According to Vanity Fair, the story is said to take place in only one location with a fixed camera angle that will not move or zoom in. Instead, we’re going to get glimpses of things from different eras and where they were in the actual space that the movie is set in.

The movie is actually an adaptation of a 2014 graphic novel from Richard McGuire, and it should give fans an idea of what to expect when it comes to the movie’s storytelling technique. You can check it out here.

The story of here is said to take place around the course of a 100 years, and though the living room is the main setting for the film, we’ll be able to see the space even before a house was built in it, and when Native American tribes would occupy the space. The movie is said to tell the story of multiple families who had occupied the space, but one of the main arcs will be that of Richard (Hanks) and Margaret (Wright) who will have lived their whole lives in the home.

Other members of the cast include Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, Ophelia Lovibond, and Gwilym Lee.

Admittedly, Zemeckis has been criticized for putting too much focus on technical milestones as compared to actually telling a story, but it does seem like Here has a very interesting angle when it comes to the narrative it wants to sell.

Sure, there are some doubts when it comes to the use of AI and de-aging actors, but I think that’s all a necessary part in pulling off the film’s visual language. Then again, I’m just speculating; until we get the first trailer, all we can do is guess.

Catch Here when it releases in theatres on Nov. 15.

Damsel Trailer Flips the Princess Trope with Millie Bobby Brown https://www.geekfeed.com/damsel-trailer-with-millie-bobby-brown/ Wed, 14 Feb 2024 10:45:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81062 Millie Bobby Brown has been the face of strong female protagonists since Stranger Things and Enola Holmes, and now she’s ready to go the fantasy route with the upcoming Netflix movie Damsel. The movie is set to hit streaming this March, and Netflix has dropped a new trailer that has Brown pulling a Gandalf and going up against a flaming winged monster.

Check this out:

The official description of the film reads:

A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.

The movie is being directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who was also the director behind 28 Weeks Later. Brown is also joined by a cast which includes Ray Winstone (Beowulf), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), and Robin Wright (House of Cards).

Just like with Enola Holmes flipping the script on the sleuth detective, Damsel also looks to play with the fantasy genre in that we have a princess that is tasked to slay a dragon herself rather than wait for a prince to save her.

With Stranger Things coming back in 2025, Damsel should be right up the alley for anyone missing Brown on their screens going up against insurmountable odds. Hopefully it has more to say about the fantasy trope, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Watch out for Brown when Damsel hits streaming on March 8, only on Netflix.

Millie Bobby Brown Must Slay a Dragon in First Teaser for Damsel https://www.geekfeed.com/slay-a-dragon-in-first-teaser-for-damsel/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 14:04:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79618 Stranger Things may be gearing up for its final season, but star Millie Bobby Brown isn’t any less busy. Besides her Enola Holmes movies, she’s set to star in an upcoming fantasy-action movie called Damsel.

Watch the reveal teaser here:

The official description of the film reads:

A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.

Besides Brown, the movie also has a cast which includes the likes of Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, and Ray Winstone. The film is also being directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who was behind filmslike 28 Weeks Later and 2011’s Intruders starring Clive Owen.

While everyone is familiar with the term “Damsel in Distress” we can expect Damsel to possibly subvert multiple tropes when it comes to the fantasy genre. We already have a princess and a dragon; but how will they handle other expected fantasy elements like the prince and evil queen, and other kinds of fantastical creatures.

With the SAG-AFTRA Strike officially over, Brown and the rest of her Stranger Things co-stars can get back to work; but we will have to wait before we can get back to the world of Hawkins, Indiana. Hopefully Damsel will manage to keep fans satisfied until then.

Damsel is set to release on Netflix sometime in 2024.
