Though no new trailer was released during The Game Awards, director Amy Hennig (Uncharted) does reveal what to expect from the game when it eventually comes out. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Hennig says about Rise of Hydra:

“It led us to do a bunch of interesting things… one of which was to not only tell a story with a young Steve Rogers who’s still trying to find his feet, as opposed to the more seasoned guy that we’ve seen in a lot of the films. It also let us introduce a new Black Panther of 1943.”

With the Indiana Jones game being such a hit with critics this year, it does seem like Rise of Hydra is also going to be a globe-trotting adventure that would also explore several locations—one of them being the secret nation of Wakanda. Hennig continues:

“Wakanda at this point in time is hidden away from the outside world and protected by this impenetrable jungle,” she explains. “They are non-interventionist, but events transpire that pull them into the conflict. They have to protect their interests. The world is getting smaller. No satellites yet, but there will be soon. You can shoot down planes that maybe want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?”

Hennig goes on to explain the conflict between Black Panther and Captain America, who seem to be teaming up to face a common enemy. She says they are “confronting the same enemies and they’re concerned about the same events that are transpiring, but they’re initially almost working against each other. Good people have to work together to overcome evil. If you separate, then you’re not going to succeed.”

Hennig had directed the first three Uncharted games, so it can be easy to guess that Rise of Hydra is going to be a cinematic action-platformer. Of course, she could go a different direction with this game, but the Marvel brand does promise spectacle, and why else would they hire Hennig if they weren’t expecting that from this game?

No release date has been set for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, but it is expected to launch sometime next year.

Naughty Dog Unveils Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet https://www.geekfeed.com/naughty-dog-intergalactic-the-heretic-prophet/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 14:50:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85610 Naughty Dog has come a long way from Crash Bandicoot with hyper-realistic titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us; and thanks to The Game Awards, they’ve just unveiled their newest incoming IP—Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Check out the trailer:

The official description reads:

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the newest franchise in development for the PlayStation 5 console from Naughty Dog, the studio behind acclaimed series like The Last of Us and UNCHARTED. Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.

Though sci-fi properties are dime-a-dozen nowadays, Intergalactic is very specific in that it makes use of retro sci-fi—in that everything is kind of a blend of the future if it was imagined in the 80s. There’s a lot of analog technology in Jordan’s ship, and you can even see her making use of CDs.

It’s said that the game is inspired heavily by sci-fi properties like Akira and Cowboy Bebop, and even director Neil Druckmann states that it’s the ‘deepest’ Naughty Dog has ever went when it comes to gameplay.

The cast is led by Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and also includes the likes of Troy Baker, Kumail Nanjiani, and Tony Dalton. It’s also worth mentioning that the music is coming from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, members of Nine Inch Nails and recent providers for the score of Tron: Ares and Challengers.

No release date has been set for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but fans are hoping the game comes out sometime in 2025 for the PS5.

Lucasfilm Games Announces Project from Uncharted Director https://www.geekfeed.com/lucasfilm-games-announces-project-from-uncharted-director/ Thu, 21 Apr 2022 17:18:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64945 It looks like the cancelled Lucasfilm Games project Ragtag could be making a comeback.

Just in, Lucasfilm Games has announced that they will be teaming up with Skydance New Media for a collaboration on a ‘narrative-driven, action-adventure game’. What’s more, they will be bringing along Uncharted director Amy Hennig to helm the project.

Hennig said about landing the job:

“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly… I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”

To find out why the involvement of Hennig is such a huge deal for some fans, it’s because she was actually set to be the creative director of Visceral Games’ Project Ragtag — an action-adventure game that was announced way back in E3 2016. Ragtag was then cancelled in 2019, but with Hennig back onboard, some fans are hoping that the game could actually get back into gear.

Ever since the establishment of Lucasfilm Games, we’ve been getting more and more Star Wars titles connected to studios that each have their own creative take on the franchise. While some EA games like Fallen Order and Battlefront II are still pretty impressive, it was kind of clear that the studio didn’t really want to invest too much on the Star Wars IP.

Moving forward though, it looks like Star Wars has a bright future in games. I can’t wait to see what Skydance has cooking in their studio.

Watch the First 10 Minutes of the Uncharted Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-the-first-10-minutes-of-the-uncharted-movie/ Wed, 30 Mar 2022 15:06:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64631 Tom Holland may have torn up the box office with Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he starred in another Sony blockbuster with the Uncharted film. Just in, Sony has officially released the first 10 minutes of the movie, and it offers some backstory between Nathan Drake and his brother Sam.

The movie immediately starts guns-blazing with the stunts, and we get to watch Nate trying to climb back into a plane mid-air before being caught before he falls. This then transitions into a moment between a younger Nathan Drake and his brother, and it’s a scene that’s taken right out of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The entire clip kind of ends remarkably, with the reveal that the adult Drake works as a bartender.

While the action set pieces are no doubt amazing, I think it was kind of misguided to have Tom Holland star as Drake. If anything, he’s just a powered-down version of Peter Parker; I mean, they didn’t even think of changing his hair to match the video game character at least.

For now, it’s unclear whether we’re going to get an Uncharted sequel. I mean, reviews were divisive, and the movie kind of came out during the resurgence of the Omicron variant. Hopefully we get some kind of announcement soon, but personally, I’m just fine watching Holland be Spider-Man. They can wait a few years to give us a more adult Drake, if you ask me.

Treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan recruits street-smart Nathan Drake to help him recover a 500-year-old lost fortune amassed by explorer Ferdinand Magellan. What starts out as a heist soon becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada can get his hands on it. If Sully and Nate can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure — but only if they can learn to work together.

Uncharted hits digital on April 26 and Blu-Ray/4K UHD on May 10.

Watch the Plane Fight in the Upcoming Uncharted Film https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-the-plane-fight-in-the-upcoming-uncharted-film/ Wed, 05 Jan 2022 14:19:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63338 Right after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is set to drop another Tom Holland-fuelled adventure with Uncharted. The movie is set to to come out in February, and we have a new clip featuring Nathan Drake (Holland) fighting for his life on the back of a plane.

Watch the plane fight scene from Uncharted down here:

The Uncharted scene is essentially an expansion of the setpiece we’ve seen in the trailers, with Drake trying not to fall to his death as a stream of cargo is steadily ejected out of the plane. It’s a scene right out of the Uncharted games, and is very much expected when it comes to Drake’s adventures; no doubt we’ll be getting a lot more of this in the film.

I guess I just find it weird that Uncharted had to cast Holland. Besides the age issue, him playing one of the biggest superheroes on screen kind of messes with the action scenes in a meta way. Essentially, the clip just feels like a Spider-Man scene, but Peter Parker can’t use his powers. At some point, I was expecting Holland to shoot a web at the plane—he does do that classic superhero pose before he’s hit by the car though.

If anything, the movie still has potential, and hopefully by the time the movie gets kicking, fans will have shaken off that “Tom Holland is Spider-Man” feeling. You’d think Sony would just wait longer to release the film, but as it stands, Uncharted has already had a rocky road behind-the-scenes, what with multiple director changes and delays.

For now, Uncharted is set to come to theaters on Feb. 18.

Star Wars Battlefront II Star Confirms Involvement with Skydance’s Marvel Game https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-battlefront-ii-star-confirms-involvement-with-skydances-marvel-game/ Sat, 06 Nov 2021 05:10:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62256 Janina Gavankar had played the star of DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront II, and though fans are still waiting for her Iden Versio to make her live-action debut, it looks like Gavankar will be working with Marvel with their upcoming game.

On her Twitter, Gavankar has confirmed that she is working on the Marvel title coming from Skydance New Media and Amy Hennig. Here’s the post:

While Skydance’s gaming division may be relatively new, it’s Hennig’s involvement that has fans tickled about the upcoming Marvel game. Hennig is best known for her work as the creative director of the Uncharted games, and seeing as how cinematic and spectacular Nathan Drake’s adventures turned out, we should expect no less from a game based on the most successful movie franchise of all time.

Hennig had this to say when the game was announced:

“The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

We don’t know who Gavankar could play in the game, but she could be anyone from a new character to an established hero. Seeing as she made a fine protagonist with Iden in Battlefront II, I’m hoping that she actually shines in a narrative-driven story with Hennig at the helm.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

No release date has been set for Skydance’s Marvel game, but hopefully we get the big reveal sometime in 2022. In the meantime, you can catch Gavankar in Star Wars Battlefront II, now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Tom Holland Stars in First Trailer for Uncharted Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/tom-holland-stars-in-first-trailer-for-uncharted-movie/ Fri, 22 Oct 2021 16:08:02 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62105 A lot of fans are excited to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man return to theaters this December with No Way Home, but Sony has another Holland-fuelled film to promote with Uncharted.

Watch the Uncharted trailer here:

The film is said to be a prequel with Holland playing a younger Nathan Drake as he gets swept into the world of treasure-hunting and tomb-raiding. In the movie is also Sully (Mark Wahlberg) who is Drake’s long-time colleague and friend.

If you’ve played Uncharted, you’ll know that the games are already pretty cinematic; so naturally the film would have to step-up its game. If anything, the scene where Drake is hanging off the back of a plane is already straight out of Uncharted 3, and we should expect more of these stunts to happen in the film.

While video game adaptations are notoriously bad, the direct involvement of PlayStation Productions makes me think that this film will go hand-in-hand with the games. With adult Drake’s story finally over, hopefully we have some more fun adventures with the younger version that Holland is playing.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

Uncharted hits theaters on Feb. 18, 2022.
