Trailer for the First Omen Has a Creepy Backwards Message

Richard Donner’s The Omen is considered to be a horror classic about the coming of the antichrist, and even the film itself was said to be ‘cursed’ during production. The remake in 2006 didn’t really kick-off, but now 20th Century Studios is going the prequel route with The First Omen.

Here’s the first trailer starring Nell Tiger Free, Tawkeef Barhom, Sonia Braga, Bill Nighy, and Ralph Ineson:

The official description reads:

When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

The trailer actually amps up the creep factor by having all the clips play backwards, and there is actually a reversed message by the end of the clip that when flipped says, “Look at me, Damien. It’s all for you!” a line said by the nanny from the first movie who kills herself:

We don’t know what 20th Century Studios wants to do with the franchise yet. The first Omen actually spawned three more sequels with Damien: Omen II, Omen III: The Final Conflict, and Omen IV: Awakening. Only the first Omen film was well regarded, but you can imagine the success of the sequels resulting in more movies getting greenlit.

Hopefully this prequel will be the more ideal route moving forward for the franchise.

Catch The First Omen when it comes to cinemas on April 5.
