A lot of fans are still hoping that John Boyega comes back for another Star Wars film, but he’s teamed up with Netflix for a sci-fi comedy called They Cloned Tyrone alongside Teyonah Parris (The Marvels, WandaVision) and Jamie Foxx (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
The film is set to premiere this July, and we have a new trailer showcasing just how odd and hilarious this sci-fi mystery/comedy is. Watch this:
The official logline reads: A series of eerie events thrusts an unlikely trio (John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx) onto the trail of a nefarious government experience conspiracy in this pulpy mystery caper.
If you’ve watched Boyega’s work before Star Wars, the film kind of feels like his breakout movie Attack the Block where he also plays a kid from the streets who finds himself connected to a sci-fi conspiracy. When it comes to They Cloned Tyrone though, it does feel like the movie is a sci-fi mystery that’s also embracing the imagery of the ‘blaxploitation’ genre that was pretty rampant in the 70s.
The film actually looks like a lot of fun, and they’ve managed to gather an impressive cast with Boyega, Parris, and Foxx. I guess it’s worth noting that this will also be the debut film for director Juel Taylor, who had also wrote the script for Creed II as well as Space Jam: A New Legacy.
Watch out for They Cloned Tyrone when the film releases on Netflix on July 21.
