A lot of Star Wars fans were disappointed when it was announced that Disney+ had cancelled The Acolyte after one season, and a lot of anti-woke fans saw this as an absolute win on their part.
While some are slowly accepting the series may not be coming back, new data suggests that there is actually a lot of fan demand for a second season, and it may be one of the most successful series to come out on Disney+ when it did.
According to Parrot Analytics (via @swholocron), The Acolyte was in demand in the US 20.4 times the market average in the past 30 days. As it turns out, the only series that have been able to make those numbers were held by 2.7% of the streaming service’s shows.
Back when news of the cancellation had come out, there was already a strong #RenewTheAcolyte movement online; but some were saying that the cancellation meant that it was because the series had cost a lot of money, and it wasn’t worth the returns that Disney+ was reporting.
Even if that was the case, there was nothing but great things being said about the show, and it did deliver on the Prequel era lightsaber action that has been missing from series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
We don’t know what Disney is going to do with this information, but it does seem like more things are getting cancelled now unless they’re a Stranger Things-level hit. Fingers crossed The Acolyte 2 gets the greenlight anyway.
Catch the first season of The Acolyte now streaming on Disney+.
