After hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, and Elvis, Bob Dylan is the next figure to get his story told with A Complete Unknown.

The film is set to come to theatres this Christmas, and we have a new trailer with Timothee Chalamet playing the part of one of music’s most influential songwriters. Check this out:

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician BOB DYLAN’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Admittedly, this isn’t the first attempt at a Bob Dylan biopic. Way back in 2007, Todd Haynes directed I’m Not There, a more experimental biopic on the life of Bob Dylan where the role was played by several actors including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Ben Whishaw, and Heath Ledger.

With A Complete Unknown though, it looks like the approach is going to be the traditional biopic with Chalamet playing the role of Dylan. It’s funny that Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook) should appear in the movie, because director James Mangold also directed a Johnny Cash biopic way back in 2005, and he was played by none other than Joaquin Phoenix.

Hopefully A Complete Unknown becomes an interesting look into Bob Dylan’s work as a musician, and like previous biopics, introduce a new generation of fans to his music.

A Complete Unknown comes to theatres on Dec. 25.

Amy Adams Thinks She’s Turning Into a Dog in Surprisingly Feminist Trailer for Nightbitch https://www.geekfeed.com/surprisingly-feminist-trailer-for-nightbitch/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 12:13:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84103 Amy Adams may have taken a break in 2023, but she’s back this year with some more projects, one of them the very surreal sounding Nightbitch—a movie about a woman who thinks she’s turning into a dog.

The film is set to come out this December, and Searchlight has just dropped a first trailer for what is a surprisingly feminist movie. Check the teaser for Nightbitch out:

Here’s the story synopsis:

One day, the mother was a mother but then, one night, she was quite suddenly something else. At home full-time with her two-year-old son, an artist finds she is struggling. She is lonely and exhausted. She had imagined what was it she had imagined? Her husband, always travelling for his work, calls her from faraway hotel rooms. One more toddler bedtime, and she fears she might lose her mind.

The film is actually based on a novel from Rachel Yoder, and is being directed by Marielle Heller, who was at the helm for films like The Diary of a Teenage Girl and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. She may not be the biggest name when it comes to auteur directors, but Heller has managed to direct some very heartfelt and moving films.

Admittedly Amy Adams has kind of been slowing down recently, especially after the release of the J.D. Vance biopic Hillbilly Elegy. Her last movie, Disenchanted, was the last thing she worked on, and it was her only film to come out in 2022.

Either way, I’m excited for a return for Adams in the spotlight. She’s always been a great powerhouse of an actress, and I’d love to see her tackle something with such a unique premise.

Nightbitch is set to release in theaters on Dec. 6.

Bugonia: Emma Stone Once Again to Star in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Next Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/stone-once-again-to-star-in-lanthimos-movie/ Wed, 22 May 2024 10:22:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82501 People are still coming down from the hype of Poor Things, but Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are already at Cannes promoting the premiere of their next film Kinds of Kindness. Now the two have been revealed to be teaming up again for another movie.

According to Collider, Lanthimos and Stone will be coming together for his next film called Bugonia. The plot is said to involve two conspiracy-obssesed young men who kidnap the CEO of a huge company, believing that she is an alien who has plans for destroying the Earth.

It’s every bit as bonkers you can expect from a filmmaker like Lanthimos.

Besides Stone, the movie will also be including Jesse Plemons—who wasn’t in Poor Things, but has worked with Lanthimos in his most recent project KOK.

Though a lot of people like to complain that the superhero genre has essentially killed cinema, we’re now seeing the rise of films in theaters that are geared toward more arthouse storytelling like Lanthimos’.

You’d think that he’s slow down after all these recent wins, but I’m excited to see his artwork evolve through the years.

KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

Watch out for Kinds of Kindness when it comes to cinemas on June 21.

‘It’s an Absolute F*cking Banger’: Ready or Not Sequel in the Works https://www.geekfeed.com/horro-movie-ready-or-not-sequel-in-the-works/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 07:33:39 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82047 Directing duo Radio Silence (Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin) are currently gearing up for the release of their loli vampire movie Abigail, but it looks like they already have their next project in development.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new horror auteurs are ready to come back to one of their original horror properties—2019’s Ready or Not starring Samara Weaving.

We don’t have a n official story breakdown yet, but they do say that the story they have for the sequel is ‘an absolute f—ing banger.’ Gillett says:

“It’s getting figured out… That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways.”

If you haven’t checked out Ready or Not, the movie is essentially a horror spin on the game Hide and Seek, and Samara Weaving gets married into a weird rich family which has a sick tradition of playing Hide and Seek where she hides and everyone else in the house tries to find her and literally kill her.

There’s also a “deal with the devil” element to the movie, and it’s possible that this could be the angle that Radio Silence wants to take the sequel (Kids’ game horror cinematic universe?). Of course, they could just bring back Weaving and title the sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come.

If anything, the first movie was a pretty solid standalone, but if Radio Silence feels very passionately about the project, I’m willing to see what they’ve got. In the meantime, you should check out Abigail which comes to theaters April 19.

Kinds of Kindness: Yorgos Lanthimos’ Next Movie with Emma Stone Gets First Teaser https://www.geekfeed.com/kinds-of-kindness-gets-first-teaser/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 10:45:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81725 Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are just fresh off their Oscar wins with Poor Things, and now Searchlight Pictures has decided to drop the first teaser for their next film Kinds of Kindness which also brings back some Poor Things cast members and then some.

Check out the teaser:

Here’s the official description:

KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

Besides Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley, the movie also includes the likes of Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Joe Alwyn, and Hunter Schafer.

Based on the description, it does sound like Kinds of Kindness is going to be an anthology film which follows several different stories, but it would be great if Lanthimos found a way to bridge them all together.

After the dreamlike visuals of Poor Things, it does seem like this movie is going to look a bit more grounded; but we should still expect all kinds of nasty and freaky things to happen, seeing that Lanthimos is at the helm.

We don’t know if this movie is going to get the same level of acclaim as Poor Things, but at this point, some fans of Lanthimos are just happy to see the director be in his element.

Kind of Kindness is expected to come out in theaters on June 21.

Emma Stone Gets Absolutely Bizarre in Extended Look for Poor Things https://www.geekfeed.com/emma-stone-in-extended-look-for-poor-things/ Sun, 29 Oct 2023 15:18:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79331 Yorgos Lanthimos has delivered some arthouse films with movies like The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Dear, and The Favourite, and now he’s set to deliver what could be one of the most colorful pictures in his filmography with Poor Things.

The movie is set to come out in theaters this December, and we have a new extended look withs tar Emma Stone talking about the character of Bella and what she wants to say about being a woman in the world. Watch this:

If you’ve watched Lanthimos’ films before, you’ll know that he has a very unique form of storytelling that could be difficult to stomache for general audiences. If anything, Stone could be a major draw for the film, and it also doesn’t hurt that others like Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo are in the movie.

There have also been comparisons to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein when it comes to the character of Bella; I guess the fact that Dafoe’s character in Poor Things looks like he was pieced together was already a reference to the book; but that’s just my guess.

From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe).

Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

Poor Things comes to cinemas on Dec. 8.

Emma Stone is a New Kind of Crazy in Trailer for Poor Things https://www.geekfeed.com/emma-stone-in-trailer-for-poor-things-2/ Tue, 13 Jun 2023 16:48:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77228 Emma Stone seems to have taken a break after the release of Cruella back in 2021, but she’s once again teamed up with auteur Yorgos Lanthimos for the upcoming movie Poor Things. The film is set to release in September, and we have a new trailer featuring Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, and more.

Watch this:

The official description reads:

Already you can see a lot of similarities with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein what with Bella being a character brought back to life; but this time, it’s the doctor that looks like he’s been pieced together with different body parts.

If you’ve watched Lanthimos’ movies before, you’ll know that they take a very unique lens to stomach, but by this point, I think a lot of audiences will know what to expect when they walk into this film.

Personally, I’m just excited to see Stone back onscreen again, and all the visuals for this film look absolutely stunning.

Poor Things comes to cinemas on Sept. 8.

There Are No Small Parts in Trailer for Theater Camp https://www.geekfeed.com/no-small-parts-in-trailer-for-theater-camp/ Sat, 20 May 2023 18:21:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76889 We’ve had a recent rise of great child actors with the cast of Stranger Things, IT, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but Searchlight Pictures is set to tell the story of actual child actors with the upcoming movie Theater Camp.

Just in, we have our first trailer, and it stars Ben Platt, Molly Gordon, and Jimmy Tatro. Watch this:

Here’s the synopsis:

Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in the original comedy THEATER CAMP as Amos and Rebecca-Diane – lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.

Other cast members of the film include Patti Harrison, Nathan Lee Graham, Ayo Edebiri, Owen Theiele, and Amy Sedaris.

The cast may not be as star-studded as other indie projects, but I think that just helps the film shine a bit more. After all, I think the main focus of the movie is going to be the kids in the camp just trying to do all the kinds of performances they can.

It feels like a fun indie twist on the camp movie genre, and it looks like a lot of fun. Though these films are usually just for kids to play around, it’s going to be interesting to see them being watched over by adults who feel like they’re taking the camp too seriously.

Watch out for Theater Camp when it comes to cinemas on Aug. 25.

Taika Waititi Returns to Form in First Trailer for Next Goal Wins https://www.geekfeed.com/first-trailer-for-next-goal-wins-released/ Wed, 03 May 2023 10:22:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76591 Thor: Love and Thunder may not have been everyone’s favorite Taika Waititi project, but the Kiwi director is set to come back to a genre that turned him into a critical darling.

Check out the trailer for Next Goal Wins starring Michael Fassbender:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Directed by Academy Award Winner Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok), NEXT GOAL WINS follows the American Samoa soccer team, infamous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. With the World Cup Qualifiers approaching, the team hires down-on-his-luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) hoping he will turn the world’s worst soccer team around in this heartfelt underdog comedy.

The movie is based on real events, and there was even a documentary that came out back in 2014 with the very same name, covering Rongen’s taking over of the American Samoa soccer team and training them to be competent players. Here’s the trailer:

With Waititi’s movie though, we should expect more things to be changed up for the dramatization like new characters and shenanigans, but I bet that the story will keep to the underdog nature of the team, with some splashes of Waititi’s signature humor here and there.

I’ll admit, Waititi’s knack for humor kind of takes a backseat with his Marvel movies like Thor: Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, but his more grounded films like Jojo Rabbit and Hunt for the Wilderpeople have always been sharp and charming. Let’s hope Next Goal Wins falls in that category.

Catch Next Goal Wins when it comes to cinemas on Oct. 20.

Michael Fassbender Coaches the World’s Worst Soccer Team in Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins https://www.geekfeed.com/michael-fassbender-coaches-in-next-goal-wins/ Fri, 25 Nov 2022 14:00:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72156 After Thor: Love and Thunder, director Taika Waititi is set to come back to Earth with his soccer film Next Goal Wins. The movie stars Michael Fassbender, and we have our first images from the film via Entertainment Weekly.

Waititi describes the story:

“The story is about the worst soccer team in the world, who famously experienced the biggest loss in an international match against Australia, 31-0, which is about a goal every four minutes… After suffering that huge defeat, they applied to the soccer federation to find a coach who could get them from the very, very bottom of the FIFA rankings.”

Though Waititi is known for his more fantastical films like Jojo Rabbit and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Next Goal Wins will be his first sports movie that’s actually based on real life. The film actually draws inspiration from a 2014 documentary that has the same name.

Besides Fassbender, the movie also stars Elisabeth Moss who will play Fassbender’s ex-wife. Will Arnett has also joined the cast as a fictional soccer executive. The film also stars Somaon-New Zealand actor Oscar Kightley, and Jaiyah Saelua. Saelua’s character, Kamaina, is actually pretty interesting because she’s a trans player, and is one of the star players of the team. As per Waititi, a lot of the movie centers on the relationship between Kamaina and Rongen (Fassbender’s character).

With the film set to come out April of next year, it could be any time now before we get our first teaser. You’d think they would tease it after the release of Love and Thunder earlier this year, but maybe they wanted to distance Waititi from his superhero career to promote this film. Just a guess.

Next Goal Wins comes to theaters on April 21, 2023.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson Reunite in The Banshees of Inisherin https://www.geekfeed.com/the-banshees-of-inisherin-trailer-released/ Mon, 08 Aug 2022 16:21:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70427 Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson had played an unlikely duo in Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges, now the team is coming back together for Monagh’s next movie, The Banshees of Inisherin.

Watch the official trailer here:

The official description reads:

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN follows lifelong friends Pádraic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson), who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán (Kerry Condon) and troubled young islander Dominic (Barry Keoghan), endeavours to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer. But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences.

While some fans can take In Bruges literally as a film, there has always been more of a surreal read to it, and I think we can say the same about The Banshees of Inisherin. We don’t really know if the events taking place on the island can be considered ‘real’, but the premise is just so bizarre that I’m excited to see what’s in store for the film.

Not to mention, the chemistry between Farrell and Gleeson is still great, and at some point I thought I was watching a sequel to In Bruges which takes place in some kind of Irish purgatory.

The Banshees of Inisherin comes to theaters Oct. 21.

See How They Run: Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell Star in Period Whodunit https://www.geekfeed.com/see-how-they-run-saoirse-ronan-and-sam-rockwell/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 07:42:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=68268 Everyone may be excited for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, but Searchlight has another whodunit mystery that they want to release this September.

Have a first look at See How They Run starring Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan:

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the West End of 1950s London, plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after the film’s Hollywood director is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid theatre underground, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.

The film actually has a fantastic cast that also includes Ruth Wilson, Adrien Brody, David Oyelowo, and Harris Dickinson.

At the helm of the movie is also Tom George, and this looks to be his first feature film. Though he’s had a lot of experience when it comes to television, I am excited to see what kind of tone he has for the film. With the setting based on the theater scene and the inclusion of Brody, it does feel like a Wes Anderson film, but the comedic tone and whodunit nature of the story kind of reminds you of Rian Johnson’s past work. That being said, I’m sure George will be able to find his own original tone when it comes to this movie.

See How They Run comes to theaters on Sept. 9.

Frances McDormand and Timothée Chalamet Star in New Clip from Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’ https://www.geekfeed.com/frances-mcdormand-and-timothee-chalamet-star-in-new-clip-from-wes-andersons-the-french-dispatch/ Wed, 14 Jul 2021 12:37:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60526 A lot of Wes Anderson fans were excited for the release of The French Dispatch when it was first announced, and though the film was initially expected to come out in July, the pandemic  has called for an indefinite delay. After a successful premiere at Cannes though, Search;ight has released a new clip from the film featuring Frances McDormand and Timothée Chalamet.

Watch this clip from The French Dispatch down here:

We don’t know exactly who McDormand and Chalamet are playing in the movie, but it looks like both are members of some kind of rebel group, with McDormand’s character being a ‘good writer.’ Just like The Grand Budapest Hotel before it, it looks like Dispatch is going to feature multiple time jumps, with each era defined by color (or lack of it).

With Wes Anderson being known for his signature style, it looks like he’s going all out when it comes to The French Dispatch. A lot of shots in the preview look very complex and crowded, and it looks like Anderson is pushing himself even more when it comes to this film. Let’s not also forget to mention that he’s managed to cast a lot of impressive faces from Benecio del Toro to Tilda Swinton.

While the movie doesn’t have a plot, the film is summarized with this description:

A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional twentieth century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in “The French Dispatch Magazine”.

The French Dispatch is set to open to general audiences on Oct. 22.
