Taika Waititi had just dropped Akira to come back and work for Marvel Studios with Thor: Love and Thunder, and this time around he’s bringing along Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster to be the new lead. What’s interesting it looks like he’s going to be bringing back one of the kookier stars of Thor: Ragnarok—Jeff Goldblum.
This is what Goldblum posted shortly after the announcement of Love and Thunder:

So far we know that The Grandmaster has lost all his fighters in the arena, so I would be fascinating to see what’s happened to him since the events of Ragnarok. We don’t know if he managed to survive the Snap, but either way, he must have found his own method of coping with a crisis. Maybe he decided to crash with his brother The Collector, but even now his fate is still a mystery.
If anything, we could have Goldblum’s Grandmaster come to Earth, just like they did with the short Team Darryl. Those shorts aren’t really considered canon, but I would actually be happy to see Darryl in the official MCU.
While I loved how kooky the Grandmaster was in Ragnarok, I kind of wish they got something a bit more serious from Goldblum out of the character. I mean, I know he kills people on a whim, but he never really felt dangerous at all. Hopefully they find a way to make him fun while at the same time threatening should they ever bring him back.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be directed by Taika Waititi and will star Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, and Tessa Thompson. The film is set to hit theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
