What’s funny is that every Sonic movie has been able to reference a Sonic meme at some point, and the easter egg in the third movie is probably the most blatant one yet.
As pointed out by fans during the director commentary, it’s been revealed that the filmmakers were able to sneak in the “Shadow loves Latinas” meme with the scene showing Shadow being invested in the Spanshi soap opera (“She’s not some prize to be won.”).

The ‘Shadow Loves Latinas’ meme is actually relatively new, and was only going around sometime in 2023. This edit of a clip from Sonic Prime has been able to amass millions of views:
Now fans are wondering what kind of meme is in store for the fourth movie. With Metal Sonic being the next villain, some think that they could reference this bootleg doll of him that went viral. There is also the creepypasta “Sonic.exe” which could be easy to reference seeing that Metal is all about the computers and whatnot.
Personally, this is the meme I want referenced one way or another:
If the filmmakers also decide on introducing Rouge the Bat, there should be some kind of reference to furries at some point, because she was no doubt instrumental in turning a generation into that kink.
For now, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is aiming for a release sometime around the Spring of 2024.
]]>According to series director Dave Wilson and creator Tim Miller, Reeves apparently ‘lived to the hype’ and toughed out all of his scenes for his Armored Core episode while he had injured his kneecap. In a recent interview with Collider, Wilson explained:
So, two weeks before filming, we get this email, and it’s like, “Dave, Tim, I got some bad news. I’ve fractured my kneecap,” and, and, blah, blah, blah. I’m skimming to the bottom of the email where he’s going to tell me he can’t do it, and he’s like, “But I’ve learned all my lines. I’m off book. I can take the brace off, and I can shoot for five minutes at a time…” And I was like, “Oh my God, he’s still going to do it.” And so I’m like, “Don’t worry about it. Keep the brace on. We’ll give your character a limp and a brace.”
While they were expecting to have Reeves shoot his part for a couple of days, Reeves apparently requested that they finish everything at that point, and he shot for 13 hours straight. Wilson continues:
… two hours in, I can tell it’s hurting, man. It’s very recent, and his knee’s about the size of Tim’s head. About two hours in, he’s like, “Dave.” And I’m like, “Do you want to come back tomorrow?” He’s like, “Let’s just shoot it all now.” And I’m like, “What?” And he shot for 13 hours straight with that brace, and he doesn’t leave set. He just nips out, has a cigarette, comes back in, and he’s like, “Let’s go again!”
We don’t know if Reeves would be willing to come back for another season of Secret Level, but so far, he’s been down to work on all kinds of video game properties. Besides Sonic, he’s also the face of the Cyberpunk 2077 game with his character Johnny Silverhand.
Admittedly, Secret Level didn’t earn the same level of acclaim as Love, Death and Robots, and a lot of criticism was aimed at the show being more action-focused—whereas LDR had a good mix of all kinds of genres. The good news is, a second season has already been greenlit, so Miller and his team can work on bringing more into the show that they haven’t done before.

]]>In a recent interview with IGN, Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller confirm that the It Takes Two adaptation could push forward in the next year. Casey explains, “I was going to say, we’ve already written a script for It Takes Two, which hopefully we’ll get some good news on moving forward in the next year.”
Not much details have been revealed about the project, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is attached as a producer, and some speculate that he could be starring in the movie—which could possibly be just a voice role like Super Pets.
For context, It Takes Two is cooperative platformer game which follows the story of a couple who are on the midst of a separation, but suddenly find themselves transformed into toys and must cooperate to get themselves back to normal.
The interesting thing about the game is that there is no single player option available, and players will either have to connect with someone online or play with someone beside them. The world consist of several cleverly designed levels that will force players to communicate and cooperate.
Top that off with a potential divorce storyline, and you have the makings of a hit game with a meta-narrative that goes hand-in-hand with the gameplay.
No release date has been set for It Takes Two, but maybe we can get something by 2026. In the meantime, you can check out Casey and Miller’s work with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 now in theaters.
]]>Talking to IGN, Sonic writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller talk about wanting to make an adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, but only after the live-action movie from Wes Ball gets finished. When asked about any potential projects, Miller discussed:
“I think another easy one I think we can answer because the movie’s already happening and we’re already not doing it would be a Zelda. I remember always when we played Wind Waker, we were always like, man, I mean, it would probably be weird if they made a Zelda movie to start with Wind Waker versus the more classic Hyrule. But we both loved Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. Yeah. So after they make this Zelda movie, I guess we’re putting it out there in the world, maybe we can do a Wind Waker spin-off.”
For context, The Legend of Zelda series kind of reboots itself with every entry (like Final Fantasy), but it just keeps specific story elements like Link, Zelda, Ganon, and the Kingdom of Hyrule. The Wind Waker was a game that released for the GameCube, and featured a more animated art-style for Link and the rest of the world.
It’s still unclear what the plan for the live-action Zelda movie is, but a lot are expecting some high-visual fantasy akin to that of the recent Dungeons and Dragons movie. Since there were some fans hoping for an animated Zelda adventure, maybe The Wind Waker could be their way in.
After all, the Spider-Verse films have been considered great, and that’s with the live-action Spider-Man also being in theaters.
We don’t know when a Wind Waker movie could actually happen, but fans can enjoy Casey and Miller’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 now in theaters.
]]>Check this out (and remember I told you it possibly spoils the movie):
As per the latest trailer, it does look like the Robotniks are going to team-up and betray Sonic in the movie. Though it can be expected for a character like Robotnik, you would think that him teaming up with Sonic was pushing the point of how dangerous Shadow is going to be.
Admittedly, Shadow is considered more of an antihero, so maybe the movie is just confirming to the fans that he won’t be the ultimate villain in the film; but then again that kind of spoils his arc in Sonic 3. By the looks of it, it’s just going to be another Knuckles story where Sonic and Shadow fight, realize they’re not so different, and team-up to fight Robotnik.
Then again, this is just a kids’ franchise, so we shouldn’t expect anything like Lord of the Rings when it comes to plot. Either way, a lot of fans are happy to see Shadow finally make it to the big screen, and the movie promises to deliver everything that made the character popular—like shadow using a motorcycle and guns.

]]>Paramount is gearing up for the release of the film next month, and a new featurette reveals that they actually shaved Carrey’s head for the movie onscreen. Check this out:
Apparently Robotnik’s dishevelled hair in the movie was Carrey’s actual hair, and he said he’d been growing it for a year-and-a-half. We don’t know if he actually grew the hair for the film, but it’s always nice to see details like this whenever they talk about the making of movies.
Though three movies does sound like a solid number for a trilogy, it’s said that after Shadow the Hedgehog, director Tim Miller and his team already have their eyes set on a Sonic 4. We don’t have any details on who the villain could be this time, but a rumor is going around that the filmmakers are looking to incorporate Silver the Hedgehog into the movie.
In the games, Silver is a time-traveller (like Trunks from DBZ) who comes back to his past to stop catastrophes that shaped his future.
Of course, a fourth movie hasn’t been officially greenlit, but with the success of the Sonic movies and the solid fanbase, a fourth movie wouldn’t be surprising. I was just kind of hoping they greenlit another three movies immediately so Miller can write a more cohesive trilogy this time around.
Then again, it’s just a kids movie with a Hedgehog that runs fast, so I don’t think they have to try that hard storywise.
Catch Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when it zips into theatres this Dec. 20.
