A lot of fans are wondering when it would be getting the reboot/sequel treatment, and director Robert Zemeckis says he’s not up for it—at least if he’s directing.

Talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Variety), Zemeckis revealed that Universal has been badgering him about a fourth Back to the Future movie, to which he says he isn’t interested. “You know, we have to say, ‘There are different things that might work.’ Something like that, you know? But to remake the movie or to suggest that there’s a ‘Back to the Future 4,’ it just isn’t in the cards,” said Zemeckis.

What Zemeckis would love to tackle though, is a musical. Last year saw the premiere of Back to the Future: The Musical on Broadway, and has since been considered a great companion piece to the original movie. Zemeckis explained, “I would like to do the ‘Back to the Future: The Musical’ [movie]. I would love to do that… I think that would be great. I floated that out to the folks at Universal. They don’t get it. So, [there’s] nothing I can do.”

With Zemeckis being so protective of Back to the Future, I have a bad feeling that Universal is just waiting for him to die before they can start developing a reboot; but I think the movie has aged pretty well, and the way that franchises like Ghostbusters have kind of leaned on the nostalgia train, I think it’s fine that nobody touch BTTF for now.

In the meantime, watch out for Zemeckis other time travel movie Here now in theaters.

Here: Tom Hanks and Robin Wright Reunite for Another Experimental Robert Zemeckis Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/here-tom-hanks-and-robin-wright-reunite/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 14:42:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83070 Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are probably best known for being the lead couple in Forrest Gump, and the two will once again be reuniting with director Robert Zemeckis for another experimental film called Here.

According to Vanity Fair, the story is said to take place in only one location with a fixed camera angle that will not move or zoom in. Instead, we’re going to get glimpses of things from different eras and where they were in the actual space that the movie is set in.

The movie is actually an adaptation of a 2014 graphic novel from Richard McGuire, and it should give fans an idea of what to expect when it comes to the movie’s storytelling technique. You can check it out here.

The story of here is said to take place around the course of a 100 years, and though the living room is the main setting for the film, we’ll be able to see the space even before a house was built in it, and when Native American tribes would occupy the space. The movie is said to tell the story of multiple families who had occupied the space, but one of the main arcs will be that of Richard (Hanks) and Margaret (Wright) who will have lived their whole lives in the home.

Other members of the cast include Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, Ophelia Lovibond, and Gwilym Lee.

Admittedly, Zemeckis has been criticized for putting too much focus on technical milestones as compared to actually telling a story, but it does seem like Here has a very interesting angle when it comes to the narrative it wants to sell.

Sure, there are some doubts when it comes to the use of AI and de-aging actors, but I think that’s all a necessary part in pulling off the film’s visual language. Then again, I’m just speculating; until we get the first trailer, all we can do is guess.

Catch Here when it releases in theatres on Nov. 15.

Asteroid City: How Wes Anderson Built a Small Town for the Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/asteroid-city-a-small-town-built-for-the-movie/ Sat, 24 Jun 2023 17:24:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77417 June has a lot of huge blockbusters with films like Transformers and The Flash, but if none of that is to your preference, you can always check out the upcoming movie from modern auteur Wes Anderson called Asteroid City.

Anderson and his team actually built a huge set for the town, and thanks to Kodak, we have an in-depth look at just how everything was put together. Check this out:

Though Wes Anderson’s style has always been apparent with his movies, it looks like his most recent films have been the one to get more and more stylish, with Asteroid City taking place completely in a huge set.

Like any piece of Anderson’s work, the set does look interesting, and with all the symmetry and colors popping, you can bet that the movie is going to provide some much-needed respite from all the big comic book films that have been coming out during the month of June.

Despite the critical praise for The French Dispatch, a lot of fans considered it to be one of the harder Anderson movies to swallow. Hopefully Asteroid City will offer that mass appeal that will bring in a much wider audience.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Asteroid City is set to release in theaters on June 16.

Watch 3 New Clips from Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City https://www.geekfeed.com/3-new-clips-from-wes-andersons-asteroid-city/ Wed, 24 May 2023 14:46:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76918 It was back in 2021 when Wes Anderson released The French Dispatch, and now the cinematic auteur is ready to take on what looks to be a sci-fi story with Asteroid City. The film is set to release next month, and we have a couple of clips that give us a good feel of the movie.

Check these out:

We can’t really piece together the whole story of the movie with the clips, but it does look like the characters will be forced to quarantine in the location of Asteroid City. Like any Wes Anderson movie, each character is also their own particular kind of kooky, and we have some interesting interactions between them with from Jason Schwartzman being a photographer, to Scarlett Johansson being a famous actress.

After the release of French Dispatch, it does look like Anderson is pushing the boundaries of his visual style. So far, it doesn’t seem like Asteroid City was as extensive as FD, but I’m still excited to see what kind of story Anderson is looking to tell.

Here’s the official synopsis:

ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. Synopsis: The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Watch out for Asteroid City when it comes to theaters on June 16.

Wes Anderson Tackles Sci-Fi in New Trailer for Asteroid City https://www.geekfeed.com/wes-anderson-tackles-sci-fi-in-asteroid-city/ Sat, 01 Apr 2023 17:25:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76088 Modern cinematic auteur Wes Anderson had released his last film The French Dispatch back in 2021, and now he’s ready to tackle a science-fiction story with his upcoming film Asteroid City.

Just in, we have a new star-studded trailer which includes the likes of Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Maya Hawke, and Jason Shcwartzman. Check this out:

Here’s the official synopsis:

ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. Synopsis: The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Admittedly, the trailer only focuses on a handful of stars in the film like Schwartzman, Johansson, and Hanks, but the credits list include several veterans of Anderson’s work including Willem Dafoe, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, and Jeffrey Wright; of course, we also have some new collaborators like Maya Hawke, Sophia Lillis, and Steve Carrell.

Like Christopher Nolan or Edgar Wright, Anderson is one of the few directors that manage to turn heads on a project just because he’s attached to the helm. With Marvel and other blockbusters currently dominating the market, it’s great that this year we’re going to be getting a new story from Anderson—and this time leaning into his version of science fiction–something he’s barely touched on before.

Asteroid City comes to theaters on June 16.

Wish Upon a Star in New Trailer for Pinocchio https://www.geekfeed.com/wish-upon-a-star-in-new-trailer-for-pinocchio/ Mon, 29 Aug 2022 17:21:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70762 Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio may be coming out this December, but Disney is going to be releasing their live-action adaptation of the animated movie next month. Just in, we have a new trailer that finally gives us a look at Pinocchio the puppet as well as the other characters.

Check tte trailer for Pinocchio out here:

Besides Pinocchio, the movie is also bringing back several other characters from the animated film like the Fox and the Cat. Of course, there’s also the evil puppeteer Stromboli. They even brought back Geppetto’s pets like Figaro the cat and Cleo the goldfish.

Speaking of Geppetto, Tom Hanks looks absolutely great in costume, and he feels very much like the Geppetto we got in the animated version. I guess when you have Robert Zemeckis at the helm, he’s definitely going to find a way to put Hanks in the movie—then again, he seems pretty perfect for the part. I mean, if he can play modern-day TV dad Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, he can play one of the more recognizable fantasy dads of all time.

Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

Pinocchio comes to Disney+ on Sept. 8.

Amazon Drops New Trailer for A League of Their Own Reboot https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-a-league-of-their-own-reboot/ Sat, 30 Jul 2022 16:02:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70315 Back in the 90s, Tom Hanks and Geena Davis had captured the hearts of audiences with A League of Their Own, and now Amazon Prime Video wants to capture that same magic of ‘women playing sport that was exclusively for men’ with a new generation.

Watch the official trailer for the reboot of A League of Their Own with stars Abbi Jacobson, Nick Offerman, and Chante Adams:

The short tagline reads: Comedy series about the WWII All-American professional women’s baseball league.

Though the series looks to be telling the same underdog story of women getting into professional baseball, the new League goes another mile by addressing the racial climate at the time. Several POC characters have been cast in lead roles, and it’s also said that their being allowed in the team is also met with several realistic racist hurdles.

That being said, the series is still expected to be comedy, so we should still walk into the show looking for some laughs from some very talented comediennes.

Though this is a reboot of the hit League of Their Own, we should also expect an appearance from some stars of the original. While I think Madonna is a long shot, I think it would be great if we could see Geena Davis or Rosie O’Donnell in some guest roles—a passing of the torch, if you will.

Catch A League of Their Own when it premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 12.

Tom Hanks Stars in New Trailer for the Live-Action Pinocchio https://www.geekfeed.com/tom-hanks-stars-in-new-trailer-for-the-live-action-pinocchio/ Wed, 01 Jun 2022 08:40:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65427 The Disney live-action adaptation machine continues to chug, and Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks have teamed up to bring to life the classic Pinocchio. A new trailer just dropped for the film, and it gives us a look at some classic characters like Geppetto (Tom Hanks), Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Ervo).

Watch the trailer for Pinocchio down here:

Here’s the official description:

Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana (and her marionette Sabina), Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

For a trailer about Pinocchio, we actually see only very little of the character in the trailer. If anything, they’re staying faithful to the design of the puppet from the original film, and it’s going to be exciting to see how he comes to life on the big screen.

Admittedly, though the live-action Disney remakes have been successes at the box office, they have been bombs when it comes to critics. We don’t know how Pinocchio will get treated (especially since it’s going straight to streaming), but with Zemeckis’ and Hanks’ track record over the decades, I think we could be in for something special.

Pinocchio is set to come out straight to Disney+ on Sept. 8.

Tom Hanks Lives in the Post-Apocalypse in Apple’s Finch https://www.geekfeed.com/tom-hanks-lives-in-the-post-apocalypse-in-apples-finch/ Tue, 21 Sep 2021 14:27:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61590 We’ve watched Tom Hanks get stuck on a deserted island before, but what if he got stuck on a deserted planet? Apple TV just dropped the first trailer for the Hanks-fuelled sci-fi movie Finch, and it looks pretty great.

Watch the trailer for Finch here

Here’s the official plot description:

Tom Hanks is Finch, a man who embarks on a moving and powerful journey to find a new home for his unlikely family—his beloved dog and a newly created robot—in a dangerous and ravaged world.

The movie is directed by Miguel Sapochnik who is best known for his work on Game of Thrones. While GoT’s final season wasn’t the most well-received, Sapochnik still gets credit for fantastic, action-packed episodes like Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards.

Besides Hanks, the film also stars Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) as Jeff. Though the movie is titled Finch, I have a feeling that Hanks is going to die at some point in the film, as the robot’s prime directive (based on another description) is to protect the life of Finch’s dog.

Aesthetically, the movie looks a lot like Ridley Scott’s The Martian where a tech-savvy protagonist has to survive a harsh planet. Either way, Hanks is always a delight onscreen, and with his work on Cast Away, he’s essentially the face of “lonely survivor” films; top that off with Sapochnik’s reputation, and we should expect a fantastic film.

Finch hits Apple TV on Nov. 5.

Wes Anderson Casts Scarlett Johansson in New Film https://www.geekfeed.com/wes-andersons-next-movie-casts-black-widow-star-scarlett-johansson/ Wed, 18 Aug 2021 15:53:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61059 Wes Anderson continues to collect some top talent for his next film. News has just come out that Anderson had landed The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie, and now he’s landed an ex-MCU veteran to join his cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has joined the steadily growing cast of Anderson’s next movie. We don’t have any plot or roles revealed, but we do know that the film will be shooting in Spain.

Besides Robbie, the cast also includes the likes of Tom Hanks and Rupert Friend; previous Anderson collaborators who will also be in the film include Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray.

While Anderson is already busy putting together his cast for this upcoming film, a lot of fans are still curious about The French Dispatch which had been delayed due to the pandemic and is now looking to come out to general audiences this October. With Dispatch looking to already push Anderson’s unique style to the limit, it’s going to be interesting to see what’s in store for his next movie. Is he going to be pushing it even further with this next film, or could Anderson actually hold back and tell a simpler story this time?

With a star-studded cast though, I don’t expect Anderson to hold back.

A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional twentieth century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in “The French Dispatch Magazine”.

Catch The French Dispatch when it releases for general audiences on Oct. 22.

Margot Robbie Cast in Wes Anderson’s Next Film https://www.geekfeed.com/margot-robbie-cast-in-wes-andersons-next-film/ Fri, 13 Aug 2021 09:32:09 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61016 Everyone is still waiting for the wide release of Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, but the director has now started casting on his next movie. After casting the likes of Tom Hanks and other Anderson vets in the film, news has come out that the film has brought in one of the stars of the week’s biggest film, The Suicide Squad.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie has been cast in Anderson’s latest project. We don’t have any details about the project yet, but we do know that the movie is set to start shooting later this month.

Robbie is a newcomer when it comes to the pool of actors that Anderson has previously worked with. Besides Hanks, the film’s cast also includes Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, and Tilda Swinton.

Recently Robbie has been nabbing roles with a lot of high-end directors from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. She’s also proven to be a great producer herself and has also been cast in the Barbie film with Greta Gerwig at the helm.

We’ve yet to get any updates on Anderson’s next movie, but if anything, The French Dispatch looks to be Anderson taking his style to the limit, what with the framed narratives, symmetrical shots, and colorful sets. I think the star-studded cast which includes Timothee Chalamet, Frances McDormand, and Jeffrey Wright is also worth mentioning.

The French Dispatch gets a wide release on Oct. 22. You can catch Robbie in The Suicide Squad now available in theaters and on HBO Max.
