Since Scott Pilgrim has become a cult classic, Winstead shares the quote that a lot of her fans love from her character and ask her to write down whenever she does autographs. Talking to Coming Soon with Pilgrim co-star Ellen Wong, Winstead shared that a line that’s often repeated to her is “Bread makes you fat,” Winstead shares:

“I think that’s the main thing. If I have to sign a quote or someone wants something signed from Ramona, the quote is usually “bread makes you fat.””

For context, that’s a line Ramona says to Scott while they’re on a date in his apartment, eating garlic bread:

What really makes the scene is Scott’s reaction to the information, repeating the “bread makes you fat?!” line like he’s learning about carbs for the first time.

As for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the series has been receiving some sparkling reviews, and a lot of fans have been celebrating the unexpected twist to the Scott Pilgrim formula. Though it does look like everything in the series is well-contained, there is still some hope that fans could see some more of Scott and Ramona, as well as all the kooky characters from Bryan Lee O’Malley’s fictional Toronto.

Ramona is the Main Focus in Final Trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off https://www.geekfeed.com/final-trailer-for-scott-pilgrim-takes-off/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 05:48:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79614 Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim is set to come back  in the form of an animated series, and a lot of fans are excited to see a more faithful take on the original source material.

The series is set to premiere this week, and we have a final trailer spotlighting the girl of Scott’s dreams, Ramona Flowers (voiced by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Watch this:

Besides Winstead, the show was also able to bring back all the cast members from the original adaptation from Edgar Wright. Michael Cera, Allison Pill, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza all came back to reprise their characters; they even managed to bring back A-list stars like Chris Evans and Brie Larson.

Though the film is a cult favorite, fans of the comic know that a lot of the arcs had to be compressed to have Scott strategically take on each evil ex in a shorter amount of time. The comic pretty much plays out like an anime, where each villain got to hang around for a few chapters; and the ending with Gideon is even more bombastic than the fight we got in the film.

Hopefully Science Saru doesn’t disappoint with their take on O’Malley’s fictional Toronto.

Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix this coming Nov. 17.

Netflix Releases Anime Intro for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off https://www.geekfeed.com/netflix-releases-anime-intro-for-scott-pilgrim/ Sun, 05 Nov 2023 07:58:09 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79447 Scott Pilgrim may have skipped the animated adaptation route to go straight to a movie, but more than a decade after the film’s release, fans are finally going to get the anime treatment for Scott Pilgrim and his kooky friends from Toronto.

The anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off premieres on Nov. 17, and Netflix has released the opening theme complete with stellar animation from Science Saru:

Though Scott Pilgrim is very clear about its anime and video game influence, some fans have pointed out that this intro harkens back to classic anime Beck which came out around the mid ‘00s. Here’s a comparison:

Anime fans also recognized the band Necry Talkie for providing the intro to the Scott Pilgrim anime; they’re also the same band who provided the intro song for Kanojo mo Kanojo.

Though Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is trying to carve out its own way when it comes to the adaptation, a lot of influence from the film is still very clear; especially with the return of all the main cast members of the movie including Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Kieran Culkin. They even managed to bring back some A-listers including Chris Evans and Brie Larson.

The movie may have been a decent adaptation by itself, but any fan who read the comic knows that the manga does have a more bombastic ending, especially when it comes to the face off with Gideon and the rest of his exes.

It’s unclear if the whole season will adapt the manga, but I can imagine them spending each season just tackling one or two evil exes rather than speeding through seven.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix on Nov. 17.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off in New Trailer for the Anime https://www.geekfeed.com/scott-pilgrim-takes-off-in-new-trailer/ Mon, 16 Oct 2023 13:39:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79205 With the Scott Pilgrim comic from Bryan Lee O’Malley so inspired by Japanese manga, it was only inevitable that we would also get an anime adaptation—featuring the original voices from the movie, no less.

The anime is set to premiere this November, and we have a new trailer featuring Scott, Ramona, and all of her League of Evil Exes. Watch this:

Though the movie tried to be as faithful to the comics as it could, a lot of comic-readers will know that the story was kind of watered down to fit in one film; from the more generic characterization of the exes, to the bombastic Evangelion-esque ending with Gideon Graves harnessing the power of all of his ex-girlfriends.

Admittedly, the cuts in the anime don’t seem as snappy as that of Edgar Wright’s work, but I am eager to watch Scott’s story unfold from an entirely new lens. I guess it was great that they were able to bring everyone back to reprise their roles. Who would have thought the film was going to be full of future A-listers like Chris Evans, Brie Larson, or Kieran Culkin?

Here’s the official description for the series:

Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix this coming Nov. 17.

Watch First Trailer for Scott Pilgrim the Anime https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-first-trailer-for-scott-pilgrim-the-anime/ Fri, 18 Aug 2023 07:45:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78271 It’s been more than a decade since the release of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but no matter how accurate the movie tried to be to the source material, a lot of scenes from the comic were still left on the cutting room floor.

Now Netflix is planning to release an anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim, and we just got our first trailer. Watch this:

What’s great is, the show has managed to bring back all the original cast members to reprise their characters. Not only did they get Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but they also got supporting cast members like Kieran Culkin, Brie Larson, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, and even Anna Kendrick.

For anyone who’s read the Scott Pilgrim comic, they will know that a lot of huge plot points were dropped in the film to make everything more cohesive. A lot of character development for supporting cast members was cut, and the twin evil exes actually had more speaking roles in the manga. Not to mention, the ending with Gideon Graves was a lot more bombastic, fitting of something that’s an ode to the anime genre.

We don’t know how the anime will change things, but it would definitely be great if it could stick closer to the source material, and then add even more to it. Scott Pilgrim was definitely a unique IP, and it’s great that we’re going to be getting more of it after so long.

The Scott Pilgrim anime is set to premiere on Netflix on Nov. 17.

Watch Stunning Animation in First Trailer for Star Wars: Visions https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-stunning-animation-in-first-trailer-for-star-wars-visions/ Wed, 18 Aug 2021 16:44:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61071 Disney+ had just premiered their animated show for Marvel Studios, and with all the hype surrounding What If…? we now have a new trailer for the animated Star Wars anthology series, Visions.

Watch the trailer for Visions down here:

Just in case you didn’t know, these are all non-canon stories that take place within the universe of Star Wars. We’ve known for a while that we would be following different original characters, but this is the first time we have a look at some familiar locations (like the Mos Espa Grand Arena from Phantom Menace) as well as characters.

Here’s the list of anime studios and their entries in Visions:

Kamikaze Douga The Duel

Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō

Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody

Trigger – The Twins

Trigger – The Elder

Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride

Science Saru – Akakiri

Science Saru – T0-B1

Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

The series looks absolutely amazing, and a lot of animation fans can appreciate its distinct look from existing animated Star Wars material like The Clone Wars or Rebels. Personally, I was hoping that Resistance was going to adapt this anime art-style, but you can’t have it all.

Hopefully the success of Visions will let Lucasfilm explore the idea of more 2D-animated properties down the line. With Star Wars being known for its dazzling visuals and heartfelt stories, there’s just so much room to explore with this medium. How about a Star Wars: Legends series covering the debunked material from the EU?

Catch Star Wars: Visions when it premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 22.

Disney+ Drops First Look at Star Wars Visions https://www.geekfeed.com/disney-drops-first-look-at-star-wars-visions/ Wed, 07 Jul 2021 09:36:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60386 When Star Wars Visions was first announced for Disney+, a lot of fans (myself included) thought that it would be SW’s version of Marvel’s What if…?. Now Disney has dropped a new look at the series, and it reveals a show that has its very own unique feel.

Check out the special look at Star Wars Visions down here:

While Galaxy of Adventures was considered to be an anime-inspired SW project, Lucasfilm has gone all out with Visions, collaborating with anime studios for these non-canon anthology stories. Here are the studios and the titles of their shorts for Visions:

Kamikaze Douga The Duel

Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō

Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody

Trigger – The Twins

Trigger – The Elder

Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride

Science Saru – Akakiri

Science Saru – T0-B1

Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

Though we didn’t get any fully-animated clips, we can see that each studio is adapting their own original style when it comes to their episodes. We don’t know how long each entry will be, but with these animated shorts, I think each would be at least longer than 5 minutes.

I was personally hoping that Visions would adapt some Legends material for the older fans of Star Wars, but I’m also up for completely new characters and re-imaginings. Though some shorts focus on new characters, we may also get some alternate-universe stories, what with Trigger’s ‘Dark Side Twins’ storyline.

Star Wars Visions premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 22.
