Though some fans weren’t too happy with what Rian Johnson did with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there are also those who absolutely can’t wait for his return to Star Wars. We don’t know when we’re going to get his trilogy yet, but he has expressed interest in directing an episode of Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
As revealed by USA Today’s Sariah Wilson, Johnson has talked to Mandalorian director Dave Filoni about directing an episode of Mando, and he’s just finding the time to do it within his schedule of directing Knives Out 2. Wilson posts:

While Johnson has been mostly working on movies now, he has had some notable success when it comes to TV. Probably the most celebrated piece of his TV work is the Breaking Bad episode Ozymandias. It shouldn’t be a stretch for Johnson to come back to Lucasfilm to do even just one episode of The Mandalorian. Why stop there? There are several other shows that Johnson could very well direct from shows like Ahsoka to other series like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor.
We don’t know when Johnson officially comes back to Star Wars, but there are a good chunk of TLJ fans that can’t wait for his return. In the meantime, the next big Star Wars series is The Book of Boba Fett, and it’s expected to premiere sometime around the holiday season. Fans can also check out the first two seasons of The Mandalorian now available on Disney+.
