According to insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel), James Mangold’s (Logan, A Complete Unknown) Star Wars movie, tentatively titled Dawn of the Jedi, could be starting production early next year. We don’t have any details past that, but with Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic coming out, he could be free next year to finally get started on his Star Wars movie. Previously, he was also attached to a Boba Fett solo movie, but things didn’t really push through.

We don’t know much about Dawn of the Jedi yet, but it’s said that it will explore the origins of the Jedi and that it will take place 25,000 years into the past. For context, The Acolyte only takes place 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, so there’s definitely a lot of undiscovered ground when it comes to that story.

With this news just coming from Richtman, and directors seemingly getting dropped left and right, it’s understandable that fans would want to wait till cameras actually start rolling before they suddenly get excited. I mean, even the Rey movie with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is finding a hard time to get off the ground.

At this point, the only project I’m sure is going to happen is the Mandalorian movie—but that clearly is only pandering to one specific side of the fandom.

No release date has been announced for Mangold’s Star Wars movie. In the meantime, you can catch Mangold’s A Complete Unknown when it hits theaters this Christmas.

Star Wars is Allegedly Slowing Down; to Lessen Shows Released Per Year https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-is-allegedly-slowing-down-lessen-shows/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 14:36:31 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84174 Ever since Disney+ started, there seemed to be a scramble to get as much new content as they could on the platform with Lucasfilm and Marvel releasing around 3-5 shows a year.

With Marvel allegedly slowing down on the TV front, it looks like Lucasfilm is also going to be following suit. According to insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), “I’m hearing that several series are in development, but it seems they plan to release only one live-action series per year starting in 2025.”

This does line up with some earlier rumors that Lucasfilm is looking to put focus back on the theatrically released Star Wars material, like the Mandalorian and Grogu movie as well as the next big mainline entry starring Daisy Ridley as Rey.

For context, the year 2022 saw the premiere of a total of three shows being The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor; and 2023 saw the third season of The Mandalorian as well as the first season of Ahsoka.

This year, fans got The Acolyte back in June, and this December will see the premiere of another new show called Skeleton Crew directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and starring Jude Law.

Admittedly, just like Marvel, Star Wars is considered to be at a cultural low point as of now, with new series only focusing on the established Original Trilogy era. Hopefully moving forward Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy have a plan to make the franchise feel fresher than what it’s been doing with the past few years.

Hopefully Rian Johnson could give the Knives Out series a short rest this time?

For now, Skeleton Crew is expected to come out on Disney+ on Dec. 3.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Not Pushing Forward with a Second Season https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-the-acolyte-not-pushing-forward-s02/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 11:08:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83859 Well this is certainly some great news for the worst kind of Star Wars fans.

The Acolyte had been hit with all kinds of review-bombing and online mysoginy throughout its run, and while the show wasn’t perfect, there were still some that praised the series for its new take on the franchise, and stunning lightsaber action.

Fans have been campaigning for Disney+ to #RenewTheAcolyte ever since the finale dropped, but Deadline is now reporting that Disney has decided not to push forward with a second season—effectively cancelling the show.

At this point, it may not be surprising that Disney has decided not to push forward with the series. Though shows like The Mandalorian and Andor got greenlit for multiple seasons, other shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett didn’t get the greenlight for a second season either.

We don’t know exactly why the series wasn’t picked up, but some think that the hefty budget and middling reviews wasn’t enough to get the studio interested in a continuation—much to the dismay of every Acolyte fan online:

https://twitter.com/OmgMoreJames/status/1825677548665319622

It’s admittedly a low point for a good chunk of the Star Wars fandom, but some are hopeful that the buzz around the cancellation could get Lucasfilm to change their mind. At this point though, some are getting worried about what this means for the upcoming Rey Skywalker movie.

Will they cancel it in favour of an Ahsoka movie? Will everyone still care by that point? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Starring Jude Law Gets First Images and Premiere Date https://www.geekfeed.com/skeleton-crew-first-images-premiere-date/ Fri, 02 Aug 2024 16:29:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83601 With The Acolyte having completed its first season run, Lucasfilm is now ready to give fans a look at another series set in a galaxy far far away.

Just in, we have new official images for Skeleton Crew from director Jon Watts, and it’s revealed that the series will be premiering on Disney+ on December 3. Check this out:

The official synopsis for the series reads:

“When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy… Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”

It has been said that the show is aiming to harken to the kid-friendly adventure genre which was popularized by The Goonies and Stranger Things. Some fans have even noticed that the kids have ‘bikes’ that was very much a trope of the genre—but this time, it’s going to be set in the world of Star Wars.

Though the main cast of characters are kids, they do have a ‘grown-up’ with them in the form of Jude Law’s character Jod Na Nawood, who is rumored to be a Jedi on the run. Talking People, Law describes the show, “It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars… And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it.”

Though Law is the biggest star, the spotlight will be on the young cast including Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kriana Kratter (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern).

With The Acolyte being a murder-mystery, I’m excited for Star Wars to embrace the kid-friendly action genre—which is the closest it has when it comes to the tone. With Stranger Things setting the bar though, I’m hoping that Skeleton Crew manages to impress when it comes out. Hopefully we get a teaser soon.

Watch out for Skeleton Crew when it premieres on Disney+ on Dec. 3.

The Acolyte Fans are ‘Apologizing’ to Master Indara After Assuming She was a Villain https://www.geekfeed.com/the-acolyte-fans-are-apologizing-to-master-indara/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 10:51:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83269 A lot of fans were shocked that the first episode of The Acolyte would kill off Carrie-Anne Moss’ Master Indara, and as the season continued a lot of them thought that she was up to no good with the witches on Brendok.

But the latest episode, Choice has revealed that Indara was actually the most level-headed one on her team and was trying her best to keep the peace with the coven, and now fans are coming out on Twitter to ‘apologize’ for suspecting that Indara was up to no good since the very beginning.

Here are some of the posts:

https://twitter.com/kayluckydog/status/1810881346014732650

https://twitter.com/kixnstyx/status/1810860428643422626

If anything, it’s kind of understandable that Indara would be suspicious, after all, Moss has played both sides of the coin. She can be heroic as Trinity in The Matrix, but she can also play the cold villain in series like Jessica Jones and films like Memento.

For now, it does seem that Indara’s arc has been completed for the show. It’s possible that she could still have other stuff brewing behind the scenes, but as it looks, there are still a lot of other characters with their ongoing stories that need to wrap up with the final episode.

Hopefully we get to see more Indara in a flashback down the line, but as of now, it’s great that her character was pretty much redeemed. Too bad for Sol fans though because they now have to live with the revelation that he caused a possible genocide just because he had Papa Bear fever.

The Acolyte Concept Art Reveals Alternate Lightsaber Variants https://www.geekfeed.com/the-acolyte-reveals-alternate-lightsaber-variants/ Fri, 05 Jul 2024 11:39:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83172 Lightsabers are pretty iconic when it comes to Star Wars, but every now and again a new variant is introduced to audiences like a lightwhip variant and Kylo Ren’s crossguard.

So far, the lightsabers in The Acolyte have been pretty standard, but some new concet art from Adam Burn (via @JacobYLow) have revealed alternate saber designs that could have made it to the series.

Check these out:

Though lightsabers have a pretty standard aesthetic in Star Wars, these designs were said to be inspired by old duelling pistols to give them that more vintage feel.

When it comes to variants, not only do we get a closer look at Vernestra Rwoh’s lightwhip, but there is also a saber variant when it emits three thin blades instead of one thick one. I’m particularly fond of the ‘broadsword’ version that has a crossguard, but it emits a three blades to form one wide blade.

You also have to love the blade with the curved hilt that was meant for Master Indara. It’s a unique callback to Count Dooku from the prequels who also had a curved hilt; after all, Dooku in the lore is considered to be the most masterful duelist when it comes to blade-to-blade combat.

We don’t know if these blade variants will ever come to the screen, but the High Republic comics have revealed different lightsabers—including a more refined crossguard just like Kylo Ren’s lightsaber. With two episodes left, fans have their fingers crossed for some more weird weapons.

The Acolyte: Elden Ring Community Hero Let Me Solo Her is Inspiration Behind The Stranger https://www.geekfeed.com/the-acolyte-elden-ring-community-hero-inspiration/ Fri, 05 Jul 2024 10:58:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83155 Fans are currently raving about The Stranger (or ‘Darth Teeth’) in The Acolyte played by Manny Jacinto, and while a lot of fans have pointed out that he looks like a different version of Kylo Ren, showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed his design is inspired by a local hero of the Elden Ring community.

Talking to Inverse, Headland confirms that Qimir’s exposed arms and lack of armor in the design is inspired by a longstanding tradition among Soulsborne players. She talks about the design process:

As soon as I said he didn’t have armor, everyone lost their mind. ‘How can you not have armor?’ I was like, ‘Why would you wear armor if you’re not going to get hit?’ It’s like the Elden Ring costume. The Elden Bling. When you summon people, you always summon the people that aren’t wearing anything, and it’s like, ‘These people are fucking crazy.’”

Funnily enough, the most infamous person in the Elden Ring community who doesn’t wear armor is a player by the name of Let Me Solo Her (or LMSH). Around the time of Elden Ring’s release, LMSH gained notoriety for allowing players to summon him before a fight with Malenia, Blade of Miquella—known to be one of the hardest bosses in the game.

The idea is that players would let LMSH take on Malenia alone, and in return, they will get the reward for beating her without doing anything. The craziest part is that LMSH doesn’t wear any armor—just an old pot on his head.

Talking to IGN, LMSH shared his player philosophy: It is a running tradition of Soulsborne games that the naked players are the most powerful beings in the game… Why wear armor if you don’t plan on getting hit at all? And the pot is a good luck charm from the character Iron Fist Alexander whom I admire.”

For now, the naked arms on Qimir have become a hotly discussed fan topic, and Manny Jacinto has officially been dubbed as the next to enter the ‘Hot Sith Club’. He’ll likely get a new look by the end of the show, but I am hoping that he keeps the ‘Darth Teeth’ helmet because it’s a very unique look for a Star Wars villain.

The Acolyte: Dafne Keen Confirms that Jecki was DEFINITELY Crushing on Osha https://www.geekfeed.com/the-acolyte-dafne-keen-confirms-jeckis-crush/ Sat, 22 Jun 2024 11:11:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82989 When we first meet Jecki in The Acolyte, it seems that she’s a huge stickler for the rules, even calling out Sol (Lee Jung-jae) when he sees him with a hologram of his old padawan. What’s funny is, Jecki seems to be forming her own attachments to Osha as well—and Keen herself confirms this.

Talking to Decider, Keen was asked about the farewell between Osha and Jecki at the temple; in which Osha says, “Don’t tell me you’ll miss me,” to which Jecki gives a shy chuckle.

When asked if the interaction meant that they liked each other, Keen replied, “And I think… I think she… Hehehe, I think she does… I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but I think she does.”

Though the character of Jecki is introduced as someone who is very strict with the rules, Keen says that she uses this to inform how the character is actually having trouble navigating her feelings. She says, “I think, for Jeckie, it’s very confusing because as a Jedi you’re not allowed to have feelings for other people.”

With every Star Wars show, you can’t avoid there being any ‘shipping’ when it comes to fandom. Probably the biggest ship that came out of Ahsoka was the one between rival padawans Sabine Wren and Shin Hati.

If Lucasfilm were to pursue these romances though, I would prefer that they actually develop these relationships over time. A lot of fans were ‘Reylo’ shippers around the time of the Sequel Trilogy, but a lot can argue that the kiss in The Rise of Skywalker was definitely unearned.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Puts the Spotlight on Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-the-acolyte-puts-the-spotlight-on-sol/ Sat, 25 May 2024 16:49:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82534 Lee Jung-jae is no doubt best known for his role as the lead Gi-hun in Netflix’s mega hit Squid Game, but he’s jumped over to Lucasfilm to work upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte.

The show is set to premiere in a few weeks, and we have a new featurette putting the spotlight on Lee’s character Master Sol. Watch this:

Information has been slowly coming out about the series, and it looks like we’re going to be seeing two eras of Master Sol, one as an apprentice, and another as a fully realized Jedi. By the looks of it, the titular acolyte will have been Sol’s former padawan, and it will be up to him to stop her.

Though Jedi are always the noble good characters in Star Wars, it’s kind of implied that The Acolyte will be portraying them in a different light, this time giving us the point-of-view of a Sith character. If you’ve followed The Clone Wars, you’ll know that the Jedi’s downfalls have been explored in the series; and The Last Jedi really leaned into it when Luke Skywalker himself talked about how the hubris of the Jedi allowed for them to get wiped out.

Either way, Lee was great in Squid Game, and though Gi-hun was kind of a bumbling character, it’s going to be interesting to watch him be a Jedi this time. I don’t expect him to be the cleanest character either, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see till the premiere.

Watch out for The Acolyte when it premieres on Disney+ on June 4.

Star Wars Skeleton Crew will have Old School Stop-Motion and Matte Paintings https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-skeleton-crew-will-be-artsy/ Sun, 12 May 2024 07:15:23 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82322 Disney+ is currently hyping up the release of their more adult-oriented Star Wars The Acolyte, but we know that there’s a kid-oriented series coming in the form of Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law.

We don’t have an official trailer for the series yet, but besides what we already know about the show, it’s said that there are going to be some old school visuals courtesy of Phil Tippett’s studio. Talking to Collider at CCXP Mexico City, director Jon Watts explained:

“I got to use all the cool stuff on my most recent Star Wars show. We had pre-viz, MOCAP, we shot on the volume, we did everything. But the most fun part was we also used all the old school techniques as well… We got Phil Tippett to do stop-motion. We did matte paintings, like real old-fashioned matte paintings. We got an ILM painter out of retirement to come out and do that. So to me, all that stuff is fun, but it’s just another tool, and it depends on how you use it.”

Though ILM is known to make use of more advanced visual effects, they have been bringing in Phil Tippett for some more old school visuals in the Disney-era Star Wars films. For one, whenever a holochess/Dejarik scene happens in a movie (i.e., The Force Awakens, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Rise of Skywalker), that means that Phil Tippett made some new visuals specifically for that scene.

What I’m curious about is the matte paintings. I don’t know what they could be bringing into the scene that would make sense with matte paintings, rather than just adding an element in later with post. Perhaps a Force/dream sequence? I guess I’m just excited to see what’s in store.

For now Acolyte is getting all the attention, but we should get a better look at Skeleton Crew when The Acolyte ends its first season run. Or maybe we could get a small teaser after the premiere? The ball’s in Lucasfilm’s court.

Star Wars Skeleton Crew is expected to come sometime around Christmas this year, but you can watch out for The Acolyte when it premieres on Disney+ on June 4.

Star Wars: How The Acolyte will Defer from Ahsoka https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-how-the-acolytes-will-defer-from-ahsoka/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 08:41:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81639 We know that in Star Wars that Jedi are supposed to represent a force of good, but slowly the expanded universe has been bouncing around the idea that the Order wasn’t the most perfect system.

With The Acolyte speculated to put the POV in the eyes of the Sith this time, show creator Leslye Headland talks  to IGN about how the series defers in its take on Jedi as compared to previous series like Ahsoka and The Mandalorian.

When asked about how The Acolyte would be compared to previous Disney+ Star Wars series, Headland explained:

I’m also not sure how Jedi-centric the other shows are. Obviously Ahsoka is. But we’re looking at the Jedi as an institution, as a concept, as an entity that has amassed a lot of power. And that’s good, I’m not saying that’s wrong. But I do think that when Jodie Turner-Smith has that line at the end of the trailer, when she says, “It’s not about good or bad, this is about power and who’s allowed to use it,” really I think that’s the question we’re asking. That’s really the question. It’s not, “Is somebody good, is somebody bad?” There’s an imbalance. Someone might be imbalanced morally, but if there’s a power imbalance, how does that affect the power of Star Wars? And we’ve never seen the good guys outnumber the bad guys to this extent. I guess that’s how it’s different.

Though the Sith have popularly been the bad guys in the franchise, there have been some stories where the Jedi have been criticized for their own hypocrisy and hubris. Luke Skywalker outright calls this out in The Last Jedi, and Ahsoka herself was kicked out of the Jedi Order around the end of the Clone Wars.

Admittedly, Star Wars is supposed to be a very simplistic franchise for kids, but I do enjoy when it tackles some more mature themes like it did with Andor. I’m just hoping Acolyte leans closer to that as compared to The Mandalorian a.k.a. ‘Jon Favreau’s Action-Figure-Hour’

Two episodes of The Acolyte premiere on Disney+ on June 4.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Says It’s Necessary to Have a Non-Star Wars Fan Writer https://www.geekfeed.com/acolyte-showrunner-on-non-star-wars-fan-writer/ Thu, 21 Mar 2024 16:04:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81594 The Star Wars fandom can be very protective about the IP, that’s why they want to make sure that anyone working on it is a fan, and though The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland is a self-professed fan of Star Wars, she still says it’s important that there was someone in the writer’s room that didn’t hold the franchise to that much esteem.

“I just thought it would be good to have the perspective of a person that had literally never seen Star Wars until she was in the room,” Headland tells The Hollywood Reporter, “She said to me, ‘Why do you want me in this room? I’ve never seen Star Wars. I have no idea. I think there’s a dog in it, but I don’t know anything.’ And I was like, ‘First of all, you’re an incredible writer, but that’s why I want you here. I want you to be questioning narrative. I don’t want myself, who’s a lifelong fan, to just be relying on particular references in order to create emotional beats. I want those emotional beats to be earned and checked by someone that isn’t super familiar with it.’

If anything, some fans have been coming to realize that one doesn’t really need to be a fan of Star Wars to be able to do something great with it. Tony Gilroy has never said that he was a fan of the series, yet he’s delivered some great material with Andor and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Let’s also not forget the OG Star Wars icon who couldn’t care less about the franchise—Harrison Ford.

For now, everyone is waiting in anticipation for what The Acolyte has to deliver. With shows like Ahsoka being criticized for relying too much on fanservice, the comments from The Acolyte showrunner Headland makes me confident that we have an upcoming series that’s more focused on delivering a narrative as compared to a checklist for fans to tick boxes off of.

The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Drops Morbid New Poster; Teases First Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-the-acolyte-teases-first-trailer/ Wed, 20 Mar 2024 11:41:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81572 It’s going to be a while before The Mandalorian and Grogu make it to the big screen, but Disney still has several other Star Wars projects in the works—one of which is said to be a murder-mystery called The Acolyte.

Just in, Lucasfilm announces that they’ll be dropping their first trailer for the series, and we have a rather morbid poster to go along with the preview. Check this out:

“In an age of light, a darkness rises”

With the dark imagery of the poster, a lot of fans are convinced that this is one of the more mature stories that will be set in the Star Wars universe, unlike the more kid-friendly, fanservice-heavy shows like Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Then again, it’s kind of too early to tell. We’ll just have to wait and see for the first trailer to drop to really get a good idea of what kind of approach the series is going to go for.

It’s also worth noting that the series is set during the High Republic era, which is a hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace. We don’t have any High Republic-era material on live-action besides Acolyte, but you can learn all about that time period thanks to several comics and novels.

Here’s the synopsis (via @DiscussingFilm):

‘STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE’ follows an investigation into a crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg).

As clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

The Acolyte is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 4.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Star Amandla Stenberg Updates on Her Upcoming Show https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-the-acolyte-star-stenberg-updates/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 15:56:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81240 We don’t have a look at the next season of Andor yet, but we do know that there is a bunch of other Star Wars series coming to Disney+ like Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte.

Lucasfilm has yet to give us any official teaser for these incoming shows, but Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) does talk a bit about where her series is going to be when it comes to the Star Wars timeline. Talking to magazinec.com, Stenberg explains:

“In the context of the Star Wars universe, it’s a time of great peace, theoretically… It’s also a time of an institution, and it’s a time in which conceptions around the Force are very strict. And I think what we’re trying to explore within our show is when an institution has a singular conception of how power can be used…we try to provide a lot of different perspectives and answers to that question. The idea is to kind of honor the ethos of Star Wars and ideas around the Force and also challenge them, hopefully harmoniously.”

For context, The Acolyte is said to take place during the era of the High Republic which is set 100 years before The Phantom Menace. It supposedly takes place around the height of the Jedi order, where the Sith have not yet revealed themselves to be a threat.

Rumors suggest that The Acolyte will be about a pair of Sith twins—both played by Stenberg—and the other will be raised in the ways of the Jedi. We know that Star Wars is all about twins and dyads, but it’s unclear where the series is going to be taking that theme moving forward.

No release date has been set for The Acolyte, but fans are hoping for a premiere sometime this year.

Star Wars: Dafnee Keen’s Character in the Acolyte is Inspired by David Bowie https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-dafnee-keens-character-in-the-acolyte/ Thu, 18 May 2023 00:37:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76837 Logan’s Dafne Keen had moved on from Marvel to star in HBO’s His Dark Materials, but she’s going to be re-entering the Disney umbrella in the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte.

We don’t have official details for her character yet, but Keen does tell Empire (via Den of Geek) that her character is ‘David Bowie meets Star Wars… I have a little mullet, I have horns, it’s cute.”

Keen’s look in the series is said to be inspired by one of the dancers in Jabba’s Palace, specifically the Theelin with the pale skin, red hair, and spots. I’m guessing the Bowie-inspired look is going to be a callback to Ziggy Stardust.

I’m already very excited to see what Keen’s character could look like. She managed to pull off some solid fight scenes in Logan, but she wasn’t really that fierce when it came to His Dark Materials; and with that series ending, she’s very much welcome to go to Star Wars and start showing off her lightsaber skills.

Though some fans are expecting Ahsoka to be another cameo-fest no unlike The Mandalorian, series like Andor give hope for fans who are more focused on watching Star Wars for new stories. Let’s hope showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is up to the challenge. Maybe we’ll get a trailer before the year ends, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

No specific release date has been announced for The Acolyte, but we should expect it to release on Disney+ sometime early 2024.

Star Wars: Dafne Keen Details Her Character in The Acolyte https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-dafne-keen-details-the-acolyte/ Tue, 11 Apr 2023 09:12:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76261 Dafne Keen is best known for her roles in Logan and His Dark Materials, but she’s attached to the upcoming Star Wars show from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) called The Acolyte. We don’t have much details about the show yet, but Keen has confirmed some details about her character.

Talking to ScreenRant, Keen explains, I can’t say much. I can say she’s an alien. She’s pretty cool, she’s pretty badass. She gets to play a bit with lightsabers, which is fun, which I loved and… It’s just an honor to be a Jedi.”

Considering how tightly Lucasfilm keeps a lid on their projects, Keen actually shared a lot of details about her character. With her playing the role of a tiny Wolverine in Logan, it would make sense to watch her do some more action again with a property like Star Wars.

Here’s the synopsis for The Acolyte:

“A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”

Besides Keen, the series has also gathered a cast which includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lee Jung-jae, and Manny Jacinto. The lead is also being played by Amandla Stenberg, and it’s still unclear whether her character is a Jedi or actually a Sith acolyte.

Hopefully we get more reveals soon. The Acolyte has no release date yet, but with the series currently filming, I’m expecting a premiere on Disney+ maybe later this year, or early 2024.

Full Cast Reveal for Star Wars: The Acolyte Revealed https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-the-acolyte-full-cast-revealed/ Tue, 08 Nov 2022 15:08:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71926 We’ve been getting small updates on The Acolyte every few weeks ever since Amandla Stenberg was cast, with actors like Lee Jung-jae and Manny Jacinto joining the fray. In an official announcement marking the beginning of production for The Acolyte, it’s been revealed that Carrie-Anne Moss has joined the cast. No details have been revealed about who anyone is playing, but I can already imagine Moss as an early Sith master or maybe a leader of the Night Sisters from that era. Either way, she’s a great talent and a fine addition to the cast.

While no official breakdown of the story has been revealed, rumors are going around that it will focus on a former padawan reuniting with their master to solve a series of murders. We know that the Sith were generally considered extinct when the Prequel era starts, so maybe we could be looking at the order’s beginnings.

Though I can see Stenberg’s character playing both sides of the force, I really want to see Lee Jung-jae play some kind of Jedi. With his character in Squid Game being kind of a deadbeat, I would like to see some kind of jaded Jedi investigator who suddenly finds himself in the middle of some kind of conspiracy.

No release date has been set for The Acolyte yet, but you can catch Andor now screening on Disney+.

Dafne Keen Allegedly Cast in Star Wars: The Acolyte https://www.geekfeed.com/dafne-keen-allegedly-in-star-wars-the-acolyte/ Fri, 04 Nov 2022 11:28:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71896 Dafne Keen has been pretty busy ever since she appeared in Logan, starring in HBO’s His Dark Materials. With the series now gearing up for the release of its final season, Keen is said to have found more work in the Star Wars universe.

Talking during The Hot Mic (via Bespin Bulletin), insider Jeff Sneider had said that Keen had joined the cast of upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte from Leslye Headland. He says, I hear a little casting nugget, this’ll be for The Acolyte. The series, The Acolyte. Dafne Keen, who played X-23 in Logan, is going to be joining The Acolyte. I don’t have any official confirmation on that yet, but I expect that’ll be in a couple of weeks maybe.”

We should take the news with a grain of salt, but Sneider has delivered reliable scoops before. That being said, Keen does seem like a good choice for the series, and with her status as the lead of another currently running sci-fi series, her appearance in The Acolyte could be a major draw for the show.

We don’t know much about The Acolyte series yet, but we do know that it will be taking place hundreds of years before the events of the Prequel Trilogy—in the newly conceived High Republic era. Besides Keen, the series is set to have Amandla Stenberg as the lead, with other actors Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, and Jodie Turner Smith rounding up the cast.

Hopefully we get some official confirmation soon. In the meantime, catch Keen in His Dark Materials which is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Amandla Stenberg Tapped to Lead Star Wars: The Acolyte https://www.geekfeed.com/amandla-stenberg-tapped-to-lead-star-wars-the-acolyte/ Sat, 11 Dec 2021 07:46:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62851 While Lucasfilm is working on shows that focus on established characters like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Russian Doll producer Leslye Headland is set to make her own series called The Acolyte. We don’t know much about the plot of the show, but word has come out that Disney has found someone to star.

According to The Illuminerdi, Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give, Dear Evan Hansen) is currently in talks to be the star of Acolyte. While we don’t have an official breakdown of the plot yet, some speculate that the story could deal with the rise of the Sith around the time of the High Republic era.

In Legends, there is a whole bunch of lore surrounding the rise of the Sith like their war with the Jedi and the establishment of the “Rule of Two”. With the Jedi being the main focus of the series ever since the main film, it would be interesting to explore the Dark Side of things this time around, and see if there’s more to them than just red lightsabers and space goths.

Like I said, Lucasfilm for now seems to be focused on pumping out content for people that are already fans of Star Wars, that’s why we get series focused on characters we all know in a timeline where everything is pretty much set. While Acolyte is being touted as a prequel, I would very much love to continue with the Sequel era and find out where the story of the galaxy goes after the defeat of the Final Order.

No release date has been set for The Acolyte, but you can catch The Book of Boba Fett which is set to premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 29.
