The animated series is set to premiere this December, and we have our first trailer featuring Rick Flagg Sr., the Bride, Dr. Phosphorus, Weasel, Nina Mazursky, and G.I. Robot. Check it:

Admittedly, it does feel like the lineup is pretty much like the misfits of Task Force X, but the difference with Creature Commandos is that every member isn’t considered a human.

It’s unclear what exactly the format of the series is yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more episodic this time around, with only small reveals for each character’s backstory with every episode. Though I would like one tight, connected narrative, I think that would just make the series feel more like Suicide Squad before it.

Having the team in different adventures every episode could offer a different feel for the property; plus it opens up the show for more creative storytelling. At least, that’s my opinion. I’m also willing to just wait and see what Gunn has in store for the show.

With Gunn taking over a wholesome property like Superman, it does seem like Creature Commandos is more of his violent, comedy wheelhouse. Then again, this looks to be the first major animated project with Gunn, so we’ll have to see just how it’s different from what he’s delivered before.

Catch Creature Commandos when it premieres on Max this coming Dec. 5.

James Gunn Marks Start of Production for Peacemaker Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/start-of-production-for-peacemaker-season-2/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 10:11:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81969 James Gunn may be working on Superman right now, but he’s making time to work on another pet project of his in the form of the Peacemaker series starring John Cena. Just in, Gunn has announced that production has started on the second season, and he teases us with a photo of himself on Peacemaker’s helmet.

Check this out:

A post shared by James Gunn (@jamesgunn)

We don’t have any details about the second season yet, but we do know that Peacemaker’s special team was disbanded by the end of the season. What is teased is that there’s still one of the butterfly aliens living with Peacemaker, and he’s still seeing his dad—which could mean that he could be sticking around to torment him for Season 2.

I guess that’s childhood trauma for you.

Though Peacemaker ended up being the surprise villain in The Suicide Squad, Gunn had given him a very fleshed out arc in his own series. Besides the fact that the hero is kind of a ridiculous manchild stuck in the 80s, he still has a very sympathetic backstory, and John Cena absolutely sells the character.

Not to mention the rest of the cast is also fun to watch. Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Danielle Brooks really bounced off well with Cena, and hopefully they bring everyone back for the second season.

Fingers crossed wealso get some cameos from other DC heroes that are now part of the new canon.

No release date has been announced for Peacemaker Season 2, but you can watch out for it on Max soon.

James Gunn Starts New Year by Revealing DCU Architects https://www.geekfeed.com/gunn-starts-new-year-by-revealing-dcu-architects/ Thu, 04 Jan 2024 09:40:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80355 Zack Snyder was considered to be the chief architect of the DCEU around the time that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice released, but with James Gunn and Peter Safran now taking over, a lot of fans thought that Gunn would be taking over that role.

What’s interesting is, on Threads, Gunn has shared that he’s actually hired an entire writers room of “DCU Architects” and he reveals all of them for the New Year. Here’s the post:

https://twitter.com/DCULatest/status/1741648087137792166

The photo also came with the caption:

2023 what a year! A lot of my favorite moments I can’t post because of spoilers, but here are a few from getaways to premieres to writers rooms to publicity tours to spreading my dad’s ashes in Ireland. 2023 was a year of hard work and incredible challenges – but so many wonderful moments within all that. Family, friends, dogs, and films forever. Thanks to everyone who made this year so great.❤ 2023

According to @DCULatest, the photo from left to right includes Chantal Nong (The Suicide Squad producer), Jeremy Slater (Head Writer for Moon Knight), Christina Hodson (Writer for The Flash and Birds of Prey), Drew Goddard (Writer for Daredevil), Christal Henry (Co-showrunner for Waller), Gunn (DCU Co-CEO) Tom King (DC Comics writer), Galen Waisman (Producer for The Flash), and Safran (DCU Co-CEO).

Though the team does have a lot of seasoned writers from the DC side of things, we also have some members who have worked for the Marvel side. Heck, some people can forget that Gunn also cut his teeth on Marvel properties before jumping onto DC; what with him bringing us the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

With Snyder not having a clear team of writers, hopefully Gunn presenting his whole team for his version of the DCU is a good sign. Then again, even Lucasfilm had a story group, and we saw how muddled up the Star Wars properties have gotten lately.

Let’s just hope that Gunn manages to pull this off when his DCU officially launches in 2025.

DC Studios Finds New Co-Heads in James Gunn and Peter Safran https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunn-and-peter-safran-dc-co-heads/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 13:35:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71751 After Walter Hamada’s exit, everyone was wondering who would be able to replace him as the head of WB’s DC department. Though they were looking for someone to take on the job, it seems that WB has decided two heads are better than one.

As per an official announcement, DC Studios will now be led by producer Peter Safran and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. The two will serve as co-chairmen and CEOs of the DC franchise, and will answer directly to David Zaslav, WB Discovery head.

When it comes to their responsibilities, Gunn and Safran will be responsible for the overall creative direction of the storied superhero franchise across film, TV, and animation under new unified banner.’

Zaslav says about the partnership:

“DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe. Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”

It’s certainly bizarre seeing Gunn become the co-lead of Marvel’s rival franchise. Though it seemed like he was only working with DC temporarily before he was re-hired by Marvel, he’s now solidified to work for the studio for four more years, and as the franchise head no doubt.

I wonder what Kevin Feige has to say about all of this.

We don’t know what DC plans for the future, but Black Adam is currently showing in theaters.

James Gunn is Working on a Mystery DC Project https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunn-is-working-on-a-mystery-dc-project/ Wed, 19 Oct 2022 09:58:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71642 James Gunn may be back working with Marvel right now, but fans who’ve been paying attention know he was exiled to DC for a while—to which he was able to deliver The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for HBO Max. Now word has it that Gunn could be ready to go back to the DCEU after he wraps Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

According to THR, Gunn is currently working on a ‘mystery movie’ for DC and ‘possibly more’. We don’t have any specific details about the project, but it’s said that he has teamed up with Shazam! producer Peter Safran for the project.

Seeing as Gunn has a penchant for slightly gross, found-family films, I have a feeling that his next DC project could go that direction as well. With DC having just as many super groups as Marvel, I can imagine Gunn being able to pick out any group of misfits that he can make an audience love.

That, or maybe he can go another direction this time, seeing as he’s only been making ensemble superhero films since 2014. I think a Peacemaker solo movie could be on the table, but maybe HBO Max wants to keep that as a series. A second season has already been greenlit anyway.

I’m just here hoping that Gunn manages to sharpen his humor with his next film. After the success of Guardians, I feel like some of his latter films haven’t been as clever when it comes to the jokes. Even Peacemaker wasn’t as funny as it thought it was at times.

No release date has been set for James Gunn’s mystery DC project, but you can catch the complete first season of Peacemaker now on HBO Max.

James Gunn Cameos in Trailer for Harley Quinn Season 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/harley-quinn-season-3-ft-director-james-gunn/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 09:24:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=68275 James Gunn has steadily made himself a comic book icon after Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, and now he’s making a cameo as himself in the upcoming season of Harley Quinn.

Watch the trailer:

We don’t know how large Gunn’s role will be in the series, but Harley Quinn has never been shy to make topical references from #RelaseTheSnyderCut fanboys to the whole controversy about Batman not being allowed to give head by the people managing his brand.

While Margot Robbie may be the face of Harley Quinn on the big screen, there are clearly some limitations when it comes to how the character is portrayed. With animation though, WB has been able to go all out when it comes to the character, be it with the violence or the unapologetic references. Heck, try making a movie about Harley and Ivy’s romance without the movie getting pulled from multiple countries.

Here’s the official synopsis for Harley Quinn 3:

The mayhem and madness continue in season three of this biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series. Wrapping up their “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour,” Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy. Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark (Ron Funches), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), Frank the Plant (JB Smoove) – “Harlivy” strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise.

Catch Harley Quinn Season 3 when it comes to HBO Max on July 28.

Peacemaker Gets Exciting Red Band Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/eat-peace-in-this-red-band-trailer-for-peacemaker/ Mon, 03 Jan 2022 13:33:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63290 The end of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad had teased the survival of Peacemaker (John Cena), and though he turned out to be the surprise villain in that movie, it looks like Gunn will be giving him a redemption arc when it comes to his own spinoff show.

Just in, a Red Band trailer has been dropped for Peacemaker, and it should keep us hyped until the release of the series next week. Watch the trailer down here:

While I was expecting some more violence with the trailer, it just seems that there’s a lot more swearing in the series. Then again, this is James Gunn we’re talking about, and if you’ve seen Slither or Super, you’ll know he has a penchant for body horror and gore; you can even say that he was holding back when it came to Suicide Squad.

Personally, I thought Peacemaker was a good one off character, and it made sense for him to be the surprise antagonist of Squad, taking his beliefs—which seemed like a joke at first—and turning him into a real hurdle, even costing the team Rick Flagg.  Even if that was the case, it seems that Gunn wants to do more with Christopher Smith, and he’s probably going to be milking some good jokes out of this ‘f*cked up version of Captain America’.

For now, Peacemaker is expected to set the bar for upcoming DCEU shows, and the success of the series will be a gauge for how fans will react with the release of Batgirl.

Catch Peacemaker when it premieres on HBO Max on Jan. 13.

Peacemaker Says ‘F*ck Aquaman’ in Hilarious New Clip https://www.geekfeed.com/peacemaker-says-fck-aquaman-in-hilarious-new-clip/ Wed, 01 Dec 2021 13:53:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62655 While The Suicide Squad had a lot of great characters, it looks like John Cena’s Peacemaker found a special place in director James Gunn’s heart—that’s why he’s getting his own series on HBO Max. The show is set to come out this January, and we have a new clip where Christopher Smith (Cena) trashes Aquaman.

Here’s the Peacemaker clip:

While everyone went through a significant arc in The Suicide Squad, it’s Peacemaker that kind of stays the same throughout the entire film—that’s why he made for a good surprise antagonist. I think the character is meant to have an actual arc with this series though, and maybe we can get some explanations as to why Peacemaker is the way he is; and hopefully we get to see his principles get challenged—since they’re admittedly messed up.

With characters like Green Lantern, Batgirl, and Blue Beetle allegedly getting TV series, Peacemaker is a series that kind of comes out of nowhere. While the character isn’t that popular in the comics, this lends an opportunity for Gunn to go as crazy as he wants with the show while still staying inside the DC sandbox.

I wonder if there are any big-name DC characters that could be making an appearace. My fingers are still crossed for Batfleck, but maybe we can just meet someone from Squad like Ratcatcher or Bloodsport. Maybe DC can use this to build up to the Batgirl series?

Catch Peacemaker when it starts streaming on HBO Max on Jan. 13.

Peacemaker Gets New Featurette From HBO Max https://www.geekfeed.com/peacemaker-gets-new-featurette-from-hbo-max/ Mon, 11 Oct 2021 14:28:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61911 Before we get to see John Cena be a ‘douche-y Captain America’ in his own Peacemaker series, we get to watch him wreak havoc in James Gunn’s hit film The Suicide Squad. A lot of his character was developed in the film, and HBO Max has dropped a new featurette giving us a look at how Cena brought him to life.

Watch the new Peacemaker featurette down here:

Though The Suicide Squad was already filled with a band of misfits, Gunn has pointed out the subtle ways that he hinted at Peacemaker’s alienation from society; like the scene in the bus where everyone opens up and it’s PM who can’t find anything to say.

We don’t know what he could be up to when it comes to the sequel (and yes, Peacemaker takes place after the events of The Suicide Squad), but I’m excited to see what else Cena has to bring to the character, especially since he was the big ‘villain’ of the film besides Starro.

Cena was absolutely hilarious as the character, and it’s his no-nonsense, separation from reality that makes him fun to watch in TSS. Even if he is kind of silly when he interacts with everyone, that doesn’t make him any less of a badass, and that’s probably the reason why Gunn thought he could carry his own series. Hopefully they manage to develop the character further in the show, and it would be great if he could get another showdown with Bloodsport or even Ratcatcher.

Peacemaker hits HBO Max sometime in January 2022. Get ready for more Peacemaker reveals when DC FanDome kicks off on Oct. 16.

John Cena is Hilarious in New Clip from HBO Max’s Peacemaker Series https://www.geekfeed.com/john-cena-is-hilarious-in-new-clip-from-hbo-maxs-peacemaker-series/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 15:18:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61891 One standout star in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was John Cena, and e made more  fun parody on the ‘Super Soldier Boy Scout” with his character Peacemaker. Apparently Gunn also thought that the character was neat and is set to release a series with Cena in the spotlight. We’re probably going to get a better look at the show later this month with DC FanDome, but HBO Max has dropped a new clip of Peacemaker and his team o handlers that work for Amanda Waller.

Watch the clip down here:

Like the character itself, the show continues to poke fun at the trope of the super soldier, and even has Peacemaker walking around with a sidekick animal. It’s also fun to see how serious Peacemaker is about everything he’s doing while everyone points out how ridiculous he is.

While I was personally hoping for Captain Boomerang to have survived in the end of The Suicide Squad, I trust that James Gunn has something fun in store for DC’s “Captain America gone wrong.” With Cena being hilarious in The Suicide Squad, we can probably expect more shenanigans, now that he’s in the spotlight and there are no other hero characters that need to have their own focused arc.

With the DCEU still trying to get back on its feet, I’m hoping that this show will continue in the timeline of Zack Snyder’s established universe. Though it could be a long stretch, it would be great if we got even just one cameo from anyone in the films. How about Ezra Miller’s Flash? Or maybe even Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn?

Peacemaker starts streaming on HBO Max this January. DC FanDome will give us more of the show when it premieres on Oct. 16.

WarnerMedia CEO Admits HBO Max Same Day release Model was Rushed https://www.geekfeed.com/warnermedia-ceo-admits-hbo-max-same-day-release-model-was-rushed/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 15:01:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61708 Back when WarnerMedia announced that they would be releasing their 2021 slate in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day, a lot of directors –i.e., Christopher Nolan (among others—had spoken out about how they thought it was a huge mistake on WB’s part. Now WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has confirmed that the mess-up was his fault.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kilar had admitted that he should have taken ‘the better part of a month’ to talk to over 170 people who would be greatly affected by the decision of the HBO Max same-day release model. He said during Vox Media’s Code Conference:

“I will be the first one to say, and the responsibility rests on my shoulders, that, in hindsight, we should have taken the better part of a month to have over 170 conversations — which is the number of participants that are in our 2021 film slate… We tried to do that in a compressed period of time, less than a week, because of course there was going to be leaks there was going to be everybody opining on whether we should do this or not do this.”

We don’t know what the future holds for WarnerMedia yet, but some are expecting that Kilar will be stepping down from his position soon.

If anything, the announcement of the same day release model did come at a time of great uncertainty, and HBO had taken a huge risk with the new model; it’s too bad they had to execute it so clumsily.

For now, the next big release for WB/HBO Max is Dune, and it’s set to hit theaters and the streaming service on Oct. 2.

DC Officially Announces FanDome 2021 https://www.geekfeed.com/dc-officially-announces-fandome-2021/ Thu, 02 Sep 2021 06:49:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61270 Though events like the San Diego Comic-Con floundered in their first stab at a virtual convention, DC was able to set a new standard when they held FanDome. Now DC FanDome is set to come back in October, and we have the official announcement.

Watch the announcement video for FanDome down here:

Note that FanDome is a free virtual event and we’ll be able to get a look at every other big DC project coming our way. DC FanDome 2021 promises to bring us a new trailer for Matt Reeves The Batman, plus a look at Black Adam, The Flash, DC’s League of Super Pets, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

On the TV side of things, we should also get our first look at the Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker directed by James Gunn; as well as other titles like Titans, Batwoman, and Superman & Lois. We’re also going to get new looks at the upcoming Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights games as well as a Batman/Fortnite event.

Hopefully we also have some official announcement for rumored projects like the Black Canary spinoff starring Jurnee Smollett. And though it could be a long shot, I would love for DC to revisit David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and release his cut of the movie. Though there’s a chance that it wouldn’t be great, I would love to see Ayer’s original plans for the film, plus Jared Leto’s real performance as the Joker.

DC FanDome takes place on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. PDT.

Black Canary Project in the Works? https://www.geekfeed.com/black-canary-project-in-the-works/ Thu, 19 Aug 2021 13:02:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61099 Jurnee Smollett’s Black Canary had made her debut in Birds of Prey, but we don’t know when we’re going to be seeing her next. What’s interesting is, she could be headlining her own HBO show or film.

As per internet scooper Daniel Richtman (via Geek Vibes Nation) a Black Canary project is in development. We don’t know if it’s going to be a film or a series, but seeing as someone as popular as Batgirl is getting a direct-to-streaming film, it could be the same for the live-action Dinah Lance.

https://twitter.com/GeekVibesNation/status/1427721899287597061

Then again, she did appear in a theatrically released film; but I guess we’ll have to wait and see until the next update.

Admittedly, the character that was able to shine the brightest in Birds of Prey was still Harley, but there were still some great moments with characters like Black Canary and the Huntress. If there were any weak links in the group, it would be Detective Montoya as well as Cassandra Cain.

On a side note, there have been some theories that Smollet’s character is connected to the recently released The Suicide Squad. In the beginning of the film, we see Savant (Michael Rooker) kill a tiny bird—more specifically a canary. Artist Jim Lee posted up his theory that it was Dinah who actually put Savant in Belle Reeve, and that could make for an interesting premise. You think Rooker would be down for another DC project?

https://twitter.com/JimLee/status/1425873751447511040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1425873751447511040%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fscreenrant.com%2Fsuicide-squad-2021-savant-black-canary-theory-jim-lee%2F

We don’t know when Black Canary could appear next, but hopefully we get an update with DC FanDome 2021 which takes place on Oct. 16.

James Gunn: Guardians of the Galaxy Won’t be Rated R https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunn-guardians-of-the-galaxy-wont-be-rated-r/ Tue, 17 Aug 2021 01:00:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61043 With James Gunn going all out with the R-rating of The Suicide Squad, a  lot of people are wondering if we’ll ever get that kind of insane action in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Too bad for gore aficionados because Gunn wants to keep his Marvel franchise family friendly.

Talking to Collider, Gunn says:

“I would never do an R-rated Guardians of the Galaxy… It just wouldn’t be what that show is. It’s for families, and old people love it. It’s more like a fairy tale. And I think it is completely, that is what it is. Suicide Squad is something very different than that, and the stakes are different. All of that is different.”

Though a lot of people thought that The Suicide Squad was very true to James Gunn’s brand, he doesn’t think that it applies for every other franchise, stating that he wouldn’t make an R-rated Shazam! movie or a PG-13 Deadpool. It all really depends on the project.

It’s funny that Gunn should say that Guardians is a family friendly franchise, seeing that it’s probably the most vulgar of the MCU films, with the swearing and humor. That being said, they are very safe to watch with kids, and that’s probably part of why the franchise is one of Marvel’s most successful.

For now, Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. You can catch Gunn’s latest movie, The Suicide Squad, now available in theaters and on HBO Max.

Margot Robbie Cast in Wes Anderson’s Next Film https://www.geekfeed.com/margot-robbie-cast-in-wes-andersons-next-film/ Fri, 13 Aug 2021 09:32:09 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61016 Everyone is still waiting for the wide release of Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, but the director has now started casting on his next movie. After casting the likes of Tom Hanks and other Anderson vets in the film, news has come out that the film has brought in one of the stars of the week’s biggest film, The Suicide Squad.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie has been cast in Anderson’s latest project. We don’t have any details about the project yet, but we do know that the movie is set to start shooting later this month.

Robbie is a newcomer when it comes to the pool of actors that Anderson has previously worked with. Besides Hanks, the film’s cast also includes Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, and Tilda Swinton.

Recently Robbie has been nabbing roles with a lot of high-end directors from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. She’s also proven to be a great producer herself and has also been cast in the Barbie film with Greta Gerwig at the helm.

We’ve yet to get any updates on Anderson’s next movie, but if anything, The French Dispatch looks to be Anderson taking his style to the limit, what with the framed narratives, symmetrical shots, and colorful sets. I think the star-studded cast which includes Timothee Chalamet, Frances McDormand, and Jeffrey Wright is also worth mentioning.

The French Dispatch gets a wide release on Oct. 22. You can catch Robbie in The Suicide Squad now available in theaters and on HBO Max.

Harley Got One Tattoo Removed In Suicide Squad https://www.geekfeed.com/harley-got-one-tattoo-removed-in-suicide-squad/ Wed, 11 Aug 2021 15:59:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60990 Though it’s considered a sequel, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad does nothing to reference the first film. While this is considered a retcon/soft reboot of the franchise, there is one thing that Gunn (and Margot Robbie) changed when it came to the character of Harley Quinn.

If you’ve noticed, Harley no longer sports the Rotten tattoo which was on her right cheek—something that was prominent all the way up to Birds of Prey. Gunn confirmed on his IG stories (via CinemaBlend) that it was something that he and Robbie had agreed wasn’t nice for the character. Gunn said, “Margot didn’t like it and found out I also didn’t like it so we decided just to remove it.”

While some think this breaks continuity, it’s very likely that Harley would have the tattoo removed between the events of BoP and The Suicide Squad; after all, her Property of the Joker tattoo has also been altered to say Property of No One.

With Harley’s arc dealing with her emancipation from the Joker, it’s these little touches that help bring out the details of her development. It wouldn’t make sense for a character like Harley who is finding more confidence in herself to go around with a tattoo on her face that calls her ‘rotten.’

We don’t know when we’re going to see Harley next, but she is certainly one of the few DCEU characters that has managed to keep appearing onscreen despite the drama that’s been taking place with WB. Hopefully she lands another Birds of Prey movie or maybe a long-awaited Gotham City Sirens film. What about the Batgirl series on HBO Max?

For now, you can catch Harley in The Suicide Squad screening in theaters and on HBO Max.

Idris Elba Cast as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog Sequel https://www.geekfeed.com/idris-elba-cast-as-knuckles-in-sonic-the-hedgehog-sequel/ Wed, 11 Aug 2021 15:45:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60984 Idris Elba is currently on the spotlight with people raving about his Bloodpsort in The Suicide Squad, and now he’s taken the opportune moment to promote another upcoming project of his.

As Elba teased on Twitter, he’ll be voicing Knuckles the Echidna in the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog. Here’s the post:

Elba joins a cast that already includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic. Colleen O’Shaughnessey had provided the voice of Tails in the mid-credits scene for the first film, but so far she hasn’t been included in the cast list for the sequel. It’s possible that the movie would want to cast a more recognizable actor to sell the film better, but I wouldn’t mind if O’Shaughnessey came back onboard for the sake of continuity.

Besides that, the film will also be bringing back Jim Carrey who now looks a lot closer to the game character Dr. Robotnik. James Marsden is also reprising the role of Tom.

We don’t know what the plot for the Sonic sequel is yet, but I would be fine if they just focused on Sonic and his friends rather than try to force humans in on the story. The only live-action human I’m excited to see return in the movie is Carrey, and even he’s already an over-the-top wacky cartoon himself.

We don’t have a teaser for the movie yet, but with this latest announcement, it’s possible we could get an update from Paramount soon.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is expected to come out on April 8, 2022.

Fans have Spotted the Guardians of the Galaxy Cameo in The Suicide Squad https://www.geekfeed.com/fans-have-spotted-the-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cameo-in-the-suicide-squad/ Mon, 09 Aug 2021 19:04:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60957 Around the time of the release of The Suicide Squad, director James Gunn had pointed out that there was a cameo from a Guardians of the Galaxy cast member who the critics hadn’t pointed out. With the movie now out, it looks like fans have spotted this hidden Guardian.

For context, Gunn told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that there “might be a Guardian somewhere in the film that no one has seen yet… I’ve gotten a hundred reviews from this movie and I’m just astounded [nobody has mentioned it].”

While Gunn himself hasn’t confirmed it, fans have pointed out that it’s Mantis actress Pom Klementieff who is one of the dancers during the bar scene. Here are the posts:

One other cameo is that of Toxic Avenger director Lloyd Kaufman who is said to be Gunn’s filmmaking mentor. We don’t know if there are any Easter Eggs to look out for, but there are definitely some mentions in the dialogue like STAR Labs and Superman.

For now, fans are celebrating the release of the film, and considers it a solid entry for the DCEU. Personally I thought the film was fine. I was still a fan of the more grounded approach that David Ayer took with the characters in the first Suicide Squad, and I thought that the plot was a bit plain—which is kind of a disappointment when Gunn wrote the more intricate narratives of the Guardians films.

Catch The Suicide Squad now available in theaters and on HBO Max.

James Gunn Thinks Martin Scorsese is Criticizing Superhero Films for the Press https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunn-thinks-martin-scorsese-is-criticizing-superhero-films-for-the-press/ Sun, 08 Aug 2021 16:26:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60906 Though Martin Scorsese is a legendary filmmaker, he has earned a reputation with modern audiences for having extreme dislike for comic book films—specifically ones focused on Marvel and DC properties. While some are taking his comments to heart, Marvel/DC director James Gunn thinks that Scorsese could be doing it for the clout.

Talking to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn talks about Scorsese’s takes on Marvel, and how he thinks it’s ‘awful cynical’ that Scorsese’s press for films end up getting focused on his takes on the comic book movies.

Gunn says:

“I just think it seems awful cynical that he would keep coming out against Marvel and then that is the only thing that would get him press for his movie… He’s creating his movie in the shadow of the Marvel films, and so he uses that to get attention for something he wasn’t getting as much attention as he wanted for it.”

For now, headlines are making it out like a director vs. director situation, but Gunn has clarified on his Twitter that he has nothing but appreciation for Scorsese and even agrees on several things that he said. Gunn posts:

We don’t know when people will stop reacting to Scorsese’s comments on Marvel films, but while they’re still making headlines, I’m sure we won’t hear the end of them.

For now, check out Gunn’s The Suicide Squad now available in theaters and on HBO Max.

Is Batfleck Back in These Flash Set Photos? https://www.geekfeed.com/is-batfleck-back-in-these-flash-set-photos/ Wed, 28 Jul 2021 09:58:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60762 While photos of Ben Affleck on vacation are currently making their rounds online, one interesting character has been spotted on the set of The Flash currently shooting in Glasgow—Batman.

Take note though, this doesn’t look like Keaton’s Batman; and some are guessing that it’s the one and only Batfleck:

With the new photos of Affleck coming out at the same time, it’s very likely that this isn’t Affleck in the suit. Since this looks to be a stunt job, we shouldn’t really expect Affleck to be suited up for these scenes anyway—then again, we’re still not sure if this character is supposed to be Batfleck. That being said, his build is a lot closer to the Batman in Justice League, and his new Batpod has the same feel as the DCEU Batmobile.

For now, the plot of the Flash movie is still under wraps, but the presence of multiple versions of superheroes has people convinced that it will establish a multiverse storyline. I’m just hoping that Batfleck makes it out of this movie alive. I don’t want the character to be killed early in the film, and have Flash be amazed when he meets another version of Batman—kind of like what happened with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

It’s taken a while for The Flash to finally start production, and hopefully this time WB has a more solid direction when it comes to the DCEU pushing forward.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2022. The next DCEU film, The Suicide Squad comes out Aug. 6 in theaters and on HBO Max.
