Stephen Lang – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com Entertainment News, Celebrities and Fandoms Mon, 23 Jan 2023 14:53:44 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://www.geekfeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-Geekfeed-Favicon-White-32x32.png Stephen Lang – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com 32 32 Avatar: The Way of Water has Officially Grossed Over $2 Billion https://www.geekfeed.com/avatar-the-way-of-water-grossed-over-2-billion/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 14:53:44 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73029 A month ago, director James Cameron had said that Avatar: The Way of Water would have to make $2 billion to make its money back, and while it seemed like a huge gamble at the time, it seems to have paid off.

As per CNBC, Avatar: The Way of Water has officially grossed $598 million domestically and $1.426 billion in foreign markets—putting the movie over the $2 billion mark. Admittedly, Cameron had already said that the movie was profitable near the start of January, but passing $2 billion marks the number he had stated a month before the theatrical release.

With the movie allegedly costing more than $200 million to make, The Way of Water was said to have been one of the most expensive movies to have ever been made; so you can bet that the studio would want to make its money back.  With the last film coming out in 2009, it was unclear that the movie would be able to generate Avengers-level enthusiasm from the audience; but I guess they can all breathe with a sigh of relief now.

We can’t exactly sum up why The Way of Water was such a success in theaters, but I guess that you can thank Cameron for his way of handling spectacle on the big screen. Avatar 2 was an absolutely beautiful film, and with the simple story about saving the environment, I guess it didn’t really step on anybody’s toes on a political level.

Here’s the synopsis:

Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.

New Avatar: The Way of Water Featurette Takes a Look at Shooting in ‘The Volume’ https://www.geekfeed.com/new-avatar-the-way-of-water-featurette/ Fri, 23 Dec 2022 14:09:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72602 Probably one of the neatest hat tricks of Avatar: The Way of Water is that everything we see on the screen is completely CGI, and this allowed for James Cameron to shoot all his upcoming movies back to back. Just in, we have a special look at the shooting of The Way of Water in the volume, and we get to see actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang in their mo-cap Na’vi outfits.

Check this out:

Besides the returning cast members, we’re also getting the new characters in the form of Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis who play the leaders of the Metkayina clan who are adept with the world of water. We also have a look at the actors playing the Sully kids like Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss.

With the first movie being a visual spectacle, the same could very well be said about The Way of Water. Pandora is all about the wonderful nature, and it looks like Cameron and his team are still able to capture that beauty and put it to screen.

I don’t expect the movie to make Endgame money, but it’s definitely worth a watch in the cinema.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water is now in theaters.

Is Stephen Lang Getting His Own Avatar in The Way of Water? https://www.geekfeed.com/is-stephen-lang-getting-his-own-avatar-in-the-way-of-water/ Fri, 25 Nov 2022 14:10:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72160 Stephen Lang had played the primary antagonist Colonel Quaritch in the first Avatar movie, and though the character died, Lang still found himself cast in the sequel The Way of Water. What’s odd is, there could be an explanation of how he survives—he gets his own Na’Vi avatar.

On Twitter, Lang shared a poster featuring what could be Quaritch’s avatar body. Check this out:

Some speculate that this could be a completely new character, but it would be interesting if they found a way to bring Quaritch back—and this time actually have him in Jake’s shoes navigating his own alien body.

Based on the first film, we know that there are methods where humans can permanently transfer their consciousness into their avatars. Though the process didn’t work for Sigourney Weaver, it did work for protagonist Jake Sully, and he was even able to have children with Neytiri.

We don’t know what kind of arc Quaritch is supposed to have with an avatar body, but maybe we could see a dark mirror of what Jake’s character could have been should he have just stuck to the mission and not have understood the ways of the Na’Vi.

A lot of fans may be trashing on Avatar for being a ‘forgettable’ movie after so long, but based on the new trailers, I think James Cameron has upped the ante when it comes to the visuals of the sequel. Everything looks stunning, and I can’t wait to jump back into the world.

Avatar: The Way of Water comes to theaters on Dec. 16.
