Check this out:

We’re officially halfway through filming the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Take it all in nerds, we’re going on one last final ride!

We can’t really infer what to expect storywise when it comes to Season 5, but the trailer does confirm all of the returning cast mates including the original kids, as well as the teen characters.

The season is also introducing a new character played by Terminator icon Linda Hamilton. It’s unclear who she’s playing yet, but with Doctor Brenner gone, someone else has to be the face of the government, and Hamilton definitely has the screen presence for a no-nonsense military-type.

We don’t have much details on new characters, but we do see a chubby kid with glasses standing next to Erica (Priah Ferguson), so maybe the gang gets one more adorable kid to join all the weirdness that’s going to be ensuing in Hawkins for one last time (hopefully).

We don’t know when we can get a first official trailer, but with production ongoing and special effects expected to be extensive, Netflix may have to wait until later in the year to give fans their first look.

Stranger Things 5 is set to premiere sometime next year.

The Whale Stars a Morbidly Obese Brendan Fraser https://www.geekfeed.com/the-whale-stars-a-morbidly-obese-brendan-fraser/ Thu, 10 Nov 2022 02:24:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71953 Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest stars of the early 2000s, but he has since disappeared into obscurity after some behind-the-scenes problems pushed him out of he spotlight. Eager for a comeback, Fraser was cast to lead Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale—to which he gained a lot of critical praise when it debuted a few months ago at the Venice International Film Festival. Now A24 is gearing up to release the film to a wider audience, and we have our first teaser.

Watch this:

The movie is based on a play of the same name written by Samuel D. Hunter. The premise reads: An obese and reclusive English teacher (Fraser) tries to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) for one last chance at redemption.

Though Fraser was considered an action star in his prime, it’s interesting to see him take on a more dramatic role—and one where he’s almost unrecognizable as the morbidly obese Charlie. Though the original play does have some comedic elements to it, I think A24 really wants to lean into the drama of the film. After all, you don’t promote a Darren Aronofsky film without making sure that the audience knows it’s going to contain a profound amount of human misery.

I’m actually excited for Fraser’s comeback, and I’m kind of disappointed we don’t get to see more of the movie in this trailer. Hopefully we get something more by the end of the month.

The Whale comes to cinemas on Dec. 9.

The Whale Reveals First Look at 600-Pound Brendan Fraser https://www.geekfeed.com/600-pound-brendan-fraser-in-the-whale/ Fri, 29 Jul 2022 10:17:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70307 Brendan Fraser is slowly making his way back to the big screen, and though he won’t be fighting any mummies soon, he has teamed up with Darren Aronofsky for a movie called The Whale based on the hit play.

Now thanks to A24, we have our first look at Fraser as the 600-pound character Charlie:

https://twitter.com/A24/status/1551979707310170113

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.

Besides Fraser, the movie also includes the likes of Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) who will be playing Charlie’s daughter. Samantha Morton, Hong Chau, and Ty Simpkins have also been cast in roles.

While Fraser has been mostly known for action movies, it’s going to be interesting to see him play this grossly unhealthy character. If you’ve watched Aronofsky’s previous work, you’ll know that he has a penchant for depicting human misery, whether it be some young addicts in Requiem for a Dream or an aging, sick pro-wrestler in The Wrestler. A team-up with Fraser is definitely interesting, and with the film releasing under the A24 banner, you can expect an army of self-proclaimed cinephiles to already be lining up on opening day.

The Whale has no specific release date yet, but the movie is expected to premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival which takes place from Aug. 31–Sept. 10.

Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2 Gets a New Trailer Ahead of Next Week’s Release https://www.geekfeed.com/stranger-things-4-vol-2-gets-a-new-trailer-ahead-of-next-weeks-release/ Sun, 26 Jun 2022 17:42:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=66643 Netflix is doing something different with Stranger Things this season, what with the longer episode times and mid-season break, but the show is ready to come back next week, and everyone wants to know what will be up with all the characters spread throughout the state (or rather, the globe).

Just in, we have a new trailer for Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2, and it picks up on all the narrative threads from Volume 1:

While it did end in a cliffhanger, the trailer does confirm that Nancy manages to break out of Vecna’s trance, but we don’t know what kind of lasting effects that could be sticking with her after that Joyce, Murray, and Hopper are still in Russia, and they may have found a piece of the Mind Flayer that the commies have found to experiment on.

With us having watched all the characters come together in previous seasons, it looks like the Duffer Brothers wanted to up the challenge by having everyone go apart with their own separate missions. Even though a reunion is inevitable, I think that each group of friends is still fun to watch, and it’s going to be all the more meaningful when we finally see everyone come together.

Besides, the new characters that we’ve met have all been pretty fun to watch. Besides the return of Lucas’ sassy sister Erica, a lot of fans have also found themselves enamoured with Hawkins ‘freak’ Eddie. Not to mention the Duffers have created a great new character with Vecna.

Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2 returns to Netflix this coming July 1.
