The first film in the series is set to premiere this December, and we have a new official trailer thanks to Netflix’s Geeked Week 2023.

Watch this:

The official description reads:

From Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, comes REBEL MOON, a 2-part movie event decades in the making.

After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) — leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

From the premise alone, you can already see all the comparisons to Star Wars, from the evil fascist empire to the hero with simple roots as a farmer. I guess the only difference in Rebel Moon is that there isn’t any mystical “Force” in the story, but it’s too early to tell.

The gathering of the warriors is also different to the Star Wars genre in that it’s more inspired by Seven Samurai, but even Star Wars has paid their homage to that film with an episode of The Mandalorian; you can even say that Rogue One was also another ‘gathering of heroes’ film.

#RestoreTheSnyderVerse may never happen ever, but it’s great to see this modern auteur just working on his own original projects. Personally, I think he still has to brush up on his narrative skills in this trailer for Rebel Moon, but visually, he’s still a master that always delivers some memorable setpieces.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire premieres on Netflix this coming Dec. 22.

Henry Cavill is Another Bond-Type in Star-Studded Trailer for Argyle https://www.geekfeed.com/henry-cavill-is-another-bond-type-in-argyle/ Tue, 03 Oct 2023 02:36:01 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78948 It’s pretty sad that Henry Cavill lost Superman and The Witcher, but everyone is still hoping he can land some great projects soon. Though he may not be in the running to play the next James Bond, Cavill does play a secret agent in the upcoming Argylle and we just got a new trailer.

Check this out:

The official description for the film reads:

Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Accompanied by Aiden (Oscar® winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

As you can see, the trailer is filled with all kinds of stars, like Cavill, Howard, Rockwell, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, and Ariana DeBose. The film even managed to bring back other Kingsman stars including Samuel L. Jackson and Sofia Boutella.

With the Kingsman films already a kind of parody of the Bond franchise, it’s going to be interesting to see just how Argylle sets itself apart.

Watch out for Argylle when it comes to theaters on Feb. 2, 2024.

Zack Snyder Shares First Concept Art for Rebel Moon https://www.geekfeed.com/zack-snyder-shares-first-concept-art-for-rebel-moon/ Sat, 01 Jan 2022 02:58:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63231 Fans may be desperate to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, but Zack Snyder has been hard at work with an original property called Rebel Moon for Netflix. Principal Photography hasn’t started yet, but we do get a look at some concept art for what is said to be Snyder’s version of Star Wars.

This was shared on Snyder’s Vero with the caption “Rebel Moon concept art… we are in full swing heading toward principal photography in a few months.”:

We don’t know who these figures in the dark are, but I can imagine them as Snyder’s version of stormtroopers in this world. If anything, some people are already comparing the appearance to Cyborg from Justice League as well as Zod in Snyder’s first DC film, Man of Steel.

With Snyder being known as a visual filmmaker, I’m excited to see what kind of sci-fi world he can build when he’s given the freedom to do so. Then again, still has a problem when it comes to narrative, and after Suckerpunch and Army of the Dead, I’m hoping that Rebel Moon will at least have a better story.

Here’s the synopsis of Rebel Moon (via Deadline)

The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand the Tyrant.

No release date has been set for Rebel Moon, but I suspect the film will hit Netflix sometime early 2023.

Rebel Moon: Sofia Boutella Tapped for Zack Snyder’s Next Sci-Fi Film https://www.geekfeed.com/rebel-moon-sofia-boutella-tapped-for-zack-snyders-next-sci-fi-film/ Fri, 05 Nov 2021 09:07:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62238 Zack Snyder may not be directing a Star Wars movie anytime soon, but he is going to be making his version of a space opera with his upcoming project Rebel Moon. We don’t have a look at the movie as of now, but we do have news on who could be the film’s potential star.

As per Deadline, Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Kingsman) has been tapped to star in Zack Snyder’s next project. We don’t have a specific breakdown of her character, but the synopsis can be a hint as to what we can expect.

Here’s the description of the plot:

The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand [against] the Tyrant.

With Sofia Boutella having supporting roles as a kick-ass femme fatale, I’m excited to actually see her take center stage in a film. Whether you like or hate Snyder, I think you can agree that he has very interesting casting choices—like Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. I’m ready for Boutella to be the Luke Skywalker of Snyder’s Star Wars.

Despite his falling out with WB, it looks like Snyder is still thriving creatively. Like many fans though, I am hoping that he manages to work on DC again, especially with so many people wanting Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and many more back.

As of now, no release date has been set for Snyder’s Rebel Moon, but you can catch his latest film, Army of the Dead (and its spinoff Army of Thieves), now on Netflix.
