It was inevitable that the two would end up talking about The Batman, and Reeves reveals that one of his favourite moments with Catwoman in the movie was actually something Kravitz came up with. Kravitz had apparently liked the line “I have a thing about strays,” but Reeves had no idea how to put it into the scene.
Reeves explains, “I was like, ‘I do love that idea, but i don’t know how we’ll ever get that line in,’ and you go, ‘oh, that’s so easy. You just have [Batman] look down at the cats and say, ‘You got a lot of cats.'”

Here’s the scene from the film:
It’s definitely a great character moment in the film, and a says so much about Selina’s motivation and why she was so protective of Annika in the movie. Admittedly just having Batman mention that she has a lot of cats so she could explain herself was a genius move when it came to the writing.
The last we saw of Selina in The Batman, she went off to find a new life in Bludhaven (where Nightwing operates), but she’s also set to make a return in The Batman Part II. The finale of The Penguin also has her reaching out to her half-sister Sofia Falcone in Arkham, so it’s possible fans would also get to see more of her down the line.
No release date has been set for The Batman Part II, but the movie is expecting to shoot sometime next year.

Here’s the official description from MGM:
When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. Nobody wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. Something is wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.
The premise of a rich person inviting all of their friends to a private island is pretty much the same setting of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, but add to that a protagonist that’s having gaps in their memory, and you have a dash of Christopher Nolan’s Memento in there.
Admittedly having Kravitz in the director’s chair for the first time does add a lot of pressure on the movie, but with the stellar cast and what looks to be an interesting premise, maybe Blink Twice will manage to surprise everyone.
I mean, Olivia Wilde managed to pull it off. Why not Kravitz?
Besides the previously mentioned cast members, the movie also includes Kyle MacLachlan, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat.
Blink Twice is set to release in theaters on Aug. 23.

Get a behind the scenes look at the making of Gotham City in The Batman. The producers and cast explain the amazing visual effects and technology that went on behind the camera.
While there has been a lot of ire thrown at the overuse of green screen, there has been a lot of buzz with these big VFX walls that can project the scenery that will be added in the final product—becoming a perfect mesh of practical and CG.
Of course, the technology still has its limitations, but so far, films and TV that have been using it have turned out visually stunning; not just with The Batman, but with Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian as well.
Personally, I’m excited to see where the tech goes moving forward.
Batman ventures into Gotham City’s underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis.
The Batman is now streaming on HBO Max.
]]>In an IG story (via Variety), Kravitz explained that she wasn’t auditioning for the Catwoman role at all, but a smaller part (probably Jen who was played by Juno Temple). Kravitz says:
“I did not mention this to point any fingers or make anyone seem racist, namely Chris Nolan, the film’s producers or anyone on the casting team because I truly do not believe anyone meant any harm. I was simply giving an example of what it was like to be a woman of color in this industry at that time.”
For context, this was the statement that Kravitz made that was going around before she had to clarify:
“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan… I think it was probably a casting director of some kind, or a casting director’s assistant…Being a woman of color and being an actor and being told at that time that I wasn’t able to read because of the color of my skin, and the word urban being thrown around like that, that was what was really hard about that moment.”
It’s probably a relief that Kravitz didn’t get cast, as that would have probably been in the way if she was to find a role as Catwoman in this new iteration of Batman. The trend with these things is to cast as far away from previous versions as possible—that’s why we’ll probably never see Christian Bale or Michael Keaton play a villain in the future.
For now, Kravitz has been getting a lot of praise as Catwoman. Anne Hathaway may have done a great job in rises, but we actually get to see more of Selina Kyle at work with Kravitz’s version. Not to mention she can hold her own when next to Pattinson’s Batman.

Vanity Fair brought up this question from a user TxC, which asks:
“Any superhero and anti-hero would drop Joker, Riddler, Penguin, etc. in a second, but Batman keeps them alive so he can continue putting them in jail.”
Pattinson then replied, “That is actually one of the things that I was really thinking. I think he keeps going after low-level criminals every night, and partially he’s wanting to relive the trauma of his past and rewriting history, ‘cause it’s otherwise—he’s not going after a corrupt president or something. He’s going after the same low-level kind of thugs that killed his parents. He almost keeps his parent alive by fighting in these alleyways.”
As someone who’s already seen the movie, I can definitely read that they are going a different direction when it comes to this Batman—in a sense that they are bringing him back to his superhero roots. I’d expound further, but that would actually risk spoiling the film for some.
So far everyone has been praising The Batman, but we’ve yet to get the opinion of the general public. Let’s not forget, a lot of critics praised Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but we know how protective and crazy some fans can get about their characters not coming out the way they want them. Hopefully that won’t be the case with Batman.

]]>In a recent interview with People (via @pattinsonphotos), Pattinson’s The Batman star Zoe Kravitz was asked whether she’s watched Twilight to which she admits she hasn’t seen the film. Pattinson then replied, “It’s not even cool to be a hater anymore… That’s so 2010.”

Though Pattinson has moved on to do many different kinds of projects since Twilight, his image of Edward Cullen has admittedly been stuck in audience’s minds. If you watch his more recent films—like Lighthouse and Good Time—it’s clear that he can definitely deliver some captivated, nuanced performances. Christopher Nolan saw that when he cast Pattinson in Tenet, and now director Matt Reeves is taking a chance on him with this upcoming Batman movie.
Going back to Twilight though, it’s not much different from several other YA franchises. If anything, some have pointed out that the hate toward the franchise kind of comes from a very sexist place; in that it was mainly targeted toward young girls. You don’t see that same kind of scrutiny when it comes to spectacle pictures like the Fast and Furious movies.
As Pattinson puts it, “It’s not even cool to be a hater anymore.”

Talking to the Los Angeles Times (via ComicBookMovie), Reeves explained:
“Here’s the thing, my feeling in doing the film was always that I would never treat it as chapter one. Because chapter one assumes that there are more chapters… So what I wanted to do was to make this movie a satisfying experience so that people could experience a new fresh version of a character that the world has loved for over eighty years.”
Admittedly, Reeves’ franchise movies don’t feel as connected with each other as modern franchise films. Just looking at his Planet of the Apes entries, they take place in the same world, but each entry follows completely different arcs. We should be lucky if The Batman can manage to have the same feel.
“I think that if we succeed on that front, I know that I have a lot of stories I want to tell and then we’ll do chapter two, but not because we didn’t make this one a complete experience… Let’s just see what happens, let’s see the audience watch it. I hope they connect to it and if they do then yes there’s definitely more to do and I will not be napping for too long!”
For now, a sequel to The Batman hasn’t been officially announced, and it’s not even sure how this version of the Dark Knight is going to connect to the main DCEU timeline—but I guess that’s what gives Reeves the freedom to tell this story.

Using a blacklight actually makes it clearer, and you can also catch a message saying “Find out why,” with a secret code in the bottom:

We don’t know what other Easter Eggs could be hidden in marketing material, but I would start shining a blue light on any piece of Batman material I’d run into. You have to admit, it’s a great piece of meta marketing on the designers’ part.
While Batman movies have focused on the more bombastic set pieces, it’s said that Matt Reeves’ upcoming film will lean in more on the “greatest detective in the world” aspect of Batman, and he’ll have to unearth a lot of Riddler clues throughout the film—while at the same time clashing with Catwoman and the Penguin.
Though the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League had brought a lot of hope to fans for #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, it looks like WB will be forging this new path with their upcoming DC films. We don’t know where Battinson’s place in the main timeline will be, but I am up for an original, unconnected story with its own original vibe. Who knows, maybe a multi-verse crossover with The Flash could let Pattinson make a cameo. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Vengeance will descend on Gotham. #TheBatman, only in theaters March 4. pic.twitter.com/ZDVw8bm9xi

While the recent Batman films (including The Dark Knight trilogy) have always had end-of-the-world stakes, it’s said that Reeves’ Batman movie will be more of a slow burn which will focus on Batman’s detective skills. There’s also been word going around that it’s inspired by the comic The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale.
If anything, Reeves’ Batman is going to bring a brand new take on the Caped Crusader. With Ben Affleck playing an old and grizzled Batman, and Christian Bale having fully learned the ropes by his second movie; this film looks to focus on a younger Batman in a transitional period. We don’t have to find out his origin story, but we do get to watch him kind of find out who the Batman really is the middle of the late night brawls and sleepless nights.
Let’s just hope this film is the crowd-pleaser WB needs it to be without having to follow that Marvel formula of kid-friendly one-liners.
In his second year of fighting crime, Batman uncovers corruption in Gotham City that connects to his own family while facing a serial killer known as the Riddler.

]]>Talking to Premiere (via ComicBookMovie), Pattinson explained, “There is this rule with Batman: he must not kill. It can be interpreted in two ways… Either he only wants to inflict the appropriate punishment, or he wants to kill and his self-control prevents him from doing so.”
Granted, this is a more gruff take on the character than previous iterations, and while we got an up-and-coming Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, Bale’s Bruce Wayne was still very much allowed to access his wealth. Pattinson’s version is going to different in a sense that he won’t have such a lavish lifestyle on the other side. “This Batman practically lives in the gutter. He’s nowhere at home except on the street when he’s wearing the suit,” said Pattinson, “I could only play a superhero if he was really dirty!”
I’m really loving Pattinson’s attitude toward the character, and I’m excited to see just what kind of Batman he’s going to be bringing to the big screen. Though I am bummed that we won’t be getting any more Batfleck, I’m confident Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight is going to be original and have its own unique voice.

Though we were expecting Catwoman to be an adversary for the majority of the movie, it looks like she’ll be teaming up with the Dark Knight early. It seems that the film will also be leaning in on the dramatic tension between the two characters as early as this first movie.
As for the Riddler, we don’t know what he has against the entire city, but the trailer does reveal that he knows the identity of the Batman. This is also something I never thought I’d miss onscreen; but it’s fun to see the Riddler’s henchmen in Riddler garb, probably to make it easier for the Riddler to hide himself among them. We don’t know what else he has planned up his sleeve, but it looks like the fallout is going to be catastrophic unless the Batman stops him.
And while Alfred has mostly been comic relief in the latest Batman movies, it looks like the film is going to have him hiding a big secret from Bruce. I’m not expecting things to get too shaken up, but I am open to Reeves doing a completely new take on the Caped Crusader with this grungy, dark movie.

It’s also worth noting that McFarlane has also revealed a Batcycle for their ‘Battinson’ figure, and not to be a gripe, but it looks like a pretty standard black bike.
View this post on Instagram
Back to the costumes though, I think this new Batman has a pretty great batsuit, but McFarlane needs to work on the way the cape looks. I mean, it’s great in a standard pose, but they should give collectors the option to replace it with a cloth cape.
As for other characters, this is the best look we have at Riddler’s costume. We don’t know why he comes with an ice pick, but I’m guessing that will have some kind of relevance in the film. This version of Catwoman is also different from past iterations because she’s actually wearing a full ski mask. Hopefully the come up with an alternate head showing Zoe Kravitz’s face, because of all the figures, I think the Catwoman one looks the most underwhelming.
Each character comes with a description that gives insight on the plot as well. Check these out:
BATMAN – The Batman is two years into his role as Gotham’s embodiment of vengeance – a nocturnal vigilante who strikes fear in the hearts of criminals. A reclusive scion of Gotham’s richest family questioning his family’s legacy, The World’s Greatest Detective stalks the streets at night employing a lethal combination of mental mastery, physical strength and expert technology on his journey to becoming the city’s symbol of hope.
RIDDLER – The Riddler has quickly established himself as Gotham’s deadliest threat yet. This enigmatic, masked killer has devised a sinister series of puzzles and tortuous devices to entrap Gotham’s elite and publicly unmask the city’s darkest truths.
CATWOMAN – Selina Kyle is a mysterious figure who is quietly infiltrating Gotham’s seedy underbelly to further her own agenda. Her fierce attitude and tenacious agility are the perfect tools to excel as a cat burglar, but hidden underneath the array of identities and the motorcycle leathers is a protective soul who’s more at home with the city’s strays than its citizens.
The Batman is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. You can pre-order these McFarlane figures today.
]]>Talking before the trailer debut, Pattinson shares:
“[Batman] doesn’t have as much control over his personality. The delineation between when he’s Batman and when he’s Bruce is not so clear… He really knows what he’s doing when he’s putting on the cowl… It’s a little bit out of control, he hasn’t completely defined what Batman is. He gets lost in it; whenever he’s putting it on every night, and basically, he’s not sleeping, and he’s becoming this quite sort of odd creature.”
Though Batman is dark and broody, at his very core he’s a shining example of a traditional ‘hero,’ and it looks like Pattinson and Reeves are going to be approaching the character of Bruce Wayne as he’s still finding out who Batman is.
We kind of got an unhinged version of Batman with Ben Affleck, as we saw him trying to take down Superman, but with Pattinson, it looks like we have a Dark Knight who is just angry at everything, and every fight with criminals feels personal and brutal.
It’s kind of odd that Reeves would talk about how much more grounded his version of Batman is, seeing that ‘grounded’ was essentially the approach of the Nolan Trilogy. Even then, it’s great that we get to see a grittier version of Batman without all the clean bells and whistles. It looks like Battinson kind of just scraped together what he and Alfred could find, and there’s a lot of grime and dirt when it comes to the preview.
Hopefully we won’t get any more delays this time, as the movie was expected to come out last June.
