A lot of fans have been curious about his next movie starring Tom Holland and Matt Damon, and now Universal has officially announced what the project is going to be about—and no, it’s not about a robot helicopter.

According to an official post from Universal Pictures, the movie will be an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. Check this out:

It hasn’t been confirmed which characters the cast are playing, but the picture has managed to gather an impressive cast with Nolan favourites like Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, and Anne Hathaway. The cast also includes Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and power couple Zendaya and Tom Holland.

The Odyssey by Homer is considered a sequel to The Iliad which tells the story of mythical hero Odysseus on his journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way he meets several mythical creatures and magical beings, all making for unique short stories that build up a whole narrative.

There have been several adaptations of the Odyssey over the years, but one of the most auteur-focused takes was O Brother, Where Art Thou? from the Cohen Brothers which takes the story of the Odyssey and loosely brings it to 1930s rural Mississippi. George Clooney plays the lead Ulysses (Odysseus’ Roman name) and there are loose adaptations of the Sirens and the Cyclops from the original poem.

Knowing Nolan, his Odyssey may not be a direct adaptation, and should have its own kind of twist unique to him. Maybe it’s a telling of the story in a grounded way as compared to the mythical events that happen in the original poem? Could he find a way to work a robot helicopter into the story?

We’ll just have to wait and see until the next update. Hopefully it can match the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou because the bluegrass songs are what make the movie.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to come out July 17, 2026.

Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron Join Christopher Nolan’s Next Project https://www.geekfeed.com/more-join-christopher-nolans-next-project/ Thu, 28 Nov 2024 09:51:45 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85393 Very few directors manage to earn the status of modern auteur, and Christopher Nolan definitely fits the bill.

After the smashing success of his biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan is now ready to sink his teeth into his next project, which has gathered an impressive cast including Tom Holland and Matt Damon. Now THR is reporting that the likes of Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron are also going to be part of the cast.

No details have been revealed about the roles, but when it comes to Pattinson’s character, some are expecting it to just be a small role. After all, he’s expected to spend most of his time next year shooting the sequel to The Batman with director Matt Reeves.

It’s also worth noting that Pattinson also worked with Nolan in his last action movie Tenet, which also had several A-list actors playing bit parts.

Besides the cast members mentioned, Nolan’s next movie has also managed to include Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, and Zendaya. No details have been revealed about the movie, but there are rumors going around that it would either have something to do with a high-tech helicopter or be horror film that’s also a period piece.

Based on Nolan’s repertoire, he’s managed to tackle most genres from sci-fi, including jumping forward in time and going back. Who knows, maybe this time he’ll take a stab at buddy comedies?

Christopher Nolan’s next movie is set to release in theatres on July 17, 2026.

Tom Holland Cast in Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/tom-holland-cast-in-christopher-nolans-next-movie/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 10:06:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84886 A lot of fans were disappointed when Tom Holland teased a huge announcement, only for it to turn out to be the launching of some non-alcoholic beer, but this new piece of news seems to make up for that.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland has been cast to star alongside Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s next movie. No details have been revealed about the movie, but it’s said to be a period piece, and a rumor is going around that it could have something to do with vampires.

This should be considered a huge win for Holland, since fans have started to notice that he’s been in kind of a slump whenever he’s not working on a Spider-Man movie. Don’t get them wrong, they still think Holland is talented, but after duds like Cherry and Uncharted, people are starting to doubt whether Holland’s agent has the juice to get him into better projects.

I do have to admit though, Holland was great in Netflix’s Devil All the Time movie that came out a couple of years ago:

For now, Nolan’s rep is at an all-time high, thanks to the phenomenon that was Barbenheimer last year. With Nolan’s last movie being a serious period drama, some think that he’s ready to once again put on his action hat and deliver a Tenet-level flick with Holland and Damon as the leads.

At some point, I’d actually love to see another stab at the concept of Inception.

Nolan’s next movie starring Holland and Damon is set to release in theatres in July 17, 2026.

Watch ‘Opening Look’ for Oppenheimer https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-opening-look-for-oppenheimer/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 10:39:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77860 Barbie may be at the top of everyone’s watchlist this week, but cinephiles all have their eyes on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, Oppenheimer. The film releases this Friday, and we have a new ‘Opening Look’ which gives us a good idea of how the movie is going to be framed.

Check this out:

Any Nolan fans knows that he likes playing around with the timeline of his films, and it looks like Oppenheimer is going to bIe pretty much the same. It looks like the black and white scenes take place after the invention of the bomb, and it will be used as a framing device to slowly uncover what happened at the Manhattan Project.

Despite all the marketing the movie has gone through, this is probably the most we’ve seen of the movie, since even the trailers have been pretty minimalistic when it comes to reveals. It pretty much sets up the kind of characters we’ll be meeting in the film, as well as the drama we can expect from a man that invents the ultimate weapon that would lead to the death of thousands.

As of now, the internet is gearing up for Barbenheimer, with a lot of fans thinking about watching both films on the same day, though Oppenheimer is expected to be a dark existential film, cinephiles suggest watching it first in the morning, and ending the day with a screening of the more bubbly and colorful Barbie.

Watch out for Oppenheimer when the film finally drops on July 21.

New Oppenheimer Featurette Highlights Intricacies of Shooting in IMAX https://www.geekfeed.com/oppenheimer-featurette-showcases-shooting-imax/ Sat, 03 Jun 2023 16:40:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77087 July is gearing up to be a cinematic battle ground between Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and after Barbie’s recent trailer drop, we have a new featurette for Oppenheimer highlighting the intricacies of shooting the film in IMAX.

Check this out:

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.

There are several things that are considered to be ‘signature Nolan’ when it comes to cinephiles, and besides the non-linear storytelling, he’s also had a penchant for shooting things in IMAX—which is said to complicate the process, seeing that the cameras are very heavy and make a significant amount of noise.

Just listening to Robert Downey Jr. talk about having a huge IMAX camera on his lap while shooting a scene in a car kind of makes me want to laugh, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for the movie to come out to see if it was all worth it for Nolan’s style.

Reports are saying that Oppenheimer is going to have a solid runtime of three hours, so a lot of fans are already gearing up for what kind of film to expect. We know audiences will sit down for a 3-hour Avengers film, but would they do the same for a historical biopic about the man who invented the atomic bomb? At least both projects have Robert Downey Jr. in them.

Catch Oppenheimer in theaters when it comes out on July 21—the same day as Barbie.

Which side are you on?

The Manhattan Project Begins in Latest Trailer for Oppenheimer https://www.geekfeed.com/the-manhattan-project-in-trailer-for-oppenheimer/ Thu, 11 May 2023 15:41:39 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76735 A lot of people are excited for Barbie to drop this July, but cinephiles know that it will be clashing with the release of Christopher Nolan’s next movie, Oppenheimer.

A new trailer just dropped for the film, and it showcases the beginning of the Manhattan Project. Check this out:

Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb.

While Cillian Murphy had been at the center of all the minimal marketing for the film, the latest preview does give us a look at all the other players in the movie including Matt Damon’s Leslie Groves Jr. and Robert Downey Jr.’s Lewis Strauss. Emily Blunt also plays the part of Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty, with other cast members being Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Quaid, Rami Malek, Josh Peck, and more.

Earlier trailers for the film have been pretty vague about what to expect with the movie, but now it’s clear that we’re going to be exploring the formation of the Manhattan Project and the moral questioning that was surrounding the creation of one of the world’s deadliest weapons.

While Nolan did try to make an action blockbuster with Tenet, we should expect Oppenheimer to be one of his more ‘serious’ films that have heavy themes like Interstellar and Dunkirk. Let’s just hope he manages to captivate the audiences this time around because Tenet did not generate Inception-level hype.

Oppenheimer drops the bomb when it hits cinemas on July 21.

Cillian Murphy Becomes a Destroyer of Worlds in Trailer for Oppenheimer https://www.geekfeed.com/cilliam-murphy-in-oppenheimer-trailer/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 05:46:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72521 Christopher Nolan got a taste of making a period drama with Dunkirk, and after Tenet, he’s set to come back to 40s with his upcoming movie Oppenheimer.

The film is set to release in July of next year, and we have a new trailer starring Cillian Murphy as the Father of the Atomic Bomb. Watch this:

Here’s the synopsis:

Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb.

Funnily enough, the movie has a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh, but we don’t see any of them in the trailer. Who we do see are actors like Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Josh Peck (Drake & Josh).

Despite his latter films being deemed too intelligent to understand by a lot of movie-goers, Nolan remains to be one of the must-see filmmakers of his time. Not only can he bring in some very heavy themes and intricate plots, but he does so in spectacular fashion, bringing in some of the most visually dazzling and memorable set-pieces that can be brought to screen with modern movie magic.

I’ll admit Tenet wasn’t the return to cinema that fans expected after the pandemic, but hopefully Oppenheimer reminds us why Nolan was such a celebrated filmmaker in the first place.

Oppenheimer is set to release in theaters on July 21, 2023.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Drops First Look at Lead Cillian Murphy https://www.geekfeed.com/christopher-nolans-oppenheimer-drops-first-look-at-lead-cillian-murphy/ Wed, 23 Feb 2022 17:05:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64207 After his falling out with Warner Bros, Christopher Nolan has teamed up with Universal Pictures for his next movie, Oppenheimer which tells the story of the man who created the Atom Bomb. Cillian Murphy is set to star as the lead J. Robert Oppenheimer, and we have our first look at him in the movie.

Check this out:

The film is actually based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, but Nolan himself is taking credit as the writer for te screenplay.

Besides Murphy, the main cast also includes Emily Blunt who will be playing Oppenheimer’s wife Katherine Oppenheimer. Matt Damon will be playing the director of the Manhattan Project General Leslie Groves Jr., and Robert Downey Jr. will play Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the US Atomic Energy Commission.

That’s just the top of the cast list. Other actors appearing in the film include Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, Alden Ehrenreich, Rami Malek, Dane DeHaan, and Kenneth Branagh—who seems to be Nolan’s new replacement for Michael Caine, who has since retired acting.

Though he made a name for himself with blockbuster films like Dark Knight and Inception, Nolan has steadily been leaning over to period movies, what with the success of Dunkirk. We should hope that Oppenheimer will continue his trend of telling non-linear stories, but maybe Nolan is ready to challenge his own directing styles?

Oppenheimer is set for a release on July 21, 2023.
