The movie is set to hit theatres in February, and we have a new teaser with some trippy visuals and a very creepy toy monkey. Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis:

When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.

The movie is actually based on a short story from Stephen King (IT, Carrie), and it’s also being produced by James Wan (Saw). The movie also stars Theo James (The Gentlemen), Elijah Wood (Over the Garden Wall), and Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).

Though the original story from King is pretty short, it’s very likely that it will be expanded for the movie. I don’t want to spoil exactly what the monkey does (because it’s already in the synopsis of the book), but it does feel like this could be Perkins’ take on the ‘coincidental murder’ genre that was popularized by The Omen and completely owned by the Final Destination movies.

I’ll admit, Longlegs wasn’t exactly the best horror story to ever come out, but the film was such an absolute vibe that it will leave audiences unsettled long after the credits start rolling.

Watch out for The Monkey when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 21, 2025.

Presence Trailer: Is Steven Soderbergh Doing a Horror Movie? https://www.geekfeed.com/presence-trailer-soderbergh-doing-a-horror-movie/ Mon, 07 Oct 2024 19:20:04 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84594 Director Steven Soderbergh is probably best known for his ensemble movies with films like Magic Mike, Logan Lucky, and the Ocean’s franchise. He’s a pretty versatile director, and it looks like he’s going to be tackling a horror movie next.

Check out the eerie trailer for Presence:

The teaser is basically just a slow zoom in of a woman sleeping, but the captions just slowly get creepier with them reading “In this house, she will feel love,” then “In this house she will feel loss,” to “In this house she will feel fear”, and finally ending with “In this house she will feel a—“ then smash cut to the title reveal of Presence.

We don’t know anything about the plot of the movie, besides that there’s a mysterious presence in the house. It’s also said that the movie will also have a first-person perspective to add to the creep factor of just what this entity is.

If I’m being honest, the movie does feel a lot like Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming film Here which also has the same kind of premise of a story just taking place from one POV. However, Presence does move the camera around, and it definitely looks like it’s going to be a creepy movie.

Though Soderbergh isn’t best known for horror, some do say that the best horror films often come from directors that don’t specialize in it at all. Who would have thought that Jordan Peele would be such an effective horror filmmaker after a long background in comedy?

Watch out for Presence when it comes to cinemas this January 2025.

Hunter Schafer’s ‘Cuckoo’ Co-Star Dan Stevens Throws Shade at Euphoria https://www.geekfeed.com/cuckoo-co-star-dan-stevens-on-euphoria/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 09:42:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83825 Hunter Schafer is best known for her work on Euphoria, but she’s recently been branching out to movies, what with her being the lead of Cuckoo.

With Euphoria being infamous for having  a very tiring production process, Schafer’s co-star Dan Stevens talks a bit about how it was great that Schafer actually got to work on a set that wasn’t so toxic—throwing shade at the HBO show.

Talking to Vanity Fair, Stevens talks about being able to work with Schafer, to which he said, “Her only experience prior to this was working on Euphoria, which is a very, very different experience, and by all accounts, not a terribly pleasant one. I think it was refreshing and delightful for her to realize that not every job needs to be like Euphoria. It was nice to be able to present that and to be a part of that. We can still shoot this incredibly f-cked-up, difficult scene, but everybody’s still friends at the end of the day and nobody needs to have months of therapy afterwards.”

Just in case you’re not updated on the situation with Euphoria director Sam Levinson, it’s been reported that he has been making the productions for Euphoria and his recent series The Idol nightmares for the cast and crew.

Instead of coming to the set prepared with a shot list, Levinson is said to arrive with no actual plan, spending the entirety of the shoot improvising shots and requiring everyone to stay for hours longer. It’s unclear exactly what Schafer’s experience has been on the show, but any fan who’s seen the show knows that she has very intense sex scenes with a middle-aged man.

Add that to Stevens’ statement, and it was possible that Schafer may have shared some horror stories with him while they were working on Cuckoo. Either way, everyone is just happy to see Schafer working on other things, but they’d probably still want to see her reprise Jules one more time for a final season of Euphoria.

Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

Cuckoo is set to release in US theaters Aug. 9.

A Dog and a Robot Become Best Friends in Animated Trailer for NEON’s Robot Dreams https://www.geekfeed.com/animated-trailer-for-neons-robot-dreams/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 09:48:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82096 Studio NEON has been known mostly for its dark and disturbing films, but the studio is going a different direction with their upcoming film Robot Dreams. The animated movie is set to come out this summer, and we have a new trailer to hype up the release.

Check this out:

The official description reads:

Dog lives in Manhattan and he’s tired of being alone. One day he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, until they become inseparable, to the rhythm of 80’s NYC. One summer night, DOG, with great sadness, is forced to abandon ROBOT at the beach.

Will they ever meet again?

Just from watching the trailer, you can kind of get some BoJack Horseman vibes off the movie, but the animation is clearly more dynamic and fluid. Like the trailer also suggests, early reviews for the movie have been great, and with NEON’s reputation with movies, it’s possible this could be a more adult-oriented picture.

With Disney, DreamWorks, and all the other big animated studios stepping away from 2D animation, it’s  considered pretty balls-y for Robot Dreams to go for the theatrical release. Who knows, maybe some people will be willing to give this film a shot, but so far, it does feel like the marketing is a bit on the soft side.

Maybe we’ll get to see more of this pop up on the news feed when May comes around next week. Catch Robot Dreams when it hits theaters on May 31.

Ilana Glazer Stars in Modern Pregnancy Comedy in Trailer for Babes https://www.geekfeed.com/modern-pregnancy-comedy-in-trailer-for-babes/ Mon, 08 Apr 2024 10:11:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81814 Broad City star Ilana Glazer may have went the horror pregnancy route with her 2021 film False Positive, but she’s now ready to go back to her comedy roots with the upcoming film Babes. Just in, we have a new trailer, and it features Glazer doing what she does best—doing drugs and getting laid.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

BABES follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), having grown up together in NYC, now firmly in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge. BABES delves into the complexities of female friendship with a blend of laughter, tears, and labor pains.

As a Broad City fan, it is kind of disappointing to see Glazer not be alongside her co-star Abbi Jacobson, but she still has fantastic chemistry with Michelle Buteau. Besides that, it does look like we should expect all the kinds of irresponsibility that comes with a comedy brand that Glazer is known for.

Probably the last modern pregnancy comedy was Baby Mama starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler which came out back in 2008, but seeing as to how much we know about pregnancy and adulthood has changed over the decade, Babes should have something new and interesting to say about Millenials who are expecting.

Babes is set to come to cinemas on May 17.

Cuckoo Trailer: Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens Star in What Looks to be a Modern Remake of The Shining https://www.geekfeed.com/cuckoo-trailer-modern-remake-of-the-shining/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 08:46:23 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81797 Sydney Sweeney isn’t the only Euphoria star that gets to lead a horror movie this year. Just in, Neon has dropped their first trailer for Cuckoo, and it stars none other than Hunter Schafer. Check it out:

The movie also stars Dan Stevens (Legion) and Jessica Henwick (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery). Here’s the official description:

Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

Just from the trailer alone, you can already feel that there is a kind of vibe that’s akin to the classic horror film The Shining, with the lead having to work in a solitary hotel where weird things just start to happen.

Besides Schafer being a magnetic star on her own right, the film has also cast Dan Stevens who just seems to be comfortable playing all kinds of kooky characters.

We don’t know exactly what to expect with Cuckoo besides what the title suggests—everything is just going to be one crazy ride.

Cuckoo is set to hit theaters on May 3.

Angry Christian Reviews are Being Used to Promote Sydney Sweeney’s Immaculate https://www.geekfeed.com/angry-christian-reviews-promote-immaculate/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 09:51:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81642 The moment a movie decides to have a subject matter close to Christianity, there’s always a chance that some angry believers are going to be bashing it online. They did it with The Da Vinci Code, and now they’re doing it with Immaculate starring Sydney Sweney.

With the movie out now—and gathering some very angry reviews from Christians—the Immaculate PR team has decided to embrace the hate and it has somehow became the perfect way to market the film. Check this out:

Even the studio Neon is getting in on the trand reposting this quote:

Libs saw how the anti-woke crowd embraced Sydney Sweeney as their new darling and right away had to shove he in this blasphemous, Satanic, feminist, pro-abortion, anti-life movie degrading Christians! The movie also debases Mary, Mother of Christ!”

You have to hand it to Sweeney. After being one of the standout cast members of Euphoria, she’s managed to appear in some Twitter-famous films such as Anyone But You, Madame Web, and now Immaculate.

It’s even more amazing when you consider that she’s also started being attached to the films as a producer, and she personally got Immaculate through the finish line.

We don’t know how the movie is going to end its theaterical run, but this strategy of using angry Christian reviews is definitley getting the attention of cinephiles online who like it when movies stick it to the status quo.

Immaculate starring Sydney Sweeney is now playing n theaters.

Parasite Actor Lee Sun-kyun Passes Away https://www.geekfeed.com/parasite-actor-lee-sun-kyun-passes-away/ Mon, 01 Jan 2024 13:03:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80263 Actor Lee Sun-kyun may be a local celebrity in Korea, but he was put on the global stage when Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite made its way to the Oscars. Though he has been doing steady work since the release of the film, it looks like fans won’t be seeing any more of him in the future.

As reported by Deadline, Lee has been reported dead after going missing in Seoul, South Korea. Authorities were said to have started looking for the actor when his family had reported him missing, and he had apparently left a message that some are saying are akin to a suicide note.

Lee’s body was found dead in a car at Seoul Park. The actor was 48-years-old.

Apparently right before his death, Lee was under investigation with the local police for drug use after the South Korean government had decided to crackdown on illegal drugs. As a result, Lee had to drop out of his drama No Way Out which had just started production.

In Parasite, Lee had played the part of Park Dong-ik, a wealthy architect who had lived an upper-class life with his family. Things took a turn for the worse for the Parks when the lower-class Kim family somehow swindle their way into their home as workers and tutors.

No official statement has been released from Lee’s family or any of his colleagues, but his fans online are definitely saddened to hear about the news of his sudden passing.

Thomasin McKenzie Gets Paired with Anne Hathaway in Dark Trailer for Eileen https://www.geekfeed.com/mckenzie-and-hathaway-in-dark-trailer-for-eileen/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 13:10:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79270 Thomasin McKenzie may be best known for her work in the light-hearted Jojo Rabbit, but she’s since moved on to more horror-focused films like Old and Last Night in Soho. Now she’s starring in what looks to be another creeper with Eileen.

Watch the trailer here:

Set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter, young secretary Eileen becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor at the prison where she works. Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret — throwing Eileen onto a sinister path.

The film is directed by William Oldroyd who had also been at the helm for Lady Macbeth, which starred another critical darling in the form of Florence Pugh. The movie had also been described as very ‘Hitchcockian’; pretty much like Eileen, so we should expect the same kind of tone to be all over this film.

Personally, the film feels like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, with Hathaway playing the part of the evil nurse, but it does throw a kind of curveball in the story in that McKenzie’s character looks to be Hathaway’s protégé, and we get to see them engage in what also seems to be an age-gap romance.

I think the last time we’ve seen a period lesbian film with an age gap like this was Ammonite with Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet. It’s going to be interesting to watch how both actresses will play off one another here.

Eileen is set to hit cinemas on Dec. 8.

Park Chan Wook’s Oldboy Getting Remastered and Rereleased in Theaters https://www.geekfeed.com/oldboy-remastered-and-rereleased-in-theaters/ Wed, 31 Aug 2022 17:14:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70824 Before self-proclaimed cinephiles were gushing about Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, Park Chan Wook’s Oldboy was the go-to mind-bending Korean film. The film turns 20-years-old next year, and it’s going to have a re-release in theaters.

This has been announced by the studio NEON, who confirms that a remaster and rerelease of Oldboy will be coming in 2023. Here’s the post:

The premise reads:

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in five days.

Here’s a fanmade trailer as well:

Hollywood actually tried to remake the film back in 2013 with Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen, but the movie wasn’t well-received, and a lot of fans still sing praises for the original version.

With so many great properties out now, I’m curious about how a film like Oldboy holds up. If you watch it at the right age though, there are several moments that are definitely memorable, from the hallway fight scene (before Daredevil made it a thing) and Oh Dae-su eating a live octopus. There’s also another twist in the end, but I’m not going to spoil any more of this absolutely bonkers movie.

Hopefully we get some kind of big announcement soon, because this film deserves the attention—especially since the 2013 remake left a bade taste in audience’s mouths.

No release date has been announced for the Oldboy remaster, but you can expect it to hit theaters sometime in 2023.
