Check out the trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon:

Here’s the official description for the film:

A woman (Reese Witherspoon) planning her sister’s perfect wedding and the father (Will Ferrell) of a young bride-to-be find out that they are double booked for their destination wedding at a remote resort on an island off the Carolina coast. When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues and our cast of characters begin to face their own insecurities learning more about themselves.

It’s worth noting that the film is being directed by Nicholas Stoller who is best known for helming Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors (among others).Though his films can get all kinds of wacky, we should always expect there to be some kind of heart to the movie—which is a fantastic hat trick that Stoller always manages to pull off.

As for Ferrell and Witherspoon, both have branched off to do more serious projects recently, but a lot of their success has been rooted in comedy; and it’s great to see both of them going at it again.

Besides the leads, the movie has also brought in some great comedy actors like Jack McBrayer, Jimmy Tatro, Leanne Morgan, and Celia Watson. We also have Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner as the actual brides of the film.

Catch You’re Cordially Invited when it premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 30, 2025.

Megamind Series Coming in 2024 https://www.geekfeed.com/megamind-series-coming-out-in-2024/ Mon, 01 Jan 2024 13:12:02 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80271 Megamind and Despicable Me came out around the same time, and despite people’s love for the former, it was ultimately Gru and his Minions that became a worldwide franchise. Megamind remains a cult classic for a lot of Gen-Z and Millenials, and we have an update on the defender of Metro City.

According to Discussing Film, a Megamind series is set to release in 2024 (alongside the next Despicable Me movie). Here’s the post:

We don’t have that much detail on the Megamind series, but it does say that Megamind will be on a journey to become a “social media influencer”. Already a lot of fans thought that the premise is going to be terrible, but people who actually understand the character of Megamind know that this pretty much tracks for him, what with his love for showmanship and flare.

With the return being a series though, it’s possible that none of the principal actors would be returning for the show like Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, or David Cross. Then again, Jack Black did come back to voice Po again in the most recent Kung Fu Panda animated series, so maybe Ferrell could do the same for Megamind?

It’s kind of a shame that Megamind got overlooked because a lot of audience members thought it looked too similar to Despicable Me. If anything, Megamind can be considered as the more mature story, and it has more appeal to adults compared to Despicable Me which mostly focuses on its kid demographic.

No release date has been set for the Megamind series.

First Teaser for Barbie Centers on Margot Robbie https://www.geekfeed.com/first-teaser-for-barbie-centers-on-margot-robbie/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 13:38:45 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72528 It was said that the first teaser for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was going to be a theater exclusive that screened ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water, but it looks like WB has decided everyone else could check it out online now.

Watch the first teaser for Barbie starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, and more:

So far, no plot has been revealed for the movie, but we do have a beginning that harkens to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey where we’re given the history lesson of Barbie being the first adult woman doll that girls could get that wasn’t a baby doll. We even see Robbie sporting the classic dress and hair that the first Barbie was released with.

Though WB wants to be mysterious about the movie’s plot, the rumor going around is that Robbie and Gosling are only playing one version of Barbie and Ken, and the movie will bring us to Barbieland which is populated by different versions of Barbie and Ken—all played by different actors.

The story is said to kick in when Barbie and Ken find themselves in the ‘real world’ and they will be chased down by the CEO of Mattel (Will Ferrell) who is trying to get them back to Barbieland and… make more Barbie toys, I guess?

It’s no mystery the film is expected to sell Barbie dolls, but with Gerwig at the helm working with a script from Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story), a lot of fans think that Barbie could be more than just a shameless cash grab.

Barbie releases on July 21, 2023—the same day that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer comes out.

Spirited Trailer has Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell Parodying A Christmas Carol https://www.geekfeed.com/spirited-trailer-parodies-a-christmas-carol/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 06:44:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71566 Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has been a tale told time and again, with Muppets, Patrick Stewart, or motion-capture animation with Jim Carrey. Now Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are teaming up for a modern twist on the classic tale.

Here’s the trailer for Spirited:

Here’s the official synopsis:

A musical version of the classic Christmas story by Charles Dickens. A miserly man who treats everyone around him with terrible selfishness finds himself on a fantastical adventure into the three phases of time: past, present, and future, in order to discover how he ended up so miserable and alone.

The movie comes from Sean Anders and John Morris who had worked with Ferrell on the Daddy’s Home films. While I am expecting some kind of cameo from Mark Wahlberg, I think that the film could be trying out the chemistry of Ferrell with another action star (but I guess Reynolds has made it clear that he’s pretty funny as well).

Though I am used to Ferrell doing the occasional musical number, I am curious about Reynolds. I don’t really expect him to sing, but I guess the point of the Scrooge role is that he’s more of the audience surrogate being presented with all these magical visions.

With Ferrell and Reynolds being comedy legends at this point, it’s a wonder how the two haven’t had any more collaborations before this movie.

Catch Spirited when it comes to Apple TV+ on Nov. 18. The film releases in theaters Nov. 11.

“Greta Gerwig has Done Something Special”: Margot Robbie on Barbie Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/gerwig-has-done-something-special-barbie-movie/ Wed, 03 Aug 2022 11:11:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70361 Margot Robbie has worked with some legendary directors from Martin Scorsese to Quentin Tarantino, so you should expect every movie that she’s cast in to be good. With Robbie set to star in the upcoming Barbie film, she hypes up the script written by director Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.

Talking to The Sun (via Culture Crave), Robbie urges fans to re-evaluate expectations when it comes to the Barbie movie. She says, “Whatever people expect the Barbie movie to be like, they need to totally re-think it because Greta Gerwig has done something special here”

While Barbie could have easily just been a toy promotion film like The LEGO Movie, the inclusion of Gerwig and Baumbach has a lot of fans curious about the movie. With Little Women Gerwig has proven herself to find a unique voice when it comes to adaptations; and Baumbach is best known for his authentic dialogue and dramas—what could he possibly have to say in a Barbie film.

My guess is, we would actually get to see a deep-dive into Barbie as an icon and what she really means to modern women. Sure, she was considered to be the poster child of the ‘independent woman’, but she has recently been criticized for promoting unhealthy beauty standards. What will Barbie have to say about that?

The movie is set to come out later in 2023, so it could be a while before we get our first teaser. In the meantime, fans can just hype themselves up with leaked set photos of Robbie and Gosling in adorable costumes.

Barbie is set to hit theaters July 21, 2023.

Has the Plot for the Barbie Movie been Leaked? https://www.geekfeed.com/has-the-plot-for-the-barbie-movie-been-leaked/ Mon, 04 Jul 2022 06:43:55 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=69029 Curiosity about the Barbie movie has been growing ever since set photos of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have come out, but Mattel is yet to give us the official synopsis for the film. Even if that is the case, we may have gotten the description leaked online.

Take not, nothing official has been revealed yet, but it does go in line with a lot of rumors about the film like Will Ferrell being the CEO of Mattel and that there are multiple versions of Barbie and Ken. I guess my speculation falls apart when I guessed that Barbie and Ken had no idea about the other versions of themselves—here it looks like they’ve been aware this whole time, and it will be the real world they won’t know about.

I’ll admit, it does sound like a fun premise for a kids’ movie, and it has that meta-element to its story that’s kind of akin to Disney’s Enchanted which was a love letter of sorts to the classic Disney princesses. Even if she isn’t real, Barbie is still an icon, and I’m very curious what direction Greta Gerwig wants to take the film—especially since Barbie has recently been critiqued for her promotion of unhealthy body standards. There’s even some groups that say that Barbie should have nipples. #FreeTheNipple, am I right?

Barbie comes to the big screen on July 21, 2023.

Set Photos Reveal First Look at Will Ferrell in the Barbie Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/will-ferrell-barbie-movie-set-photos/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 03:38:55 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=66724 Everyone has been buzzing over Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in set photos from Barbie, but we’ve yet to see more of her cast mates in the film. The great thing is, we now have a look at Will Ferrell in the film, and it looks like he’s a business mogul out to get Barbie.

Check these photos of Ferell out:

For context, some new set photos have Barbie and Ken going around in roller skates, and it’s possible that Ferrell in this scene—in typical cartoon villain fashion— is going to be chasing them down in skates as well.

No official details have been revealed about Ferrell’s character in the film, but a rumor is going around that he is playing the CEO of a toy company that may or may not be Mattel. If you ask me, it feels like a mix of two of his previous roles, one being President Business from the LEGO Movie and the other being fashion mogul Mugatu from Zoolander.

Hopefully we get to see Ferrell in some wacky outfits besides this suit with the pink shirt.

Barbie is set for a release late next year, so we’ll have to wait for a while before we can get our first trailer. With Barbie being such a huge icon, I bet Mattel would want to start teasing the film officially before the year ends. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Catch Barbie when it hits theaters on July 21, 2023.

Barbie Movie Gives First Look at Margot Robbie in Her Pink Convertible https://www.geekfeed.com/barbie-movie-gives-first-look-at-margot-robbie-in-her-pink-convertible/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 16:35:04 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65027 Barbie isn’t even a real person, but she’s considered to be one of the biggest modern feminist icons to children all over the world. Now she’s ready to make the jump to live-action and we have our first look at Margot Robbie as the lead of Barbie.

Check this picture of Robbie out:

Besides Robbie, the movie also includes Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Simu Liu, Hari Nef, and America Ferrera. Will Ferrell has also joined the cast, and it’s rumored that he’ll be playing the big boss of a toy company that may or may not be Mattel.

It’s actually a great bit of meta-casting that they hired Robbie to play Barbie for the film. Besides Robbie being drop-dead gorgeous, she’s also quite the superwoman offscreen, and has been producing some of her own projects. With Greta Gerwig at the helm, we should expect Barbie to have some interesting commentary about feminism. While Barbie is known for embodying the ideal modern woman, the doll has been a source of criticism for promoting unrealistic body standards among children which have carried over to adulthood.

We don’t have a breakdown of the story yet, but I hope we get something kid-friendly but meaningful like The LEGO Movie. While it’s great that we get to have Barbie have some social commentary, I think we should always keep the core audience—kids—in mind.

Catch Barbie when it hits theaters July 21, 2023.

Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd Team Up in New Trailer for ‘The Shrink Next Door’ https://www.geekfeed.com/will-ferrell-and-paul-rudd-team-up-in-new-trailer-for-the-shrink-next-door/ Mon, 12 Jul 2021 04:40:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60490 Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are comedy giants who have moved on to bigger things since Anchorman, but now the two are teaming up again for a new series on Apple TV.

Check out the first trailer for The Shrink Next Door:

Here’s the official description:

Inspired by the true story of Marty (Ferrell) and the therapist who turned his life around…then took it over. When he first meets Dr. Ike (Rudd), Marty just wants to get better at boundaries. Over 30 years, he’ll learn all about them—and what happens when they get crossed.

Besides Ferrell and Rudd, the show also stars Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), and Casey Wilson (Black Monday).

Ferrell also told EW about the show:

“It’s so relatable in a way — obviously it has special meaning for anyone who has done any amount of therapy… When we talked to [the real] Marty about this, it was a perfect storm of someone in a vulnerable place who had never really sought this type of counsel before and decided to give it a shot, and got some really effective temporary relief right out of the gate and support in a way that he’d never felt and thought, ‘Let’s keep going. I’m going to double down on this whole thing.’ And then it was the point of no return. So that whole kind of seduction of it at first, and then just the rapid ringing around the toilet bowl before you go down was the part that really jumped out to me.”

The story of a co-dependent shrink and patient relationship is admittedly pretty crazy, and though the series kind of looks like a drama, it’s still being described as an ‘existential therapy comedy series.’ While I’m sure there are going to be some laughs with Ferrell and Rudd, I won’t be surprised if things take a dark turn or get intensely serious.

Catch The Shrink Next Door when it premieres on Apple TV on Nov. 12; besides that, you can also check out the podcast of the same name.
