Talking to Deadline, Weaver confirms that she’s actually going to be in the upcoming Mandalorian movie which will be released theatrically. She says, “I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu [which will be directed by Jon Favreau]. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.
Weaver doesn’t go into any details on who she could be playing, but she’s pretty much played several types of characters in a sci-fi franchise. Besides playing the final girl Ripley in Alien, she’s also played a scientist in Avatar and a misty-eyed teenage girl in Avatar: The Way of Water. She’s even played a parody of the oversexualized sci-fi heroines in the infamous Star Trek parody Galaxy Quest opposite Tim Allen.
What’s interesting about Weaver getting cast in The Mandalorian is that there’s a character on the show, Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris), who is said to be inspired by Weaver’s look in the original Alien movie. We don’t know if the two will ever interact with each other, but it would be great if Weaver could play a role that would harken back to something close to her Alien roots.
Then again, I think Weaver would make a fantastic Imperial antagonist should they decide to put her in the series; either that or some Mandalorian elder complete with some armor. Whatever it is, I’m sure Weaver can pull it off.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is expected to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

So far, the reveal is just cinematic, so we don’t really get a breakdown of their specific skills; but based on what the Xenomorph does in the trailer, it’s possible it is going to be blind in the game—even if none of the movies have confirmed or denied what the alien can see.
We should also expect the Xenomorph to be incredibly agile, sneaking around a map to get its prey. It’s also very likely that the game will want to do something with its acid blood and ability to create face huggers that will lay eggs inside its victims.
As for Ripley in the game, she doesn’t really look like Sigourney Weaver, but she does have the rockin’ hair from the late 70s. We don’t know what kind of survivor skills Ripley can come up with, but it’s possible it could have something to do with caring for her other teammates, seeing as that was her major arc in Aliens.
Here I thought they were going to give us at least one android survivor.
Dead by Daylight: Alien launches on Aug. 29.
]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ is now developing a series for Galaxy Quest with producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad), who was also attached to the original film.
If you haven’t checked out Galaxy Quest yet, the film was essentially a love letter to Star Trek, and it found the cast of a cult sci-fi series (called Galaxy Quest) suddenly thrust into a real sci-fi adventure with aliens and spaceships. The film starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and the late Alan Rickman. Here’s the trailer:
A reboot was said to have been planned way back in 2015 including the original cast, but it never got past development; it also didn’t help that Alan Rickman had passed away.
We don’t know what direction the next Galaxy Quest could go, but seeing that sci-fi franchises like Star Wars have opted for the ‘reboot/sequel’ route, I can imagine the Galaxy Quest series possibly adapting the same kind of story. Maybe they reboot the show in canon, and the cast of the original suddenly find themselves on a space adventure?
I’m hoping they come up with something surprising and unexpected, since that pitch was just something off the top of my head. Either way, I’d love for them to tackle the culture of fandom today, especially with the nature of internet fandoms and gatekeepers.
No release date has been revealed for Galaxy Quest on Paramount+.

Besides the returning cast members, we’re also getting the new characters in the form of Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis who play the leaders of the Metkayina clan who are adept with the world of water. We also have a look at the actors playing the Sully kids like Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, and Trinity Jo-Li Bliss.
With the first movie being a visual spectacle, the same could very well be said about The Way of Water. Pandora is all about the wonderful nature, and it looks like Cameron and his team are still able to capture that beauty and put it to screen.
I don’t expect the movie to make Endgame money, but it’s definitely worth a watch in the cinema.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Avatar: The Way of Water is now in theaters.
]]>Just in, 20th Century Studios has drooped a new trailer for the film, and we get to see Pandora brought to life with modern visual effects. Watch this:
Cameron has always been kind of known for his obsession with the ocean, and it was said that his hobby eventually led to the making of Titanic. If anything, you get to see more of the beautiful ocean life here in the trailer, and there’s also a sequence where we see some Na’Vi trapped inside a sinking vessel. What did I say? It’s totally Avatar-meets-Titanic the movie.
I also can’t help shake the feeling that Zoe Saldana’s Ney’tiri could die in the film. The way that Jake and his daughter talk is framed to make it seem like she’s talking about Eywa or the spirit of Pandora, but for it to have some real meaning, I think we will have to lose an important character—and that would be Ney’tiri, the reason Jake embraced the Na’Vi culture in the first place.
Then again, I am just guessing. With the first movie having been criticized for having a plain narrative over the years, you would think Cameron would want to tell a story that has a lot more emotional kick to it.
Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.
Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in cinemas on Dec. 16.
]]>Talking to CinemaBlend to promote his upcoming book Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron, Cameron confirms:
“Yeah, it’s true. It just popped into my mind in the moment. It was actually on the back of a script, or some kind of presentation document. It might’ve been the treatment. I can’t remember. I was sitting with the three producers, and we were in the office of the then-head of 20th Century Fox. And I said, ‘Guys, I got an idea for the title. And it goes like this.’ And I wrote, ‘Alien’ in large block letters. And I put an S on the end. I showed it to them. I said, ‘I want to call it Aliens, because we’re not dealing with one. Now we’re dealing with an army, and that’s the big distinction. And it’s very simple and very graphic.’ And I said, ‘But here’s what it’s going to translate to.’ And then I drew the two lines through it to make it a dollar sign. And that was my pitch. And apparently it worked! Because they went with the title. They never questioned it.”
When it comes to sequels, James Cameron has been a master of upping the ante. Terminator 2 was a whole different animal than the first movie, and Aliens was a sci-fi war epic as compared to the first Alien which was a slasher movie in space.
We don’t know if there was a clever pitch for the Avatar sequel, but it better be a good story if Cameron wants to make four movies out the gate. It seemed like after Endgame became one of the biggest films of all time, Cameron had to protect his box office crown.
Catch Avatar 2 when it comes out Dec. 16, 2022.
]]>Talking to EW, Cameron explains why the Avatar sequel will deal with the oceans of Pandora. He says:
“I do the ocean thing when I’m not making movies… So if I could combine my two greatest loves — one of which is ocean exploration; the other, feature filmmaking — why wouldn’t I?”
We’ve only seen still photos and concept art of this upcoming world, but it has been described as “Bora Bora on steroids.” With the rainforest in the first Avatar overflowing with color and alien life, I can’t wait to see what kind of underwater world Pandora will be bringing to the big screen.
With Avatar being such a huge hit back in 2009, you would think that a sequel would have come out sooner; I guess if we were getting sequels, we would be at the fifth entry by now—so it kind of makes sense that Cameron would announce four sequels already underway. He says, “It sounds kind of nuts, the process… I mean, if Avatar hadn’t made so much damn money, we’d never do this — because it’s kind of crazy.”
Here’s the synopsis for Avatar 2:
Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet.
The first Avatar sequel is set to hit theaters in Dec. 16, 2022.
