The Omen franchise was kickstarted back in the 70s, and had attempted a reboot back in 2006 but has been dormant since then. Now 20th Century Studios is looking to make a prequel called The First Omen, and we have a new trailer teasing all the horrific things to come.
Check this out:
In the first movie, we discover that a child (Damien) with an unknown origin is said to be the antichrist, and ‘evil’ things just start happening around him. We never meet Damien’s mother in the movie, but this looks to be the film that will tell her story.
The woman standing by the window who possibly sets herself on fire looks to be an homage to the scene from the first film where a nanny calls to the child from a balcony and then proceeds to hang herself.
She even says the line, “It’s all for you,” like the nanny says in the original.
We know all about the ‘demonic possession genre’ but The Omen kind of mixes that with the ‘horrific coincidences’ trope that is the backbone of the Final Destination movies. We don’t know if The First Omen will be successful, but there is a gold mine of horror when it comes to religious-based fear.
The official description for the movie reads:
When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.
The First Omen is set to hit theaters on April 5.
