What’s great is that the show was actually able to bring back all of the main cast members from the movie, and director Edgar Wright shares what he told them that got everyone to say yes in less than 3 hours.

Talking to Rolling Stone, Wright shares his e-mail with the subject reading Scott Pilgrim: To Be Continued. He then read:

“Hey all,

I have some happy news. We’ve been talking about this for years now. So you may have already heard something about it, but we’re going to do a Scott Pilgrim anime show for Netflix, and it’s just been greenlit. Bryan Lee O’Malley has co-written all-new scripts with BenDavid Grabinski. They are both a faithful adaptation but also something different — surprising and very fun. I think they are really special scripts. I’m sure you will, too. Of course, having all of you [the greatest cast of all time*], and though it would be a dream and mean a tremendous amount to everyone, it goes without saying, but it’s worth saying. Jared will follow up with a bunch more info, but I’m jazzed by what I’ve seen so far, and I think it will be an awesome and lovely continuation of this wonderful book.

Over to you, Jared.

Edgar

(*) Yes, better than The Godfather.”

Wright also shares that the cast have stayed in touch with each other since 2010 and have sharing all kinds of e-mails and memes with each other whenever it had something to do about the movie. With so many of the movie’s stars having gone on to become major A-listers like Chris Evans and Brie Larson, it’s amazing they were able to gather everyone back to reprise their roles.

The series even got some cameo voices like Simon Pegg, Nick Frost , Kal Penn, Stephen Root, Weird Al Yankovic, Finn Wolfhard, and Shannon Woodward. They even got the original film’s writer Michael Bacall to do a cameo voice as one of Envy’s fans.

Admittedly, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is definitely not the adaptation everyone was expecting, and that’s what makes it so great. Any fan of the original comic and movie should check it out immediately before all the spoilers come out online.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is now on Netflix.

Netflix Working On Scott Pilgrim Anime with Original Creator https://www.geekfeed.com/scott-pilgrim-anime-with-original-creator-from-netflix/ Mon, 10 Jan 2022 14:10:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63406 It’s been more than a decade since Scott Pilgrim vs. The World graced screens and became a cult favorite, and now streaming giant Netflix wants to bring the quirky world of Bryan Lee O’Malley into the realm of animation.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, O’Malley, alongside BenDavid Grabinski, are set to executive produce a Scott Pilgrim anime for Netflix and UCP. The show is said to be tapping Star Wars: Visions studio Science SARU for the animation as well.

In the original Scott Pilgrim comic, we follow the story of slacker/musician Scott Pilgrim who finds himself in love with new-girl-in-town Ramona Flowers. Things take a turn for the deadly when Scott discovers that he has to literally fight off Ramona’s Seven Evil Exes—comedy and action ensue, and the comic gets a movie adaptation with Edgar Wright at the helm.

If you read the comic, you’ll know that the movie actually dropped a lot of content, from several plot points to development for several characters. We don’t know if this anime is going to be adapting Scott’s story or continuing it, but it would be great if we could get the hyper-bombastic ending that we got in the comic, which renders the movie ending lackluster if you ever had the chance to read it.

That being said, the film is still a great adaptation, and it really sets the mood for Scott’s world. Hopefully they get the original actors like Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead to reprise their roles. Fingers crossed.

No release date has been announced for Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim anime.

Edgar Wright Goes Horror in First Trailer for Last Night in Soho https://www.geekfeed.com/edgar-wright-goes-horror-in-first-trailer-for-last-night-in-soho/ Thu, 27 May 2021 00:52:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59675 With films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, director Edgar Wright has been known for his action/comedies with snappy direction. Now he’s set to go full horror movie with his next film Last Night in Soho.

Watch the trailer for Last Night in Soho down here:

The official description reads:

Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller about a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…

The film looks to have Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) in the spotlight, but the film also has Matt Smith and Terence Stamp credited in the cast. What’s more, the movie also has an appearance from Game of Thrones’ Diana Rigg, who had passed away last year.

Harry Potter fans will also be happy to see twins James and Oliver Phelps, who had played the mischievous Fred and George Weasley in the Potter movies.

Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting Last Night in Soho to be a horror film, but knowing Wright and his homages to several genres, it’s going to be interesting to see him go all out when it comes to horror. Taylor-Joy has also had a penchant playing the ‘victimized girl’ in scary movies, so it would be great to see her take on the role of the ‘tormentor’ this time.

Catch Last Night in Soho when it comes out Oct. 22.
