Dracula with Nicolas Cage in Renfield, but they’re set to bring the character back to its horror roots with The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

Check out the first trailer:

Here’s the official story description:

Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.

Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.

Undoubtedly, the most famous person in the cast is Liam Cunningham, who had played another sea farer in Game of Thrones, Davos Seaworth (a.k.a. The Onion Knight). While I expect his character to die at some point in the film, it’s pretty neat that they got him to play another sea captain.

With Dracula Untold not being the franchise starter that Universal hoped, I’m excited to see all these new experimental takes on classic monsters with movies like The Invisible Man. I guess I’m just happy to watch a film that’s focused on telling one contained story as compared to the blockbusters that sometimes get lost in hyping up the next three films in the franchise.

Watch out for The Last Voyage of the Demeter when it comes to cinemas on Aug. 11.
