What’s interesting is that a source that is close to Levinson says that the delay isn’t just pissing off fans—it’s also pissing off the series main star, Zendaya.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the source has claimed that Zendaya had started getting beef with Levinson when he started focusing on his work on The Idol when he was supposed to be working Euphoria. The site writes:

Zendaya was so perturbed that she asked for a meeting with HBO’s Bloys and Orsi, demanding to know why the network allowed Levinson to turn his attention to another show — an HBO show, no less — with Euphoria hanging in the balance.

There’s also the case of the death of Levinson’s producing partner Kevin Turen. With Turen said to have been a good manager for the more volatile Levinson, Levinson’s wife Ashley was said to be attached as a producer for Euphoria 3, which a lot of people don’t seem to be happy with.

A talent rep had said, “Sam needs somebody else beside Ashley… He needs a voice of reason, and Kevin was a genius at that.” Another insider also said, “Sam really is a big talent, but he needs managing, and if you’re a spouse, it’s tough. He needs boundaries, he needs deadlines. It’s hard for a spouse to set limits. You’re setting yourself up for failure.”

Funnily enough, there was also a source that said that Zendaya was the cause of the delay since she had started focusing more on her movie career, with her appearing in box office hits like Dune: Part Two and Challengers. The source said, “It was all about her… Everybody wanted to make it about Sam, but it was her.”

Despite the falling out between the show creators and stars, the article does say that HBO is close to coming up with a story that they could eventually work with for Season 3. Hopefully fans don’t have to wait too long because it’s getting harder to convince people that Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer are in high school.

A release date for Euphoria 3 has not been announced.

The Weeknd Shares New Trailer for The Idol from Euphoria Creator https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-the-idol-from-euphoria-creator/ Sat, 03 Jun 2023 15:58:01 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77050 There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the making of HBO’s The Idol for the past few months, but after a premiere in Cannes, the series is now ready to come to Max. Just in, The Weeknd has shared a new trailer for The Idol and it promises an even more sexed-up version of Euphoria.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description for the series:

After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest, darkest, depths of her soul?

Admittedly, this preview is a bit tamer than the teasers we’ve gotten for the series before, but if you read all the reports that came out last March about how creator Sam Levinson had made the set chaotic, you kind of understand why they would want to dial things down to make audiences forget about how the series has been classified by some as ‘Torture Porn’.

So far, early reactions for the series have been highly negative, but if the internet has taught us anything, audience and critical reception are two completely different things. Maybe the critics may not jam with The Idol, but I’m sure that there are some Euphoria fans that would love to check out the show while they wait for Season 3 of ‘Riverdale for Cinephiles’.

The Idol premieres on Max on June 4.

HBO Drops New Trailer and Release Date for The Idol https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-and-release-date-for-the-idol/ Wed, 19 Apr 2023 08:24:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76373 Last March it was reported that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson was creating a chaotic set for HBO original series The Idol which has caused the project to be delayed multiple times; but despite that, it looks like the project is finally finished with HBO dropping a new trailer as well as a release date.

Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye shared this on his Youtube:

Here’s the description for the series:

A self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult enters a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol.

The trailer pretty much leans in on what we can expect from a series coming from Levinson. With Euphoria already taking it to the next level when it comes to portraying teen drama, we should expect things to get even dirtier with The Idol especially since we’re already looking at something of a modern-day cult.

I’ll admit, the Rolling Stone tell-all article did not put Levinson or this series in a good light, but with the popularity of Euphoria, you can bet that a lot of people are already interested to see what The Idol will bring to the table.

I’m honestly on the fence about the project; I mean, Levinson does create a very unique and artsy vibe with his series, but is it worth the long hours and suffering of the crew? I’m just hoping HBO will solve all these issues before things get out of hand when Euphoria 3 begins shooting.

The Idol is now set to release on HBO Max on June 4.

Euphoria Creator Allegedly Creating Chaotic Set for HBO’s The Idol https://www.geekfeed.com/euphoria-creator-creating-set-for-the-idol/ Fri, 03 Mar 2023 09:18:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73575 Euphoria is currently one of the biggest shows on HBO Max, and creator Sam Levinson was expected to release another, even raunchier series with The Idol starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye. So far, HBO has yet to give us a solid release date for the series, but as it turns out, things have apparently turned into a real shit show behind the scenes.

In a recent article from Rolling Stone, it has been revealed by several members of the crew that The Idol has been a nightmare for the production, and it’s all thanks to co-creators Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye. From what was expected to be the next Euphoria, the series has apparently been written and rewritten over and over again and has been reduced to what some are calling ‘Torture Porn.’

Members of the crew had been opening up about how director Amy Seimetz had left the project due to creative differences, and everything just started going downhill when Levinson had taken over and decided to do a massive overhaul of the story (which was allegedly 80 percent done).

It was also said that Tesfaye was also responsible for the change in the script because he felt the show as ‘heading to much into a ‘female perspective’’. The show was said to have originally featured a smart satirization of the current fame culture, but now it’s just being described as this male rape fantasy where the protagonist woman is happy to be used by a cult leader (played by Tesfaye).

if anything, this shouldn’t come as a surprise for some people who have been following the news for Euphoria. Levinson was also said to have made shooting that series difficult as well, coming into the set with no plans and stretching production more than it needs to.

What’s terrible is, since Euphoria is a hit, and the show makes money, it’s said that Levinson is free to do whatever he wants, and HBO won’t really do anything about it. One source said, “I got the vibe that the mood on set was, ‘What’s HBO gonna do, pull the plug? Yeah, right. If they want a third season of Euphoria, they’ll give me what I want… We’re just gonna shoot what we want and if [HBO execs] have a problem with it, that’s their problem.’”

As of now, there is still no release date for HBO’s The Idol.
