Interestingly enough, it looks like Lucasfilm is ready to announce the next writer onboard the franchise—and it sounds like a huge project as well. Deadline reports that Simon Kinberg, who had worked on the Fox X-Men films since The Last Stand, has closed a deal with Lucasfilm to write a whole trilogy of Star Wars films.

It’s unclear if this is going to be the mainline follow-up to the Skywalker saga, but it does seem like Lucasfilm is trying to remedy what happened with the Sequel Trilogy in that a different writer was responsible for each entry (at least, when it started). With Kinberg onboard for three movies out the gate, we should expect some kind of consistency to the value of the three films.

Though Kinberg is best known for his work on X-Men, he also has the status of co-creating the animated Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni; he was also a consultant on The Force Awakens back in 2015.

I’ll admit, neither of those SW properties is my favourite, but they are for a lot of fans, and maybe Kinberg has the right idea for where to take this trilogy. Let’s just hope that Lucasfilm doesn’t secretly sideline him down the line like what happened with creatives like Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Damon Lindelof, David Benioff, Dan Weiss, and probably many more.

We don’t know when Kinberg’s Star Wars is set to move forward, but hopefully we get more details soon.

Billie Eilish Being Eyed for Marvel Studios Role? https://www.geekfeed.com/billie-eilish-being-eyed-for-marvel-studios-role/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 18:04:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84967 Billie Eilish has been in the public consciousness since 2019, and though she has a lucrative music career, it’s possible that she could be looking to actually get in front of the camera for movies.

According to a recent rumor from insider Daniel RPK (via @marvel_update3s) Marvel Studios is currently interested in casting Eilish in a ‘big role’ for the MCU. No details have been revealed, but a rumor is going out that they want her to play X-Men member Rogue.

For context, the only other live-action actress to play Rogue was Anna Paquin in Bryan Singer’s original X-Men. Though she was kind of coded as an edgy teen in those films, it wasn’t until the animated X-Men: Evolution where Rogue went full goth and changed the lives of every 12-year-old millennial.

Though Eilish has proven herself as a solid musical performer, her acting chops are yet to be tested; but a role as the new Rogue for an X-Men reboot could work—especially if they want to have her be influenced a more contemporary version of the character. I don’t think Eilish is equipped to do a Rogue inspired by the 90s version complete with the Southern accent and big hair; but she’s very much welcome to try.

Personally, I loved the fancasting of Keke Palmer (Nope) as Rogue, complete with big hair and Southern background, but at this point, Palmer may be too old to pull off a teenage version of the character.

To be fair, Eilish would be an interesting bit of casting, but I think there are other (more experienced) young actresses who could pull the character off.

For now, Marvel has no release date for the X-Men reboot.

Fans Wants Saturday Night’s John Belushi to be the New Wolverine https://www.geekfeed.com/fans-wants-john-belushi-to-be-the-new-wolverine/ Sun, 20 Oct 2024 04:50:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84846 We know that Marvel Studios wants Hugh Jackman to stick around as Wolverine a bit more, but some have been hoping that a new person would take up the Wolverine role. While names like Taron Egerton and Daniel Radcliffe have been thrown around for years, there is a fresh face that fans think could be perfect—and he looks an awful lot like John Belushi.

A post on Twitter suggesting that Matt Wood, who plays Belushi in Jason Reitman’s SNL biopic Saturday Night, could be the perfect Wolverine for the MCU. Not only does he look gruff, but he’s also a bit on the short side—which is what fans have been wanting from Wolverine for a long time.

The post has already managed to earn more than 16,000 likes on Twitter, and more are now warming up to the idea of Wood playing the part.

When it comes to MCU films, the franchise usually picks lesser-known actors to commit for big roles—that’s what they did with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth (Chris Evans was already pretty famous). With Wood very much expected to be a rising star after Saturday Night, having him sign on as Wolverine now would definitely be a great pick for Marvel.

That’s kind of like the jackpot they got when they had Florence Pugh commit to a role like Yelena Belova; but I guess nobody knew that she was just going to rocket to fame after Black Widow.

I think it’s also fitting that fans would pick a John Belushi lookalike for the role of Wolverine, since the very first ever Saturday Night Live skit starred Belushi and it was called, surprisingly, The Wolverines. Check this out:

Though I do agree that Jackman is a great Wolverine, I am in the camp of fans that wants to put nostalgia in the backburner and introduce some new creatives when it comes to Marvel. It’s probably going to take a few more years, but I hope Feige and his team are ready to move forward after Secret Wars.

In the meantime, catch Wood in Saturday Night now showing in theatres.

X-Men’s Psylocke Officially Revealed for Marvel Rivals https://www.geekfeed.com/psylocke-officially-revealed-for-marvel-rivals/ Tue, 24 Sep 2024 13:08:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84445 The Marvel Rivals roster continues to grow, and while the game has managed to include heavy hitters like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, some fan-favorites have also been included in the roster.

The latest character to be revealed for the game? X-Men’s Psylocke. Check her out here:

Though X-Men fans have a pretty clear image of a certain version of Psylocke—with the dark purple one piece and red sash—this version of Psylocke is based on artist Peach Momoko’s Demon Days comic, a reimagining of the Marvel Universe based on Japanese folklore.

Rather than being called Betsy Bradock, this version of Psylocke was simply called “Sai” and she was a wandering swordsman trope with an animal companion named “Logan”.

It’s actually a fairly new adaptation, only coming out in 2021, but it does track with Rivals and their approach to presenting established characters with fresh original looks for the game.

There isn’t a breakdown of Psylocke’s abilities in the game yet, but it’s very likely she could be a melee combat hero, what with her katana. Based on what she does in the trailer, it also looks like she could have the ability to teleport. In the comics, her powers are mostly telekinetic, and she has a pink power signature. She also has telepathic abilities, so it’s possible they could add that to the game.

With a release set for December, it’s possible that Marvel Rivals still has more characters to reveal. It’s only a matter of time.

Marvel Rivals is expected to launch on Dec. 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

X-Men ’97 Creator Breaks Silence on His Ongoing Feud with Marvel https://www.geekfeed.com/x-men-97-creator-breaks-silence-on-ongoing-feud/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 13:10:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84146 X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has been at the center of controversy ever since Marvel kicked him out of his show, and then decided that they would be removing his writing credits for the second season.

With Marvel and DeMayo having a ‘he-said-she-said’ battle online of what really went down with DeMayo’s exit, Deadline has come out with the details from DeMayo’s side, citing that Marvel had criminal working conditions and had been launching a smear campaign on DeMayo to make it look like the studio was justified in removing him from his show.

In a nearly 30-minute video that DeMayo released on his OnlyFans (yeah, really), DeMayo talks about Disney trying to discredit him after his exit because he wasn’t willing to play along with all the rules that Marvel had set up for him. DeMayo said in his statement about X-Men ’97:

In the end, the offenses Marvel and others have leaked are designed to distract you from what really offended them. Someone like me dared to speak truth to people like them. They wanted me to be the Black stamp of approval on this project, I declined. They wanted to erase aspects of my personality that clashed or proved inconvenient with the misguided narratives they wanted to establish. I declined. They tried to intimidate me with both explicit and implied threats. I was not intimidated. Everything they have done since then has been designed not just to silence me and smear me, but to crush me and to remind me to know my role.

DeMayo is said to be pursuing legal action against Disney with his lawyer saying that the NDA that Disney forced DeMayo to sign ‘obviously violated basic California law’.

So far, neither DeMayo nor his lawyer have named names when it comes to the higher ups at Disney who they are deeming responsible for this whole fiasco, but it’s expected that they’ll reveal them soon enough should this thing go further.

As of now, Disney is yet to release a statement, but the opinion on DeMayo is currently divisive to say the least.

As of now, you can still catch DeMayo’s work as X-Men ’97 is now streaming on Disney+.

Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will Feature More X-Teams https://www.geekfeed.com/season-2-of-x-men-97-will-feature-more-x-teams/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 10:03:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83870 The X-Men may be the mutant group of Marvel comics, but there have been known to be splinter factions of the group made up of different mutants and usually different approaches to a mission. What’s interesting is, we could be seeing them come the second season of X-Men ’97.

Talking to Collider, series EP Brad Winderbaum teases some incoming X-teams in the next season. He says, “There’s many teams, in Marvel, that have the letter “X” that are followed by a hyphen. I would put it to you like this… there’s two other X teams in Season 2.”

For now, fans are just left to speculate who the incoming teams could be, and based on the comics, there have been the teams X-Force and X-Factor. In the comics, X-Factor was formed as a way to reunite the original X-Men including Jean Grey, Angel, Beast, Cyclops, and Ice Man. They were said to have pretended to be a mutant-hunting group in order to be able to help other mutants. Their main adversary was Apocalypse—who is going to be one of the major baddies in the second season.

As for X-Force, they were considered to be a revamped version of the New Mutants, and they were considered to be more aggressive and deadly when it comes to their missions. Cable had led the team once, and we saw a version of them led by Deadpool in his second movie.

With more mutants teased and the team having split by time, it was a no-brainer that there would be two X-teams in the next season. With just the first season being able to adapt some of the more obscure comic storylines, fans are excited to see how Marvel Animation is going to adapt some of the newer stories that came out around the early ‘00s.

No release date has been set for Season 2 of X-Men ’97, but it is expected to premiere sometime next year.

Ryan Reynolds Shares New Images of Dogpool https://www.geekfeed.com/ryan-reynolds-shares-new-images-of-dogpool/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 06:59:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83758 Deadpool and Wolverine may have had the relationship between Wade and Logan at the center, but the movie still managed to have the spotlight on several side characters. We already got multiple reveals for characters like Gambit, Blade, and Elektra, but Ryan Reynolds has shared a new photo of a particularly special Deadpool variant—Dogpool.

Check these new Dogpool photos out:

Admittedly Dogpool doesn’t really do anything active in the story, but she does make for a lot of great comic relief; particularly with Reynolds who doesn’t seem to mind having the dog continuously frenching him in the movie. It’s also Deadpool’s infatuation with Dogpool that is at the very core of his hate for “Nicepool” and once the film got rid of him, Dogpool was then free to stay with Deadpool Prime.

For now, it’s unclear what Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios wants to do with Deadpool. After all the hype surrounding the Wolverine team-up, it does seem that Reynolds and the crew are just resting on their laurels for now before they think of what to do next.

If anything, fans are sure that Deadpool and Wolverine are going to have something to do with Avengers: Secret Wars, then after that, Marvel would be ready to reboot the X-Men and introduce a whole new team.

I mean, I know there are a lot of people who love Hugh Jackman as Logan, but there’s just no way the character can keep going if they just keep sticking to him for the next few years. Even the Robert Downey Jr. announcement rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.

Catch Deadpool and Wolverine now showing in theatres.

Henry Cavill Shares Official Look at His Deadpool and Wolverine Cameo; Throws Shade at Justice League https://www.geekfeed.com/cavill-shares-deadpool-and-wolverine-cameo/ Thu, 08 Aug 2024 10:09:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83653 Henry Cavill may have lost his chance to return as Superman, but he did get to have a bit of fun in the MCU for a few seconds as a Wolverine variant.

With leaks going around online like wildfire, Cavill has decided to officially share a look at him as Logan in costume—complete with cigar. Check this out:

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill)

It’s funny because the caption, “To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache,” is a jab at him working on Justice League. Infamously, he was told he wasn’t allowed to shave of his moustache for the reshoots, and the studio was forced to spend millions to have the facial hair digitally removed—and it didn’t even look great in the final product.

As for his appearance in Wolverine, this would probably lead to a lot of fans demanding that Cavill play the MCU Wolverine moving forward. With his Warhammer series possibly going into creative limbo, maybe Cavill can be free enough to actually have a solid spot in the MCU; but it’s possible that he’s still too closely tied to Superman so Marvel may want someone else to really embody the role.

I really just hope that Deadpool’s joke about Jackman ‘doing this until he’s 90’ isn’t going to be taken seriously by any of the Marvel execs. As for Cavill, fingers are crossed that he manages to nab a role that will treat him right soon.

Catch Deadpool and Wolverine now in theatres.

X-Men ’97: Watch Walkthrough of Airbnb’s Uncanny X-Mansion https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-walkthrough-of-airbnbs-uncanny-x-mansion/ Wed, 29 May 2024 18:24:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82662 X-Men ’97 on Disney+ managed to give fans a renewed interest in the X-franchise—specifically the one from the 90s, and Airbnb has decided to match it by decking out an entire mansion to look like Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, the X-mansion.

Thanks to Phase Zero, we have a guided walkthrough of the X-mansion, which promises a more affordable immersive experience than Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser. Check this out:

Marvel and Airbnb teamed up to bring the X-Mansion from X-Men ’97 and X-Men: The Animated Series to life in New York. The incredible location hosted Phase Zero’s Brandon Davis for a full tour, getting a look at every marvelous detail! From Wolverine and Jubilee’s bedrooms to the costumes worn by iconic mutants, the Danger Room for some training, and the War Room with Cerebro waiting inside… it’s an incredible location!

Though the official reveal did give us a look at the specific rooms in the mansion, the video actually gives us an idea of what to expect with an intereactive tour guide who tells you they’re also a mutant, and treats you like the next batch of X-Men.

We know that the houseis decked with all kinds of easter eggs, but it was cool that there’s actually a fully-animated orientation video with Jubilee explaining where the X-Men are and what rooms you can go into.

With Jenny Nicholson’s Star Wars Hotel video going viral (over 6 million views), a lot of people are now having a more critical look at these IP-fulled immersive spaces. You think Airbnb passed with flying colors?

Airbnb’s X-Mansion is now available for booking in New Castle, New York.

X-Men ’97: Animation Comes to Life in X-Mansion Reveal from Airbnb https://www.geekfeed.com/x-men-97-animation-comes-to-life-in-x-mansion/ Sun, 05 May 2024 14:02:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82213 X-Men ’97 has just kicked off their 3-part finale, and what better way for Airbnb to give fans a look at one of their Airbnb Icon locations—Professor Charles Xavier’s X-Mansion.

Check this out:

Here’s the official descripition:

As part of Airbnb Icons, renters can stay in the X-Mansion based on the animated series “X-Men ’97.” It features living spaces and recreation areas with traces of its mutant residents.

We’ve had a look at these themed houses before with IP like Batman and Barbie, and this mansion looks to be decked out to cater specifically to the animated X-Men fans.

Not only do we get iconic locations from the show like the Danger Room and the X-Men’s control room, but the entire mansion has also been stylized to look like a frame from the animated series, with the lines going all around the furniture and walls.

You’ll also notice that the photos are all animated as well, with some imagery coming from the rebooted show on Disney+. Die-hard fans will also know all about the Easter Eggs located in each of the rooms—like the photo of Scott and Jean that Wolverine was known to pine over.

We may not be getting a movie any time soon, but the X-Men are certainly back with this new series. With showrunner Beau DeMayo fired, we don’t know how long Marvel wants to to continue this reboot, but fans are definitely loving what DeMayo has delivered so far.

The Claws Come Out in Full Trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine https://www.geekfeed.com/full-trailer-for-deadpool-wolverine-released/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 10:30:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82066 Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was only teased in the first preview for Deadpool & Wolverine, but now we get to see him back at it with the latest trailer for the movie.

Check the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine out:

Though we know that Wade gets hired by the TVA to be ‘Marvel Jesus’, we also get a bit of background on this version of Logan. It does look like this Wolverine is the reason his world is dead and him teaming up with Deadpool will be his redemption arc.

Besides a lot of Logan, we also get a look at Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), who looks to be the main villain of the series. In the comics, Nova is Professor X’s ‘dark twin’ who Xavier tried to kill while they were in the womb together—no, seriously.

It looks like Nova is the one who runs this 20th Century Fox Marvel wasteland, and we get to see some discarded characters from early X-Men films including Lady Deathstrike (X-Men 2), Azazel (X-Men: First Class), and Callisto (X-Men: The Last Stand). Even when Nova is instroduced, we see her getting off of what some assume is Charles Xavier’s wheelchair.

Of course, we should also expect some references to non-Fox properties in Deadpool &  Wolverine. We get to see Alioth, the cloud monster at the end of time from Loki; and Nova’s base of operations looks to be the dead body of Giant/Ant-Man—something right out of Old Man Logan.

So far, a very obscure cameo-fest looks to be happening, but I am hoping that director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have a meaningful story in mind for Deadpool’s jump into the MCU. I’m just honestly hoping this doesn’t mean 10 more years of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine because I would love for someone else to finally take on the role.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to come into theaters on July 26.

X-Men ’97 Showrunner on How 9/11 Inspired the ‘Remember It’ Episode https://www.geekfeed.com/x-men-97-showrunner-on-the-remember-it-episode/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 07:50:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81917 SPOILER WARNING FOR X-MEN ’97 EPISODE ‘REMEMBER IT’

It’s no mystery that X-Men ’97 has been getting a lot of praise online, but the latest episode Remember It has got to be one of the biggest  moments in the entire show, killing off two principal characters alongside a whole genocide in the mutant nation of Genosha.

Though Marvel had fired him earlier, ex-showrunner Beau DeMayo had been coming out online to share some insight on the released episodes, and he says that the mutant genocide was a very personal story drawing inspiration from the events of the 9/11 attacks.

The world [back in the 90s] was a simple place of right and wrong, where questions about identity and social justice had relatively clear cut answers… Then 9/11 happened, and the world turned against itself.”

When it came to the character of Gambit, he said that the show was purposefully getting the audience to like him, so that when he dies, it’s supposed to mirror the experience of knowing someone who died in a huge tragedy. “If events like 9/11, Tulsa, Charlottesville, or Pulse Nightclub teach us anything, it’s that too many stories are often cut far too short.”

We don’t know where the show is headed yet, but fans are already praising just how seriously X-Men ’97 is taking its themes on prejudice and social justice—all while having the quips and action that you can expect from a comic book property.

For now, fans are still curious about how the show’s reception will affect DeMayo’s reputation, but there have been some fans calling to bring him back. I mean, it happened for James Gunn before. I’m just curious if Marvel knows something about DeMayo that we don’t.

Deadpool & Wolverine Promo Art Reveals Deadpool Corps and Wolvy Cowl https://www.geekfeed.com/deadpool-wolverine-art-reveals-deadpool-corps/ Thu, 11 Apr 2024 18:13:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81843 Marketing has been very sparse for Deadpool and Wolverine, but some promo images have been leaking online giving us a look at what more to expect from the movie.

Just in, some merch has come out revealing the members of the Deadpool Corps.—several variants of Deadpool from across the Multiverse including Dogpool, Headpool, Kidpool, and Babypool (albeit some glare is blocking him). We also get a better look at Wolverine’s classic cowl complete with the white eyes. Check this out:

https://twitter.com/shugah666/status/1776794348887080981

Based on what we know from the trailer, Deadpool will be hired by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) for some kind of mission. We don’t know exactly what they want him to do—or how Wolverine factors into this—but we are expecting a nostalgic romp of everything Marvel pre-MCU including characters from the original X-Men films as well as the spinoffs like Daredevil, Elektra, and Fantastic Four.

You think there’s room for Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider in this film?

With a release set for July, we may have to wait t abit more until we get a new trailer. With promos usually being released 4 months and 2 months before, it’s possible we could get a full official trailer with Hugh Jackman and the Deadpool Corps. Sometime before the month ends.

Admittedly, the MCU is not riding as high as it was before, but hopefully Deadpool & Wolverine will manage to bring the hype back to this franchise.

Catch Deadpool & Wolverine when they cut their way into theaters on July 26.

Marvel Rivals: Watch Official Announce of Marvel’s Overwatch Clone https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-rivals-marvels-overwatch-clone/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 11:08:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81721 Overwatch had established the gold standard for hero shooters (sorry, Team Fortress 2), and there have been several ‘clones’ over the years including Paladins and Valorant. Now Marvel and NetEase have teamed up to give us their own hero shooter, but this time with highly recognizable Marvel heroes and villains.

Check out the official reveal for Marvel Rivals:

Introducing Marvel Rivals, the premier Super Hero Team-based PVP Shooter!

Assemble your favorite Marvel characters and engage in 6v6 battles, utilizing brand-new Team-Up Skills in destructible locations from across the Marvel Multiverse!

The Closed Alpha test is coming this May!

The announce doesn’t really go into heavy details, but the game has been confirmed to be free-to-play, and we are expected to see more heroes added to the roster as time goes by. Though there is already an established roster of heroes and villains which include Iron Man, Hulk, Loki, and Magik, it’s also been confirmed that we’re also going to get Storm, Star-Lord, Mantis, Punisher, Magneto, and Scarlet Witch down the line.

Though you don’t need a story to enjoy a hero shooter game, NetEase does give us a backdrop for Rivals and how these heroes have found themselves tangling with each other:

Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown. Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

With Overwatch 2 currently getting bashed by the online community, a lot have been teasing that Rivals would be the game that would ‘murder’ OW2, but we’ll just have to wait and see. NetEase may be considered Blizzard’s rival, but they have been criticized for having too many microtransactions within their games. Even Overwatch 2 has already started pivoting their model to have all heroes come for free.

No official release date has been announced for Marvel Rivals, but the Closed Alpha is set to launch this May.

More 90s Marvel Animated Properties could be Revived Through X-Men ‘97 https://www.geekfeed.com/more-90s-marvel-could-be-revived-through-x-men-97/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 15:07:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81676 X-Men ’97 may have been caught in a snag when showrunner Beau DeMayo was fired right before the premiere, but reviews for the series have been sparkling, and the X-Men are back, bigger than ever.

With X-Men just being one of the bigger Marvel properties of the 90s, fans were wondering if other shows from that era were going to get a revival, and it just might be possible.

As per a Discord Q&A with insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Marvel is currently thinking of making a ‘90s Animated Universe’ which will be explored via X-Men ’97. When asked if there was a chance we could see the return of animated versions of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man, Perez replied:

There have been discussions about exploring a Marvel 90s animated universe, which would most likely be explored through X-Men ’97 at this time. There is potential for more projects to be developed within this universe, the most likely candidate being a sequel series to Spider-Man: The Animated Series, but this is still very early in development as an idea being tossed around.

For context, here’s the intro for 90s’ Spider-Man: The Animated Series:

With the original series having their own cameo appearances from other heroes, it’s very likely that X-Men ’97 could be doing the same thing—especially with how Marvel has been treating cameos in all their recent projects.

With another Spider-Man animated series in the works, I’m not sure if a revival of 90s Spider-Man would be a smart decision, but if it’s just a cameo appearance in X-Men ’97, I guess it wouldn’t feel like it was trying to overshadow the new Spider-Man show.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. For now, catch X-Men ’97 now streaming on Disney+.

Marvel has Fired the Showrunner of X-Men ‘97 https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-has-fired-the-showrunner-of-x-men-97/ Fri, 15 Mar 2024 02:36:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81492 A lot of Marvel fans were excited this March for the premiere of the revival of the animated X-Men series from the ‘90s, but the show has suddenly been caught in a shocking snag.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has suddenly fired X-Men ’97 creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo. His company e-mail had been deactivated, and his social media has been deleted. Marvel has not released any official reason for why DeMayo had been fired, but the cast and crew of his series was informed that he would no longer be attached to the project.

It’s very surprising that Marvel should fire DeMayo now as we’re only weeks away from the premiere of the series. DeMayo was already said to have scheduled multiple interviews for the coming weeks, and there were even plans for him to attend the Hollywood premiere.

For now, fans can only speculate on why DeMayo was fired. Some would cite creative differences—which is the usual reason—but DeMayo has been working with Marvel for a while, having written for Moon Knight and the upcoming reboot of Blade. Why would they suddenly decide to stop collaborating with him.

I guess all we really have to do is wait. A lot of fans are still anxious about the upcoming reboot; maybe it’s quality when it releases will give us an idea of what the rift between the studio and the showrunner could be about.

X-Men ’97 arrives on Disney+ on March 20.

X-Men: Giancarlo Esposito Reacts to Fancasting of Him and Denzel Washington as Professor X and Magneto https://www.geekfeed.com/esposito-fancasting-as-professor-x-and-magneto/ Thu, 14 Mar 2024 11:08:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81480 We know that Marvel Studios is on their way to rebooting the X-Men franchise for the MCU, and a lot of fans have been curious about who they would cast to be the next face of mutants onscreen.

One popular fancast has been Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) for Professor X and Denzel Washington (Equalizer) as Magneto. We don’t know what Washington has to say about the casting yet, but Esposito gives his two cents.

Talking to the podcast Fade to Black (via @DiscussingFilm), Esposito was asked about the fancasting, to which he replied it ‘would be great.’ But he also adds that he would want his Professor X to be able to walk around. He comments, “The physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don’t feel that old & I don’t like to sit that much.”

Admittedly, a lot of fans are against casting someone other than a Jewish actor to play Magneto in any adaptation, but some think that, in order to keep the character relevant, they could update his origin so that he experiences his trauma during the Civil Rights movement rather than WWII—comparing Magneto and Charles to the dynamic between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King.

I definitely understand both sides of the argument around the characters’ ethnicity, but personally I do think that they should update these characters to reflect modern times. Otherwise, Magneto would just have to get ridiculously old in the films—or have to be a time traveller.

We’ll just have to wait and see what Marvel does. In the meantime, no release date has been set for the next X-Men movie, but Deadpool & Wolverine comes out July 26.

X-Men First Class Director Says Deadpool 3 will “Save” MCU https://www.geekfeed.com/x-men-first-class-deadpool-3-will-save-mcu/ Sat, 03 Feb 2024 15:38:24 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80875 It’s no mystery that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going on a slump since the release of Avengers: Endgame, and after the box office underperformance of The Marvels, everyone is just wondering what will bring success back to Marvel Studios.

What’s interesting is, Matthew Vaughn, the director behind X-Men: First Class and the Kingsman franchise, thinks that the upcoming Deadpool movie from Shawn Levy is going to be the very project that will restore a bit of fire to the MCU. Talking to BroBible.com, Vaughn shares:

“The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable. That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life. I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

We don’t know exactly what to expect with Deadpool 3, but it is rumored that the movie will neatly close the Marvel Fox cinematic universe after the disappointing reception of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Not only are we expecting to see Hugh Jackman come back as Logan, but the movie is also said to be bringing back pre-MCU Marvel characters like Elektra (Jennifer Garner) and maybe someone from the first Fantastic Four movies (fingers crossed for Chris Evans’ Human Torch returning).

With the film having had to delay shooting thanks to the SAG-AFTRA Strike, everyone is hopeful that Deadpool 3 will manage to make its July deadline this year. Hopefully we get a trailer soon.

Deadpool 3 is set to come out in theaters on July 26.

Leaked Image from Deadpool 3 Reveals Wolverine with Comic-Accurate Cowl https://www.geekfeed.com/deadpool-3-reveals-wolverine-comic-accurate-cowl/ Wed, 24 Jan 2024 15:41:01 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80695 It was last July when we got our first look at Hugh Jackman in the yellow comic-accurate Wolverine costume, and though we haven’t seen the cowl in official photos yet, some leaked promo images have revealed the final look—complete with white eyes.

Check this out:

We don’t know when the next official reveal for Deadpool 3 is going to be, but rumor has it that Wolverine is brought back as a recruit for a multiversal army that the TVA is going to be assembling; and it’s going to contain the prime versions of every Marvel hero.

Fans will know that Jackman’s Wolverine dies in Logan, but it’s said that the film will actually address this, and the Logan that we’re following in this movie is a variant that comes from a universe where the X-Men are all wearing comic-accurate costumes.

Besides Logan, there have also been Deadpool variants spotted on set. We know that Dogpool is going to be part of the film, but Reynolds has also been spotted with a long wig in a top-knot—possibly a Wade Wilson that has the mutant powers, but never had to undergo the procedure that permanently deformed him.

The movie is also said to be including appearances from other non-MCU heroes like Jennifer Garner’s Elektra as well as other vets from the older X-Men films including Halle Berry (Storm) and James Marsden (Cyclops).

Then again, those are just rumors, so we’ll just have to wait and see until the film releases to find out who really shows up.

Fingers crossed we get Chris Evans returning as the Human Torch. He already did that Free Guy cameo, so what’s one more small cameo in a Ryan Reynolds project?

Deadpool 3 is set to release in theaters July 26.

Insomniac Addresses Massive Wolverine Leak and Game’s Future https://www.geekfeed.com/insomniac-addresses-wolverine-leak-and-future/ Wed, 03 Jan 2024 09:35:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80225 Insomniac may have been at a high with the successful release of Spider-Man 2 around the fall, but the studio met the holidays with some distressing news in the form of a massive leak that gave fans a look at the next decade of their projects in development including the upcoming Wolverine game and Venom solo project.

A lot of fans have started getting worried that the studio will have to end up pulling the game after what’s been revealed, but now Insomniac has come out with a statement addressing the leaks and any upcoming future projects. Here’s the post:

Take note, besides a look at what’s been worked on, the leak had also revealed the personal information of current and former employees at Insomniac. Despite this though, the studio has assured fans that the game will be pushing forward. “Like Logan… Insomniac is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans,” reads the statement.

Other games that have been revealed in the leak include a solo Venom game dubbed Lethal Protector, the next Spider-Man title, as well as full-on X-Men game. Seeing that a lot of the leaks are just from early development, it was unrealistic to expect to see anything hyper-polished, but so far the reception has been mixed with some excited for a Wolverine game, and other wondering why the traversal looks a lot like Arkham Asylum.

If anything, I just hope the studio will manage to enhance their cybersecurity so they won’t be able to get attacked like this again.

No release date has been set for Wolverine, but Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 is now playable for PS5.
