The Tokyo Game Show just did a huge showcase for the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and while the game looks as fine as expected of a Kojima game, a lot of people took notice of the photo mode.

You’re just going to have to see it to believe it:

While regular video game photo mode usually just stops time in the game so players can move the camera around and take a screenshot, DS2 is different in that photo mode will have the characters be aware of the camera, resulting in them doing all kinds of poses when the mode is on. What’s more, when you snap a photo, it also puts it through this harsh light filter; like an actual camera flash happened.

The voiceover for Death Stranding 2 does reveal that the photo mode may have some kind of influence from the story, and it’s possible that the player can collect these polaroids that they took and hang them on a bulletin board on the ship. It’s not clear if there’s more significance than that, but anyone is happy for the chance to play pretend model photographer for actresses like Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna.

Watch out for Death Stranding 2: on the Beach when it releases for PS5 and PS5 Pro sometime in 2025.
