With so many iterations of Zelda though, the Sonic writers have revealed they actually want to have their own spin in theaters someday.

Talking to IGNSonic writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller talk about wanting to make an adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, but only after the live-action movie from Wes Ball gets finished. When asked about any potential projects, Miller discussed:

“I think another easy one I think we can answer because the movie’s already happening and we’re already not doing it would be a Zelda. I remember always when we played Wind Waker, we were always like, man, I mean, it would probably be weird if they made a Zelda movie to start with Wind Waker versus the more classic Hyrule. But we both loved Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. Yeah. So after they make this Zelda movie, I guess we’re putting it out there in the world, maybe we can do a Wind Waker spin-off.”

For context, The Legend of Zelda series kind of reboots itself with every entry (like Final Fantasy), but it just keeps specific story elements like Link, Zelda, Ganon, and the Kingdom of Hyrule. The Wind Waker was a game that released for the GameCube, and featured a more animated art-style for Link and the rest of the world.

It’s still unclear what the plan for the live-action Zelda movie is, but a lot are expecting some high-visual fantasy akin to that of the recent Dungeons and Dragons movie. Since there were some fans hoping for an animated Zelda adventure, maybe The Wind Waker could be their way in.

After all, the Spider-Verse films have been considered great, and that’s with the live-action Spider-Man also being in theaters.

We don’t know when a Wind Waker movie could actually happen, but fans can enjoy Casey and Miller’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 now in theaters.

Aardman Studios Announces Collab with Pokemon https://www.geekfeed.com/aardman-studios-announces-collab-with-pokemon/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 12:06:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85603 Aardman Studios is a legend when it comes to stop motion animation, and while they’re best known for properties like Wallace and Gromit, they’ve been doing some collaborations with other brands recently like Star Wars and Over The Garden Wall.

Now their next collab has been announced, and it’s with mega-brand Pokemon. Check out the post:

It hasn’t been confirmed what kind of project the collaboration is going to be, but with a release date set for 2027, it’s possible this could be something long-form, like a movie or a miniseries. According to VGC, the announcement said:

“The collaboration will see Aardman bringing its unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures.”

The Pokemon Company International VP of marketing Taito Okiura also said about the collab, “This is a dream partnership for Pokémon… Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”

Though Pokemon is best known for being an anime property outside of the games, there was an attempt at a stop-motion miniseries last year with Netflix’s Pokemon Concierge. It didn’t exactly have Aardman’s cartoon flare, but it does give people an idea of how Pokemon can work in the medium.

We don’t know when Aardman will be ready to make their official reveal for the project, but it’s kind of puzzling why they would announce a collaboration that’s 3 years away from release. Don’t they usually make reveals a few months before the premiere?

Expect the Pokemon x Aardman collab to come out sometime in 2027.

Light of Motiram: Fans Say Tencent’s Upcoming Game Ripped Off Horizon Zero Dawn https://www.geekfeed.com/light-of-motiram-ripped-off-horizon-zero-dawn/ Sat, 30 Nov 2024 11:14:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85450 Nintendo may have gotten heated with Pocket Pair Inc. when a lot of people were saying that Palworld had blatantly ripped off Pokemon, but now a new game looks to be ripped off by Nintendo’s Chinese collaborator Tencent – Light of Motiram.

Fans just got a first look at Light of Motiram from Polaris Quest (a Tencent subsidiary), and a lot of people have noticed that the game looks suspiciously like Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn. According to Video Games Chronicle, the story of Motiram is also suspiciously like Horizon in that human civilization is dead, and robotic animals (called ‘mechanimals’) are roaming the land.

No doubt, the specifics of the story of Motiram could be different from Horizon, but so many early reactions online have already been pointing out how the game looks to have ripped off Guerilla—from the design of the mechanimals to the game’s overall visual language of hostile animals being red and the friendly ones glowing blue; even the lighting in the game is the same.

To be fair though, Motiram does have some orginal elements that weren’t present in Horizon. There’s co-op multiplayer that will be available in the game, and players also have the ability to craft shelters. The variety of weapons also makes it feel like this is not just a straight Horizon clone, but maybe a meshing of the game with Monster Hunter.

For now, fans are urging Guerilla to take legal action, but in the meantime, it looks like everyone is just waiting to see what happens.

No release date has been set for Light of Motiram.

Zelda Takes the Lead as Link Disappears in Announcement for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom https://www.geekfeed.com/announcement-the-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom/ Fri, 21 Jun 2024 11:20:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82972 Everyone who plays The Legend of Zelda knows that it’s Link who is the main playable character of the franchise, but Nintendo is now giving fans a Zelda game where you can actually play as the titular character.

Check out The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom announcement here:

It’s up to Princess Zelda to save Hyrule in a brand-new The Legend of Zelda story.

As anyone who plays Zelda can tell, this is definitely a subversion of the very common trope in the games where Link has to save Zelda in one way or another.

In Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda isn’t given a sword or shield, but a magical staff, the Tri Rod, which will allow Zelda to make copies of certain items she sees along the way. Not only can she make duplicates of every day items like rocks and beds; but she can also make copies of living things—summoning some brutes that can fight for her.

Though Link the central character of the story it does look like he’ll still be playable in some sense. I’m guessing that Zelda will have to save Link this time, and then players will have to switch out between the two with Zelda paving the way with her Tri Rod and Link doing all the heavy lifting that Zelda can’t.

Hopefully we get another look at the game before it launches in a few months.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches for the Nintendo Switch on Sept. 26.

LEGO Reveals Their Official The Legend of Zelda Set https://www.geekfeed.com/lego-reveals-official-the-legend-of-zelda-set/ Wed, 29 May 2024 18:21:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82658 LEGO fans have been trying to get a Legend of Zelda set for years, and since LEGO has recently teamed-up with Nintendo for some Super Mario merch, it was only a matter of time before they released an official LOZ set.

Now LEGO has officially revealed it. Check out the announcement:

According to The Verge, The Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 set will have 2500 pieces and will cost USD 299.99. The set actually draws inspiration from two mainline Zelda games—Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild; and you can change the foliage of the Deku Tree to be either pink or green.

As far as minifigs go, there will be three different versions of Link uncluding a child and adult version from Ocarina of Time with the green tunic, and a Breath of the Wild version with the blue tunic. Of course, it also wouldn’t be Legend of Zelda if there wasn’t a minifig of Zelda as well.

Looking at the set, there are also several callbacks to the games including a skulltula and koroks. You can even see Hestu playing with some maracas and some fairies who may offer some unsolicited advice.

This should be a great set for longtime LEGO/Zelda fans, but hopefully we get some more diverse kits to coincide with the release of the live-action Legend of Zelda movie which is currently in the works with director Wes Ball.

LEGO’s Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 set based on The Legend of Zelda is expected to start shipping out this September.

The Legend of Zelda Director Wants to Make a Live-Action Miyazaki Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/zelda-director-wants-live-action-miyazaki-movie/ Sat, 09 Dec 2023 17:40:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80000 Hayao Miyazaki and his movies with Studio Ghibli have been lauded for their unique and colorful visuals, and they remain a powerhouse in the animation industry. Miyazaki’s influence has been apparent in multiple animated films (like Disney Pixar’s Luca), but it looks like someone wants to emulate his style for live-action.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, The Legend of Zelda director Wes Ball talks a bit about his approach to a Zelda movie to which he explains his vision, “this awesome fantasy-adventure movie that isn’t like Lord of the Rings, it’s its own thing. I’ve always said, I would love to see a live-action Miyazaki. That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that.”

Buzz about a Zelda movie had been going around ever since the success of the animated Super Mario Bros. movie starring Chris Pratt; and a lot of fans also thought that maybe an animated Zelda would be the way to go.

Regardless, having Miyazaki be the blueprint for a Zelda movie does sound like the best idea, especially with the games being known for their colorful fantasy worlds and amazing creatures. Miyazaki’s latest work, The Boy and the Heron, has been getting sparkling reviews from critics ever since it released:

It could be a while before we get a look at the Legend of Zelda film, but a lot of people already have a Zelda in mind with Euphoria star Hunter Schafer. Let’s hope they manage to cast Link soon.

No release date has been set for the Legend of Zelda film adaptation.

Maze Runner’s Wes Ball to Direct Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/ball-to-direct-live-action-legend-of-zelda-movie/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 17:51:39 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79531 Wes Ball is currently gearing up for the release of his Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but it looks like he’s going to be jumping into the world of Hyrule in the next few years.

As announced by Nintendo, Ball is now attached to direct a live-action adaptation of the Legend of Zelda franchise. The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc. (as in Avi Arad of the Spider-Man movies), with Nintendo providing more than 50% of the financing and Sony Pictures in charge of the distribution.

We don’t have any more specifics like casting, or even concept art, but based on what we’ve seen from the Maze Runner films and the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie, Ball does know how to tackle some huge worlds with some high-end digital effects.

After the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. animated movie, a lot of people had speculated that Nintendo would start opening up their IP to even more adaptations; and The Legend of Zelda was everyone’s guess for the next upcoming film. Though I was expecting the feature to be animated, it does seem that Ball already has a good idea of what he wants the movie to be. After all, he did say it was his dream project way back in 2010.

As for Zelda, the games have been known to reboot its story with every entry, so we can expect the movie to do the same with its timeline. They just have to set it in Hyrule, and have Link, Zelda, and Ganon as central characters. Hopefully we get a look at it sometime next year.

The Legend of Zelda movie is yet to have a release date.

Charles Martinet Steps Down as Voice of Super Mario https://www.geekfeed.com/martinet-steps-down-as-voice-of-super-mario/ Wed, 30 Aug 2023 01:25:39 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78437 Charles Martinet has been the man behind the voice of Super Mario since Super Mario 64, and he’s been a beloved figure in Nintendo’s history. As it turns out, after 30 years of providing the voice for everyone’s favorite video game plumber, Martinet is stepping down from the role.

Here’s the announcement from Nintendo:

Though Martinet won’t be voicing Mario anymore, the company does say that he’s being kept on as a ‘Mario Ambassador’ and that he will ‘continue to travel the world sharing the joy of Mario and interacting with you all!’

It may be a matter of time that Martinet would finally retire from voicing Mario, but one can’t help but think that this has something to do with The Super Mario Bros. Movie giving Mario a different voice (specifically Chris Pratt’s voice), and not making him as cartoon-y as Martinet’s signature performance.

If anything, Mario has kind of outgrown the cartoonish ‘wahoo!’ persona based on how he’s evolved in the games, and it’s possible that Nintendo just wants to pivot to a more serious Mario that could be the protagonist of his own kid-friendly platformers—like Sonic the Hedgehog.

As for Martinet, I’m sure he still has more things to do with Mario, even if he won’t be providing the voice anymore. One thing’s for sure, fans still love him, and would still want to know what he has to say about the character in the future.

The next Super Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, is set to release for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 20.

Did Nintendo Give ‘Jiggle Physics’ to Link’s Balls in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? https://www.geekfeed.com/jiggle-physics-to-links-balls-in-legend-of-zelda/ Mon, 24 Jul 2023 17:16:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77891 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is going down to be contender for Game of the Year 2023, and a lot of fans had been having fun at the new building system the game offers. Last week though, fans were having a laugh when someone discovered that Nintendo may have given Link’s package some ‘jiggle physics’.

Check this out:

The tweet had earned something close to 50,000 likes and has been viewed more than a million times, but despite everyone having a laugh at Link’s expense, it’s been revealed that it’s not actually his balls that are slightly jiggling in the clip.

As explained by @konjak, it’s actually clipping on the character model that’s giving the illusion of ball physics, and it’s not something that Nintendo initially intended.

If anything, racy easter eggs in games are always prevalent, whether they intentionally come from developers or is something that the online community just made up. Back in 2017, the internet was going crazy over a controversy that 2B’s character model from Nier: Automata had a butthole, and fans of Horizon Forbidden West had recently set the forums ablaze when someone discovered that the in-game model of Aloy had actual nipples.

Jiggle physics or none, you can’t deny that characters like Link and Zelda are going to have some kind of sexualization online. I mean, that’s why Rule 34 of the internet exists; look it up.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Officially Reveals Next Mario Side-Scrolling Game Super Mario Bros. Wonder https://www.geekfeed.com/nintendo-reveals-super-mario-bros-wonder/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 17:40:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77428 Nintendo had done of plenty reveals for their recent Nintendo Direct event, but the whole show was ended with the announcement for the next big Mario side-scrolling game.

Take a look at Super Mario Bros. Wonder:

Surprise and wonder await at every corner in the next evolution of 2D side-scrolling Mario fun!

The game promises to bring us back to the original formula of the Mario games with Mario and his companions running around special kingdoms collecting all kinds of power-ups and gaining super powers.

With Wonder, Nintendo has added a bunch more abilities besides growing and using fire, and Mario and friends earn the ability to swim, fly, and even transform into different kinds of animals. We’re also introduced to the concept of the Wonder Seed, and it looks like these will be able to alter the environment completely in ways that players won’t be able to predict, from elongating Mario’s body, to suddenly summoning a wave of pipes from the ground.

With The Super Mario Bros. Movie being a huge success in the box office, now is the right time to get a new generation of kids hooked on Super Mario, and what better way to do that than to introduce a new game that sticks to the formula of the original Mario games—which the movie drew a lot of influence from.

If you ask me, it’s probably a great chance to introduce more power-up concepts and kingdoms that could appear in a future Mario film. Talk about brand synergy.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 20.

The Legend of Zelda Developers on a Possible Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/the-legend-of-zelda-developers-on-a-movie/ Wed, 24 May 2023 14:52:23 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76922 The Super Mario Bros. Movie had grossed over a billion dollars, and fans are now wondering if Nintendo is interested in adapting more IP in the future.

Since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just launched, Polygon asked producer Eiji Aonuma what his thoughts on a Zelda movie would be, to which he replied, “I have to say, I am interested. For sure. But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.” Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi also added, Maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.”

Unlike Super Mario which doesn’t really have an extensive plot to follow, The Legend of Zelda has always been more of a traditional fantasy story. Interestingly though, all the games don’t tell one cohesive canon, but rather reimagine the story of Link, Zelda, and Ganon, with a whole new version of Hyrule.

Should Nintendo tackle a movie, I think they would have to release a serious fantasy film with solid rules and lore. The good news is, since Zelda is all about reinventing itself with every entry, the movie could possibly start its own new canon and just draw inspiration from multiple games as they push forward.

Though Super Mario did make a lot of money, I did think that the story could have used a bit more brushing up on Illumination’s part. Should they take on Zelda, maybe the studio should pick an animation house that has delivered on fantasy before; like Dreamworks Animation and they’re How to Train Your Dragon series.

No Zelda movie has been announced, but you can check out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom now available for the Nintendo Switch.

Chris Pratt and Charlie Day Tried Out Different Voices for Mario and Luigi https://www.geekfeed.com/pratt-and-day-tried-different-voices-for-mario/ Fri, 21 Apr 2023 17:53:00 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76427 Chris Pratt has a pretty distinct voice, and a lot of people were wondering how he was going to deal with being cast as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Pratt and Charlie Day (Luigi) talk about how they eventually settled with the voices we got from the film. Day explains, We tried different things, different voices… Every now and then they would say, ‘Charlie, maybe a little less Goodfellas in this one’ — I’m like, ‘Alright! I think you’re wrong, but fine!’ — until they landed on something they liked.” Pratt also adds, For a minute, I walked in and they were like, ‘That’s a little New Jersey. You’re doing a Tony Soprano thing.'”

Though Mario only talks with a slight Brooklyn accent in the film, the movie actually takes time to explain his cartoonish voice, with Mario using it for their plumber ad. Even then we also get some more Mario catchphrases from Pratt in the film like him saying, “Let’s a-go!” and his “Wahoo!” on the Rainbow Road.

While the story could definitely use some brushing up, you have to commend The Super Mario Bros. Movie for actually embracing the game, and adding as much elements of it as they could from floating bricks to power-ups. We don’t know where a sequel could go yet, but we did get a Yoshi tease, and Peach did mention an entire ‘Galaxy’ (as in Super Mario Galaxy) to explore.

Catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie now tearing it up in theaters.

Link is Hyrule’s Last Hope in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom https://www.geekfeed.com/link-is-hyrules-last-hope-in-tears-of-the-kingdom/ Fri, 14 Apr 2023 12:15:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76334 It was 2017 when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released alongside the Nintendo Switch, and now fans are excited for the release of the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, six years later. Just in, we have a new trailer for the game, and it expands on the world of Hyrule as well as Link’s mission.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the game:

An epic adventure awaits in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game, only on the Nintendo Switch system.

In this sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?

Though the story of Tears of the Kingdom is still pretty vague, the main hook of the game is definitely Link’s expanded roster to abilities, from being able to reverse time on objects, to being able to travel through ceilings, no matter how high.

Tears also promises a new combat system that allows Link to craft all kinds of weapons, no matter how silly; and he’s also able to craft vehicles as well that could help him traverse through the land or sea.

It all seems pretty extensive for a platform like the Switch, but hopefully Nintendo has managed to make it happen.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches for the Nintendo Switch on May 12.

Release Date for The Super Mario Bros. Movie Pushed Up https://www.geekfeed.com/super-mario-bros-movie-pushed-up/ Fri, 03 Mar 2023 09:16:02 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73572 A lot of fans have expressed their excitement for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and it looks like the studio is willing to make the wait a little more bearable.

As per the official announcement, the Super Mario movie has been pushed up by two days, and has been moved from its release on April 7 to April 5. Check this out:

We don’t have any specific reasons as to why the film was pushed forward, but I can imagine that this could come as a relief for some die-hard fans who want to watch the movie on the first day. Maybe the cinema won’t be as crowded on Wednesday as compared to the crowds that could be expected on a weekend premiere. Then again, I’m just guessing.

So far, it seems that this movie has been showing fans exactly what they want to see out of a Mario movie. The characters are colorful, and the Mushroom Kingdom looks to be magical and vibrant; not to mention there’s all kinds of easter eggs that come from decades of Super Mario games.

Admittedly, the marketing is still being very sparing of Chris Pratt’s Mario voice. There was immense backlash online when it was announced that Charles Marinet won’t be providing the voice like he has in the games, but I think Pratt will do a good job making Mario more of an everyman character.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now set to release on April 5.

Taron Egerton Stars in Crazy True Story about the Rise of Tetris https://www.geekfeed.com/taron-egerton-stars-in-true-story-about-tetris/ Fri, 17 Feb 2023 15:28:31 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73424 Tetris is probably one of the more iconic video games to have ever been made, and the game had released way back in the 80s. As it turns out, there’s actually a pretty crazy story about how the game became widely released, and it all involves a big clash with the Soviet Union.

Watch the trailer for Tetris starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocket Man):

Here’s the official description for the film:

An American and Russian computer geek form an unlikely friendship as they try to evade the KGB and smuggle the world’s most famous video game out of the Soviet Union.

The movie comes from Jon S. Baird who had also directed Filth and the Laurel and Hardy biopic Stan & Ollie. Other stars of the film include Toby Jones, Sofya Lebedeva, Ben Miles, Rick Yune, and Roger Allam.

With so many other video games getting adaptations these days with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Last of Us, it’s actually interesting that they managed to get a story out of a puzzle game where you have to create straight lines out of blocks. There’s even a tease for the first Gameboy.

I’ll admit, I didn’t expect the trailer to go as crazy as having the KGB involved, but if that really did happen, it would definitely make for a great story—and it’s one we’re getting when Tetris premieres later next month.

Tetris comes to Apple TV+ on March 31.

Watch Hilarious New Spot for the Super Mario Bros. Movie this April, and Illumination Entertainment has decided to ride along the Super Bowl hype with a new TV spot. The spot essentially plays out like an in-universe ad for Mario and Luigi’s plumbing service, and there’s a neat Easter Egg for longtime Super Mario fans.

Check it:

As some fans online have pointed out, the voice of the woman in the ad is actually provided by Jeannie Elias, the original Princess Peach (or Princess Toadstool) in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

Another crazy detail that fans spotted in the trailer is that you can actually see the color of the green screen on Mario and Luigi presumably from when they were shooting the sequence:

Besides that, you can see that a lot of the original character designs from the games were used for Mario and Luigi’s plumbing service, and we also have a hint at the iconic Super Mario theme, which was also played during the scene where Mario is introduced to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Though a lot of people were originally apprehensive to the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, it looks like the film is going to be one great animated action adventure. Besides the fact that a lot of the film looks great, we also have a lot of Easter Eggs pointing back to the original game, from boss levels to all kinds of other Super Mario charactrs. They even found a way to work Donkey Kong into the film.

Catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it hits theaters on April 7.

Link Returns in New Trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom https://www.geekfeed.com/link-returns-in-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom/ Tue, 14 Feb 2023 15:25:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73359 After the massive success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch, Nintendo is now ready to come back for the sequel featuring gaming’s most misnamed protagonist Link. Tears of the Kingdom is set to release this May, and we have a new trailer showing the expanded kingdom of Hyrule.

Check this out:

The official description reads:

An epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule awaits in The Legend of Zelda™: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch. The adventure is yours to create in a world fueled by your imagination.

In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?

Watch the latest trailer to see what Link’s latest quest has in store, including never before seen weapons and mysterious vehicles…

With the Nintendo Switch not really having the same kind of power that the Xbox or PlayStation has, it’s kind of mesmerizing how the game is promising this vast new world for players to explore.

I guess it’s also worth noting that Nintendo is now charging players $70 for the game, but with the rising prices of the competition, I think it was only a matter of time before Nintendo started charging some more for their titles. Hopefully it will all be worth it come May.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to release on May 1 for the Nintendo Switch.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets a Colorful New Poster https://www.geekfeed.com/the-super-mario-bros-movie-gets-a-colorful-new-poster/ Fri, 10 Feb 2023 06:52:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73335 Move over Sonic the Hedgehog, because another video game mascot is looking to dominate movie theaters later this year. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to come out in April, and we have a colorful new poster that gives us a look at all the characters in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Check this out:

This movie just continues to amaze when it comes to visuals alone. Not only do all the colors in the movie really pop, but they’ve also managed to capture the original design of the characters in the game while updating their look for modern animated films.

Even the characterization for everyone is fun. Jack Black’s Bowser looks pretty damn menacing, and they’ve made Princess Peach an actual leader of her people. I also kind of love how Chris Pratt’s Mario came out. He doesn’t have the cartoon voice, but it does sound like they gave him that Italian-American accent; Luigi is also pretty loveable as Mario’s cowardly brother.

With Super Mario having endured all these years with the games, I’m excited to see Illumination try to bring this story to life on the big screen. I’ll admit, I’m not a fan of those Minion movies, but based on what we’ve seen in the trailers, The Super Mario Bros. Movie could be a step up when it comes to video game adaptations.

A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess.

The Super Mario Bros Movie comes to cinemas on April 7.

The Mushroom Kingdom Comes to Life in Clip from The Super Mario Bros. Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/super-mario-bros-movie-clip-released/ Mon, 12 Dec 2022 09:02:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72418 Wahoo! After a fresh new trailer drop a week ago, the Game Awards has opted for Nintendo and Illumination Stidios to give a new look at the Super Mario Bros. Movie, and we have a new clip of Mario being introduced to the Mushroom Kingdom.

The clip basically teases how much of the original game they were able to squeeze into the film.  You can see the Mushroom people getting coins from boxes like Mario does, and the town is just filled with floating platforms and bricks which are also precariously placed. They even found a way to incorporate the Super Mario background music into the score.

Since Mario is a plumber, we also get to see him excited about the pipes in the world. Admittedly, he doesn’t fix those kinds of pipes, but the movie has managed to make them a means of travel for the Mushroom People—hence we get to see Mario travelling in them as well.

A lot of flak has been thrown at the film ever since they announced Chris Pratt was going to be Mario, but based on what we’ve seen, I think Illumination and Nintendo have built a film that both fans of the original and newcomers will love. I think the Mario franchise has managed to last so long with as minimal context as possible, so you have to hand it to the movie for actually adding some context to the film without it looking too silly.

Catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it hits cinemas on April 7, 2023.

AThird Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Dropped https://www.geekfeed.com/a-third-super-mario-bros-movie-trailer-dropped/ Sat, 03 Dec 2022 12:42:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72262 A lot of fans were sceptical about the Chris Pratt-led Super Mario movie, but the latest trailer seems to have changed a lot of people’s minds. What’s odd is, the second trailer released was sort of sparing when it came to the use of Pratt’s voice, but there has been a third trailer that dropped that actually features more of Pratt talking as Mario.

Ever since Pratt was announced to be the voice of Mario, there had been a fan outcry to have longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet to play the part for the film. After the release of the trailer though, I think it’s clear that Illumination wants a different, more grounded take on Mario; and it would be hard for audiences to take the character more seriously when he sounds like he does from the video games.

So far, the movie looks fantastic, and fans have been able to spot hundreds of Easter Eggs just from the second trailer alone. It’s actually kind of insane how much references they could squeeze into the film from the game—from the transporting pipes, to the intricate level designs.

I don’t know where Illumination plans to take the Super Mario movie franchise soon, but I have a feeling it’s going to knock Sonic the Hedgehog out of the water.

A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to hit theaters on April 7, 2023.
