As promised, DC FanDome has dropped a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and while we’ve already had several iterations of the Dark Knight appear onscreen, Robert Pattinson shares a bit about how unhinged his version of the character will be in the movie.
Talking before the trailer debut, Pattinson shares:
“[Batman] doesn’t have as much control over his personality. The delineation between when he’s Batman and when he’s Bruce is not so clear… He really knows what he’s doing when he’s putting on the cowl… It’s a little bit out of control, he hasn’t completely defined what Batman is. He gets lost in it; whenever he’s putting it on every night, and basically, he’s not sleeping, and he’s becoming this quite sort of odd creature.”
Though Batman is dark and broody, at his very core he’s a shining example of a traditional ‘hero,’ and it looks like Pattinson and Reeves are going to be approaching the character of Bruce Wayne as he’s still finding out who Batman is.
We kind of got an unhinged version of Batman with Ben Affleck, as we saw him trying to take down Superman, but with Pattinson, it looks like we have a Dark Knight who is just angry at everything, and every fight with criminals feels personal and brutal.
It’s kind of odd that Reeves would talk about how much more grounded his version of Batman is, seeing that ‘grounded’ was essentially the approach of the Nolan Trilogy. Even then, it’s great that we get to see a grittier version of Batman without all the clean bells and whistles. It looks like Battinson kind of just scraped together what he and Alfred could find, and there’s a lot of grime and dirt when it comes to the preview.
Hopefully we won’t get any more delays this time, as the movie was expected to come out last June.
Catch The Batman when it finally hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
