The Next Star Wars Saga Said to be Taking Place in the ‘High Republic’ Era

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had put a cap on the Skywalker Saga, and Lucasfilm is set to venture into new territory with another trilogy coming in 2022. We don’t have any official confirmation on the films yet, but we now have a new rumor giving us when the next trilogy will take place.

According to Making Star Wars, sources have said that the next trilogy will take place 400 years before the timeline of the main Star Wars Saga during an era that is being regarded as The High Republic Era. The upcoming movies are said to not be a trilogy of films, but rather interconnected anthology entries not entirely different from the earlier Star Wars Stories like Rogue One and Solo.

Personally I would prefer that they decided to just keep moving forward with the story, but I’m sure there are a lot of Old Republic fans that would love to watch a classic Jedi vs Sith storyline. With the timeline, we might also get a chance to meet a young Yoda in the height of his Jedi powers.

Then again, this is all just a rumor for now. Until we get an official announcement though, this is something to talk about among the fans.

Ever since Solo underperformed in the box office, the Star Wars franchise has admittedly lost its bearings. The Mandalorian came out great, but The Rise of Skywalker was a huge letdown. Hopefully Lucasfilm takes this hiatus as a time to properly map out their future with directors they can trust and projects that will please all fans—if that’s even possible.

The next trilogy is set to come out in 2022, but you can check out Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker now in theaters.
