Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night wants to tell the story of the crew building up to the first SNL show, and the film is set to hit theatres on October. Just in, a new trailer has dropped which teases more of the actual chaos that occurred on that night.

Check this out:

If you do even a little research on how SNL was conceived, you’ll definitely find a lot of stories of how chaotic it was, from the writers who hated Jim Henson and his muppetts to the actors like Chevy Chase and John Belushi being hard to work with.

Of course, Lorne Michaels is also considered to be a legendary producer nowadays when it comes to comedy, and it would definitely be interesting to see what kind of story he had when he was just starting out with a series that nobody thought would be a hit decades later.

At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television – and culture – forever. Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan & Reitman, Saturday Night is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Full of humor, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, we count down the minutes in real time until we hear those famous words…

Saturday Night is set to hit theaters on Oct. 11.

WATCH: BTS Featurette for SNL Biopic, Saturday Night https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-bts-featurette-for-saturday-night/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 12:08:55 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84098 Saturday Night Live is a huge comedy brand, and the show has been running for almost 50 years. Sony is currently gearing up to release a film which tells the story of the first airing of SNL called Saturday Night, and the movie is set to release in October.

Just in, we have a behind-the-scenes featurette with director Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), and he gives us an inside look on how much work it took to bring the film back to that fateful night in 1975. Check this out:

Lorne Michaels has always been a legend when it comes to comedy, and it’s going to be interesting to see him actually be a character in the film alongside other actors including John Belushi, Gilda Radner, and Chevy Chase. The movie is even giving the spotlight for other behind-the-scenes heroes like producer Rosie Shuster and Muppet creator Jim Henson (who the SNL writers apparently didn’t like).

Though it would have been plain enough to make a biopic about the making of the whole show, Saturday Night does have an interesting angle which only covers the 90 minutes before the show started. Admittedly, a lot of stories have been thrown around about just how chaotic that first airing was—from belligerent actors to angry writers—so it’s going to be interesting just how much the film will be able to put together to give audiences an idea of what happened before SNL blew up.

Six Seasons and a Movie!: Dan Harmon Updates on Community Movie Script https://www.geekfeed.com/harmon-updates-on-community-movie-script/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 09:08:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81229 It’s been almost ten years since the cult show Community ended, but everyone is still waiting for the movie to finally come out. Donald Glover had recently said that the script for the film was already done, but show creator Dan Harmon himself has a more accurate update on the status of the film.

Talking to Variety, Harmon confirms that Glover was ‘almost’ correct in that the script was ‘almost’ finished. He says:

“I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done,’… What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”

We still have no idea what the movie will be about, but at least we can confirm that we are going to be headed back to Greendale, which the Greendale Seven will probably have to save again one way or another.

The movie is set to bring back all original main cast members which include Joel McHale (Jeff), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Alison Brie (Annie), Danny Pudi (Abed), Donald Glover (Troy), Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley), Jim Rash (Dean Pelton), and Ken Jeong (Ben Chang). There has also been curiosity on whether Chevy Chase (Pierce) will make a cameo, but it’s likely he won’t be appearing especially with all the drama that came out while he was on the show.

“I’ve been having kind of a nervous breakdown the last couple of months just by working on it, and that’s a good thing because I’m having all kinds of flashbacks to 2009,” says Harmon about working on the film, “It’s gonna be awesome… I’m like, ‘Why am I crying about these characters?’”

No release date has been set for the Community movie, but you can check out the entire series (sans one D&D episode) now streaming on Netflix.

Madame Web Star Dakota Johnson Hated Being on The Office https://www.geekfeed.com/madame-web-johnson-hated-being-on-the-office/ Tue, 13 Feb 2024 11:35:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81029 A lot of fans were quick to dismiss the first trailer of Madame Web when it dropped, but for some odd reason, the film’s star Dakota Johnson has been stirring a lot of interest in the movie thanks to her press tour.

Johnson had already sparked interest among fans when she released that seductively charged promo video telling people to watch the film, and now she’s spilling the tea on Late Night with Seth Meyers by revealing that she had a small role in the hit sitcom The Office… and she hated being in it.

“That was honestly the worst time of my life. I loved that show so much, and they were like, ‘do you wanna be in the series finale,’ thinking I would be show up for half a day, and I was there for two weeks—and I’m barely in the f*cking show,” said Johnson.

For context, Johnson played a small role in the Office finale where she played one of the new employees hired by Dwight, and her character basically just walked around doing office things.

Since the show was ending around the time she was shooting it, Johnson talked about how dour everyone’s mood also was. She continues, “They were sad, and there were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years, some people didn’t speak to each other… and no one wanted to talk to me, nobody gave a f*ck.”

Admittedly, this was before Johnson got her big break with the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, and she was only in minor roles in films like 21 Jump Street and The Five-Year Engagement, but seeing she was already in movies, she could have gotten a more memorable role. Even Jim Carrey was able to make a seconds-long cameo work.

For now Johnson has pretty much rebranded her image from her comedy days, and she is causing absolute chaos with this press tour, also leaving her talent agency recently.

What will Madame Web think of next?

Catch Johnson in theaters when Madame Web releases on Valentine’s Day Feb. 14.

Nope Star Keke Palmer Announces Pregnancy on SNL https://www.geekfeed.com/nope-star-keke-palmer-announces-pregnancy-on-snl/ Tue, 06 Dec 2022 11:15:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72326 Rumors have apparently been flying around that Nope star Keke Palmer was pregnant, but as it turns out, they were all true.

Palmer makes the official announcement during her guest stint at Saturday Night Live. Watch this:

I got say, it is bad when people on the internet spread rumors about you; but it is worse when they’re correct. I was trying so hard to keep it on the down low because I had a lot of stuff going on. People kept coming up to me saying, ‘Congratulations!’ and I’m like, ‘Can ya’ll stop? I got a liquor sponsorship on the line. Let the check clear, then we can get to the damn baby shower.’”

Though Palmer has always been busy, starring in films like Lightyear and Nope this year, she had found herself in the middle of the comic book movie discussion with a fancast of her as X-Men’s Rogue went viral. Palmer even fuelled the rumors herself when she dressed up as Rogue for Halloween:

We don’t know what’s next for Palmer, but I’m hoping she manages to get back into superhero shape when they start casting the X-Men movie for Marvel Studios. She really can pull of that Southern accent, and deliver a fresh new take on Rogue that’s specifically different from the pseudo-goth that Anna Paquin delivered in Bryan Singer’s first X-Men movie.

Dan Harmon on Returning Cast Members for Community Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/dan-harmon-on-cast-members-for-community-movie/ Tue, 11 Oct 2022 04:43:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71507 Ever since the show ended back in 2015, fans had been demanding a Community movie, with the mantra #SixSeasonsAndAMovie frequently coming out online. Now Peacock is moving forward with the film, and fans are wondering, “Who are they bringing back?”

While the series is expected to bring back the regulars who stayed until the end like Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, and Danny Pudi, there is a question of whether the series will bring back actors Donald Glover, Yvette-Nicole Brown, and Chevy Chase, who were all central cast members who left before the series ended.

During a panel at the New York Comic-Con (via Variety), Dan Harmon explained that bringing back Donald Glover was a necessity, but the same can’t be said for Chevy Chase. Harmon explains:

“I think that Donald is coming, based on word of mouth, but it’s just the deal isn’t official or wasn’t official. It would be difficult to really commit to doing this thing without Donald… So I believe he is coming back. I think if there’s names missing from a list, it’s because the names that are on the list, their deals are agreed upon enough that it’s OK to say they are on the list, and anybody that’s not on a list, it’s just not the case yet. So there is nothing official about anybody being out”

As for Chase’s inclusion, Harmon said, “I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back… That may be out of my hands. There may something I sign for with an insurance company.”

Though Chase did have his infamous falling out with the show, I am actually kind of hoping that he makes a small appearance just to start mending fences. Pearce Hawthorne could be dead in canon, but he was such a central part of the series that they have to make some kind of mention about him in the film.

No release date has been set for the Community film, but it’s set to release on Peacock sometime in 2024.

Gillian Anderson Open for Community Movie Cameo https://www.geekfeed.com/gillian-anderson-open-for-community-movie-cameo/ Wed, 05 Oct 2022 14:41:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71438 It’s been seven years since Community ended, but the show is finally making good with their movie promise with the film finally moving forward on Peacock. While we expect the original gang to make an appearance in the film, one X-Files star is open for a cameo—after she got mistagged on Twitter.

Gillian Anderson has expressed interest in appearing in the Community movie after Joel McHale mistagged her on Twitter, mistaking her for Gillian Jacobs. Here’s the exchange:

We don’t really know what the story of the movie is going to be about, but knowing Community, the series has always been rife with celebrity cameos like Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Betty White, Jonathan Banks, and Michael K. Williams. It would only make sense that they would bring in some more celebs for the film.

If anything, I’m just hoping that they announce more of the original cast members soon. While it’s great that series regulars Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, and Danny Pudi are coming back; there hasn’t been an official announcement for Donald Glover or Yvette Nicole Brown. Heck, I’d even be open for a small cameo from Chevy Chase. How about some of the other side characters from the show like Garrett, Vicky, Star Burns, or Fat Neil?

No specific release date has been announced for the Community movie, but the film is expected to stream on Peacock sometime in 2023. You can watch out for Anderson in the next season of Sex Education on Netflix.

Community Movie Gets Update from Dan Harmon https://www.geekfeed.com/community-movie-gets-update-from-dan-harmon/ Tue, 23 Aug 2022 12:38:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70692 #SixSeasonsAndAMovie has been the rallying cry of Community fans since the show ended back in 2015, and we’ve been getting vague updates over the past few years. What’s great is, show creator Dan Harmon has finally given us some solid updates on the status of the movie and says it could only be a matter of time when it’s finally made.

In an interview with The Wrap, Harmon has confirmed that a story already exists for the Community film. He explains:

There’s a story—who knows if we’ll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues. And now negotiations happen.”

As far as the release, Harmon didn’t give out anything specific, but he does say that, “…as far as the industry is concerned, this is a matter of when and not if, for sure.”

Though the series never ended up as huge as Rick and Morty, Community remains to be a cult favorite, and was said to have a lot of renewed interest ever since it premiered on Netflix. Though it does start out as a typical sitcom, the series is chockfull of ‘Harmon-isms’ that have become prevalent in his other work from ridiculous parody episodes to clip shows that were the early versions of Rick and Morty’s Interdimensional Cable episodes.

We don’t know what a movie could be about, but I’m hoping we get a lot of elements that made the original series great. Could it be a huge parody film about movies based on TV series? Is there going to be a clip show? Could the Russo Brothers come back to direct?

If you ask me, I’m just hoping they bring back all the original cast members like Donald Glover and Chevy Chase. Fans have been aching for a Troy and Abed reunion and it’s high time we got one.

No release date has been set for the Community movie.

HBO Paid James Gandolfini $3 Million Not to Appear on The Office https://www.geekfeed.com/hbo-paid-james-gandolfini-3-million-not-to-appear-on-the-office/ Sun, 18 Jul 2021 03:27:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60564 James Gandolfini is celebrated for his performance as Tony Soprano in HBO’s The Sopranos, but fans didn’t know that he was almost the boss of a small paper company called Dunder Mifflin.

In a recent episode of the Talking Sopranos podcast (via Insider), Gandolfini’s co-stars have revealed that he was originally set to guest-star in The Office after the departure of Steve Carell. Michael Imperioli said, “You know, they talked about having Gandolfini at one point replace him — did you know that?” Steve Schirripa then added, “I think before James Spader and after [Steve] Carell, they offered [Gandolfini], I want to say, $4 million to play him for the season — and HBO paid him $3 million not to do it.”

We don’t have any official reason as to why HBO didn’t want Gandolfini to take the job, but it’s possible that it could have been because he was working on the HBO series The Night Of which stars Riz Ahmed. Gandolfini had apparently shot the pilot, but after he died, he was replaced by John Turturro.

If anything, it would have been interesting to see what Gandolfini’s character would have been like on The Office. I mean, Spader’s Robert California was definitely an odd character, but he still had his moments. It would have been fascinating if Gandolfini played someone who wasn’t an intimidating mob boss, and The Office already had an episode with a character like that.

While we won’t get to see Gandolfini in any new projects anymore, his son Michael is playing a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark which hits theaters and HBO Max on Oct. 1.
