Studio Colorido has been behind fantastic animated projects from Penguin Highway to Drifting Home, and they’ve just unveiled their next upcoming movie with Netflix called My Oni Girl.

Here’s the official description via Netflix:
My Oni Girl follows the journey of Hiiragi (Kensho Ono), a boy who can’t say no for fear of being disliked, and Tsumugi (Miyu Tomita), a spirited oni girl who champions self-expression and openly sharing your feelings. As Hiiragi and Tsumugi navigate their unusual friendship, they uncover truths about themselves and the mysterious conditions that turn humans into oni.
The movie is being helmed by Tomotaka Shibayama who had helmed A Whisker Away for the studio back in 2020. He’s also worked in other notable projects including Your Lie in April, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Silver Spoon.
Though Oni are a very popular kind of creature that we see in fantasy anime all the time, it’s kind of interesting to see them walking around in a fantasy setting; plus they also have the bit of lore that Oni comes from people not expressing their emotions.
No doubt, the animation looks fantastic, and any anime fan would know that Colorido has made for some gorgrous-looking films. Admittedly, A Whisker Away didn’t make that much waves when it came out, but it was still a beautiful film. Hopefully My Oni Girl manages to wow audiences when it comes out in a month.
My Oni Girl coms to theaters and on Netflix this May 24.
