Trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis is More Dazzling than You Could have Imagined

We saw Adam Driver stop time in the first look Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, but that hasn’t prepared audiences for just how visually dazzling the film is aiming to be.

Just in, Coppola has dropped the first proper trailer for his passion project, and it’s chockfull of all kinds of stunning visuals that you can expect from a seasoned auteur. Check this out:

While Coppola himself at the helm was enough to get people buzzing about Megalopolis, it was also said that Coppola was having a hard time finding a studio that would be willing to market the movie because it was just said to be too artsy to sell to the general audience.

If A24 and Searchlight has proven anything though, it’s still possible to market more arthouse projects to mass audiences—but not every film can be sold the same way and have guaranteed success.

Just looking at the movie though, there has to be a reason why a director like Coppola was so insistent on having the project made. Sure, a lot of his recent films haven’t achieved Godfather-level status, but he’s still the guy who made those movies in the first place. Surely something about Megalopolis is so great that Coppola would have his complete faith in it.

Besides the director, the cast also looks fantastic. Adam Driver has proven himself to be a powerhouse performer, but bring in Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Shwartzman, and Nathalie Emmanuel, and we have a film that’s sure to turn some heads at Cannes this year.

I’m sure fans will even forgive that Shia LaBeouf is in this film.

Megalopolis is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May, but we should expect a wide release sometime within the year.
